So the OP is saying that he wants the game to be difficult? I cannot comprehend this idea.

Not even so much that.  If all I'm going to do is run around and hit a button and hack everything to death....I should be watching a movie.  This hobby is called "video gaming"  (if casual mode is played like that then fine I don't care as long as its not like that on other difficulties) Every time I run around a corner "this door is locked, you can hit square to pick the lock".  When I die and there is no penalty no nothing...i just get back up like nothing happened?  If you have a save point there then ok I get it, but if you mess up or die they game shouldn't get easier for you.....I'm capable of watching an attack pattern and seeing ok theres an opening there....I can get some hits in then etc.  I don't need some super move get out of jail free card that almost kills the boss.

thats the short list.  All the bs that started with the last generation of consoles.  You are treated like a kid with no intelligence whatsoever the game wants to play itself for you in a lot of cases....all of that type of stuff is what I hate.  Look at what PS1/2 games were like and then look at the vast majority of current games....thats what i mean.

Do I want a challenge? sure I do, but its a lot deeper than that.  If difficulty merely means I take more damage when hit and do less damage when I attack then no I'm good, I don't care for that difficulty I'll just play on normal.  If its the amount of enemies, the enemy types, the locations/formations etc. etc. etc. ok yeah we can talk.

nightmare on origins was a pain in my ass, especially dealing with the harvester in the dlc (until i played mage and found the corner cheat)...

nightmare on da2 was a pain in my ass especially for my rogue.... mage was probably the easiest though, if all else failed, throw spells and kite like your life depends on it....

inquisition is probably gonna be a lot like origins in the pain in my ass sense....  however, in origins i could get away without a mage in the party as long as i kept a ton of potions.... i dont think we will be able to survive much on nightmare in inquisition unless we bring a more balanced party....

Interesting to see how true this is. Really hope the the difficulty levels haven't been massively escalated versus origins. I found Normal on origins fun, with chance i'd suffer if overly cocky and some individuals very tricky. If there's small increase in normal difficulty that can be a fun challenge but few appreciate exceedingly high early difficulties on a standard mode, remember witcher 2 getting a lot of stick for this.

I always like to challenge myself especially in RPGs. I am looking forward for the ultimate challenge in DA:I.

"all difficulty in Inquisition means tougher than Origins"

This just means difficulty level to difficulty level, though, right? Meaning Normal_DAI is tougher than Normal_DAO and so on. Not Easy_DAI tougher than Nightmare_DAO.....right? :P

I don't play games for their difficulty and especially not for combat. I definitely don't play Bioware games for the fighting. I hope this bit about Easy being harder than before is not true. I found Easy on Origins a reasonable challenge and I'll probably have a lot of trouble with Inquisition if Easy mode turns out to be as hard as, say, Normal was before.

It will be really interesting to see if they can pull this off.

I do love a challenge. I've only played Skyrim on Master+ difficulties. Same with various BioWare games (Nightmare being the exception) and the Witcher 2. I'm a glutton for punishment... so long as preparation or lack thereof is rewarded and punished accordingly.

That said I'll take this news with a grain of salt. Mass Effect 3 Insanity was a walk in the park. Mass Effect 3 game play was promoted by saying "Normal is the new Veteran" which clearly was not the case. I will give the Dragon Age team a little more benefit on the strength that their games have been more difficult than Mass Effect's.

I think a New Game + feature could be the best of both worlds in this regard. The initial run through would vary in challenge depending on difficulty, skill, and play style (preparation). New Game + should be ******* hard no matter what.

I found Normal tricky on DAO, possibly because the console version only had 6 hot-key options (though we did have the radial menu), no tactical camera and no 'move to point' option. Also only 20 tactics slots (I like lots).

Though, so long as it isn't harder than the first several hours of Dragon's Dogma, I should be ok. That didn't have limited healing items (beyond item weight), but it did have limited health regen (which included how much healing spells could restore.

They said ME3 would be harder?

so now I actually have to fight and not let all my companions do the fighting while i stand in a corner and eat popcorn waiting for the next cut-scene like I can in DA2, THIS IS AN OUTRAGE ;) .

I'm not sure I get the point of the OP.  Is it that anyone who doesn't enjoy the same kind of combat challenges OP does is dumbing down the game for the "real" players?  That argument's going to go far.

The issue is that not everyone is of same level of combat proficiency, hence the existence of different gameplay levels in the first place.

OP has nothing to do about people playing the game.  It's about how games these days are made and how gamers are treated as opposed to previous generations.  Many times its borderline insulting for the player just how little they think of you.  Getting a break from this after the PS3 and 360 generation NEEDS to happen.  Lets move out of the this movie crap and return to the "video game" part of video gaming.

I am very thankful bioware acknowledges this.  I hope to see some progress.

I'm surprised you have any ass left, though when dealing with nightmare mode totally understandable. XD

Man, I had a hard enough time with DA Origins on Normal, and now they're telling me Inquisition is going to be harder than Origins no matter WHAT difficult you're playing on?  I remember having to play Origins on Easy half the time.  Especially in the Deep Roads.  God I'm such a terrible gamer.

I don't know I do half suspect that this is the ME 3 diffculty conversation all over again, to an extent.  I do get the feeling that ME 3 was 'supposed' to be harder but they added things like the dodging and a few other gameplay perks.  With Dragon Age I have always only played the game on Console...no tac cam...so with Inquisition I am hoping that even though it is supposed to be 'harder' that the option of the tac cam will really even the scales.  When I figure out how to use it.  Plus, as long as you do not have the hordes of enemies in DA 2, I think I can take that.

Do you use balanced parties?

I always do my first playthrough on nightmare so thing should be very interesting. The main thing will be figuring out the best party setup, I may have to deviate from my usual, tank, rouge, dps mage and support mage party configuration. Honestly if DAI can shake up the formula and keep thing fun then all the power to them, I look forward to trying it out. Of course I'm currently working on finishing The Old Iron Crown on Dark Souls 2 NG+ so I'm always up for a challenge.

Also I will say that ME3 was more difficult than 2 if you start a fresh character, I always imported from 2 so I started at half the level cap which made things very easy for the majority of the game because I was over leveled.

I personally am pumped to hear the game is more difficult than origins. More games need to be more challenging, I am ok with an easy mode or a Cassual mode don't get me wrong there are reasons for those gameplay modes but I have always played on nightmare, and probably always will play on nightmare, and love every soul crushing moment of it.

If the souls games have taught devs anything of late is this hard games don't turn customers away as often as you might think as long as the gameplay is solid and fun and there is a carrot taisty enough to keep people going.

Also I think the difficulty is also a sign of the setting, the game is suppose to feel like everyone and everything is against you and you are the only ones fighting to keep the world afloat more stress and more sorrow from the difficulty really does immerse you better in your characters actual position.
