What type of new aliens would you like to see in ME:Next (using the Star Trek Universe as a template)

Fanservice or no, the asari are a definitely a permanent fixture of the franchise that just can't be dropped.
In Mass Effect 3 I felt the fanservice aspect of the Asari was thrown out the window. The Ardat Yakshi Monastery adds a bit of horror to the Asari as a species. We all know what happens on Thessia. One thing I liked was seeing was the Asari in military/leadership positions and not as strippers. I could just imagine running through Thessia and seeing some random Asari on a stripper pole dancing during a gunfight. Maybe the Asari will start following Aethyta's advice.

I always ignored the 'most maidens are mercenaries or dancers' thing as just a stereotype. Asari civilization would have long before ceased to function if that were actually true. Also how many mercenary bands or nightclubs could there be? Surely not enough to employ billions of people.

Agreed. Love or hate whichever race we wish; getting rid of any of them creates a needless void in the franchise best avoided. It's better to simply write their characters better than to wipe them out entirely.

This is true. The most asari we see throughout the game are in commando gear or regular civilian clothing. Interesting note: the dancers and servers in the Purgatory bar on the Citadel are also human.

I think it would be intresting If we'd met some pre warp civiliation in ME4, some civilisation which still did not construct a space ships , discovered a mass relay and still does not have a developed and advanced technology.
Also we could discover some unknown human colony , where long time ago people were abducted and taken from Earth there to work as slave labor or to "help" to that species in biological reproduction........etc , who watched "37s" episode of ST:Voyager OR "Wild West" epiode of Enterprise he knows what I am talking about ; )
Also I would like to see some similar race to Hirogens (some species of hunters) or Predators or some similar species to Species 8472 from fluid space.

I think they should stay away from the Star Trek universe approach of every little rock having people. Galaxy of ME universe should have aliens but there should not be too many of them, maybe a few new ones, but keep them authentically ME, alien yet not too alien.

That may have have been just a way of saying that it was tradition for Asari to take a lot of me time during a certain period of there life and they just happened to be jobs that where always hiring abroad. On the population thing they live for a thousand years and if an Asari can have multiple children per partner then if anything there needs to be a reason why there population hasn't gotten out of hand.

Plus considering their 1000 year old lifespan an asari could easily have multiple careers, after all can you imagine doing the same job for a hundred years? And asari population is really large, even if a few million at a time are away doing mercenary work or whatever, probably a portion at least that big would stay home and do the jobs that need doing.

It's hard to look at the Star Trek Universe and not think of an alien in Mass Effect that is already similar
Klingons? Say hello to the Krogan
Romulans? Salarian STG
Ferengi? Volus
Cardassians? Remind me a bit of the batarians
Gem Hadar? There is something with potential. A race genetically engineered for combat and leashed by the founders using their dependency on that drug to keep them leashed. In fact the dominion itself was a pretty cool concept to draw inspiration from. That said no shapeshifters of any kind in ME please. Not a big fan of aliens with over the top abilities.
The Borg? The Reapers are a more refined combination of organic and synthetic.
And I think it is pretty obvious the asari are a case of Orion Slave girl meets Vulcan (asari have an ability very similar to mind melding)
Overall I would say ME has already borrowed pretty heavily from Star Trek (as well as other Sci-Fi). Now don't get me wrong that is one thing I love about ME is all the familiar themes found in it but at the same time originality is still a strong point of ME. As much as ME has borrowed inspiration it has managed to forge it's own identity and at this point it needs to stay true to itself and explore fresh original concepts.

One of the ME strengths is that it was made in the style and essence of the old, golden age scifi, just modernized. ME1 is especially the showcase of that, with its many different planets, the missions you get(rescue an alien girl that comes with you, get a talking dinosaur as a bodyguard, get a ship and freedom to do what it takes) even the art strongly evokes that kind of feeling.
So I think they should continue with it, possibly find a species that is very advanced but doesnt leave it home world or home system out of fear of meeting aliens. Plus with batarians decimated it really calls for a new token bad guy species.
also lets not forget about vorcha, while nominally intelligent they are not strictly what you would call a civilisation. They are like talking rats, that can regenerate like worms.
