Heyas

So lately I've been more aware of "Playing the weapon" rather than the kit. Been watching a bunch of plat solo's and just been aware of it in-game.

What kit would you take into a platinum (Or gold) that's powers oriented? Hell, I'll pose it this way instead; what kit would you take into a platinum if you couldn't shoot anything?

***

Part of what prompted this was having a bunch of fun the past couple nights trying some old power-hungry favourites. Played the HMA no Shockwave build with an Arc pistol. Never used the Arc Pistol on that kit, in fact I rarely use it in general. Yeah, it was fun... :) Although I did fall over a lot more. I've been playing kits with a bit more Constitution to em lately and I took a Power Amp IV.

Wound up with a solid biotics crew with my Justicar. I took Pull on her whereas I usually spec out it. Felt like kicking myself after though, cause really I think I used Pull a total of two times. :pinched: I chalk that down to user error though.

With a shoddy connection as of late (Which thank god changes start of next month) and feeling a bit rusty I'm getting frustrated with weapons based kits. Well, that and I love detonating combo's in spawns. I believe the word is satisfying. ;)

If you couldn't shoot at all then the best choices would be fury or asari sentinel and maybe the paladin. Most grenade classes would get by.

I guess the way to look at it is, if you couldn't take the weapon you normally take, would it completely change how you used the character. If yes, then you were likely playing the weapon. Playing the kit doesn't mean you ignore weapons entirely.

Justicar, drell adept, phoenix adept, asari huntress, awakened collector, smashguard would be my top picks.

I wish there were a reasonable reason to ever use actual powers instead of power combos in platinum. As it is, the damage scaling on combos, plus their AOE makes them superior to powers in almost every respect.

There are a few that do work decently(QFE, Huntress, Slayer), but not nearly as many as I'd hope for.

You could just drop your weapon on the ground and not pick it up, but then your character will go into the T-pose with a messed up left hand. LOL!

You can't melee or use powers in this state. I was disappointed.

Or it's for people who don't want to turn every character into a weapon specialist

How about you play the goddamn ******* kit, all aspects included, instead of prioritizing just one thing (aka the weapon?) If I wanted to fire a gun and do absolutely nothing else I'd go play CoD or something. Powers are what set ME3 MP apart, so play it.

That said, I HAVE "soloed" (aka all allies bleeding out within the first minute of the wave) entire games of platinum without my weapon as the Huntress. "Crap, I dropped into this match with no equipment on because god damn you matchmaking I was looking for a Gold Lobby) so it's actually very possible and actually easy once you know what you're doing.

I really should go do my true Platinum Solo one of these days; that's a challenge I have not accomplished yet.

Anyone who can create constant explosions without having to expose themselves much can be good for plat. I particularly like vanilla asari adept and human engineer. Lots of AOE damage on all that armor.

Asari sentinel, huntress and Fury are the safer bet
maybe the warlord or kroguard if your feeling especially nuts!
I guess the juggy might work too

The vanilla human sentinel is great on platinum. Your weapon is basically just used for ammo priming.

I run a no passives build with the csmg. Durable and effective.

VSent. Sometimes I get so engrossed by roasting enemies and chucking cluster grenades everywhere I forget I even have a gun.

So I'm assuming you're not a big fan of the soldier and infiltrator classes. Don't think there's much to them without a weapon.

You spec the build to your play style. Some classes more power focused than others, but you find a happy medium with your weapon as well. Besides particle rifle collector build, I don't see much point in your rant.

I use powers more than most but lately I've been experimenting with more weapon oriented builds

some kits I barely use weapons with at all (the Phoenix guys being good examples)

Geth Flamer Trooper. I suspect that even without shooting the Acolyte, it's one of the easier classes to beat Plat.

I also did some accidental Gold solos with the Asari Huntress by using TC/DC on the tougher enemies. . . I didn't set the lobby to public

The Krogan, Batarian, Juggernaut, Vorcha and Geth Trooper soldiers would all beg to differ. As would the Shadow and the Huntress. Indeed, the Huntress and the Shadow are probably the two most obvious choices for kits that could easily go a whole game without firing a gun (and manage to dominate nonetheless).

Asari adept

Human adept

Human engineer

Huntress

Shadow

Human sentinel

These would do great and are ones I actually like. Fury would be great as well, but I'm not fond of her, like... at all. I want to put Valkyrie in there as well and I guess you could make her work. But giving her a good gun makes her so much better that I don't know why you'd skip on it.

And of course anything with flamer, but if I want to see flaming going on, I have 4chan for it :P
