Wow. Never played unpatched myself since I came along late, but the patch notes didn't suggest anything this drastic. What were the issues?
1.0 was overall much harder than 1.01. I'm surprised that people either don't remember, or never played 1.0?
My three day battle as described was the Redcliff battle. In 1.01 it was quite nice. I even managed to save everyone in the village.
In 1.0 I tried everything to no avail. The way I finally beat it - barely - was desperate indeed. I put all my party members in the fire.

Mainly because DA is known for having pretty crappy, slow paced combat. Dark/Demon Souls only works thanks to the gorgeous and realistic combat system.

I'm a big fan of the tactical pause option in all the DA games. It does allow you to play on harder difficulty settings without dying too much and I have spent a long time pouring over companions tactics in order to make sure I don't have to babysit them all the time. But I understand that not everyone is interested in this style of play.
I recently managed to defeat the dragon at the bone pit in normal mode. Took a while and I did die three times before I managed to get to that point. Took a long time because I was constantly thinking 'where to move the players to now' but ultimately it was extremely satisifying to do it finally without having to drop the difficulty or rage quit.
I usually play on normal to start until I get to know where the harder fights are, where I may have to put in effort with tactics or to drop the difficulty setting (where there is no guarantee of beating the fight either.)
Having said all that - I am fully supportive of a super easy narrative mode, and hoping that those that want something like this will be satisfied with the difficulty settings with DA:I. I have certainly been known to drop the difficulty after multiple playthroughs or hard boss fights because I just wanted to run a character through (mainly only with ME not with DA as I have only a few characters for DA whereas I have many Shepards.) In addition I have a degenerative illness which means I hope in future games something akin to a super easy narrative mode might be available should I possibly need it.

If they can take the time to make nightmare a nightmare for ppl who love the challenge they can make the time to have narrative be narrative for the ppl who love the story.

TL:DR,
Based on some gameplay videos it looks like enemies stay rather stationary. Could be because of console commands or just an easy difficulty or the game is just easy. IDK.

I always prefer more options. Sometimes I want a challenge. Sometimes I just want to focus on the story. Sometimes I want full-blown story-gameplay integration; that is, I want a powerful enemy in the story to be a difficult enemy in the gameplay. It all depends on my mood.

What I'm baffled is the number of HARDCORE players disgusted by those who want the reassurance that Easy mode will actually be easy. Ok, we get it; you're uber-gamers who got through DA:O in Nightmare with the pinky finger of your left hand while picking your nose with the other. I happened to struggle through Easy for much of the game.
What worries me is the part in the interview where the dev says all difficulty levels in Inquisition is harder than in Origins. I don't care if Nightmare for DA:I is harder than DA:O; that's probably great news for you guys. I'm happy for you. But I'm never going to play Nightmare. I only care if Easy is going to be harder, because it really doesn't need to be.
I'm not so worried that I'm fretting over it all the time, but it's definitely a concern since I'm looking forward to this game. I don't want to give up on it after a few hours of frustration like I did with Origins the first time I tried it. This is not entitlement or whining.
Can you be so kind and back up your statement with the numbers and actual quotes? You're clearly "baffled" and frustrated, so provide "the number" of people "disgusted by those who want the reassurance that Easy mode will actually be easy."
What I really see how people only want challenge on the hard and nightmare difficulties. Nobody wants an easy difficulty to be harder, unless somebody is trolling. People who play on hard & nightmare usually don't give a damn about easy difficulties.

I think he/she might be referring to a couple of comments made on the other thread (about casual/easy difficulty) where posters expressed extreme surprise and frustration that people aren't interested in playing above easy or that they find easy challenging in itself.
Now I didn't read every post on that thread nor do I remember many people expressing such a sentiment but there were a couple if you wish to re-read the thread (I don't, so sorry no quotes). For the most part, people were just expressing why they like easy and why they want easy to remain easy. But maybe it descended into drama in later pages, I don't know about that.

I don't recall anyone saying people are disgusting for wanting to play on easy. What I do recall are a number of people saying 'if you're playing on easy, you're playing it wrong.' Or 'you're missing out by not wanting a challenge' or 'get better at it' or even 'how can you possibly enjoy game without challenge?' Or something along those lines.I'm still hoping that I gonna see real quotes were some posters pointed fingers and said: " "Look, they are disgusting cause they want to play on easy difficulty".
The answer to these is straightforward, 'my game, my preferences'. In addition if you're physically limited, or disabled 'getting good' is not really a helpful suggestion.
I wasn't sure if it was this thread or a different one where someone actually wished they could go round to people's houses and 'show' them how to play the game right.

Hi folks!
I've decided to throw my two-cents in as well, because... hey, its a forum, its what we do here^^
For me personally, I like the easy mode for a first playthrough, because (like many others) I'm mainly psyched about the story. I also always play a warrior first, basically because in later levels those warriors are powerhouses and I like that. However, once that it done, it can get boring on the easy mode, especially of you played through the game several times already. Now, I'm not saying that's the case for everyone out there and thats COMPLETELY FINE. It's just a personal opinion.
Now, while I myself never even touched the Nightmare difficulty (I had enough trouble surviving DA:O on 'hard') I do like the challenge a higher difficulty provides. Especially now that the tactical aspect is pushed forward. Now, tactics on a console can be a bit clunky and I can't tell you how often Varric decided to tank a whole group of enemies in DA2 before I could stop him *grr* but overall, I like to plan through a battle. For me, it ceases to be challenging when I no longer have to pay attention, but just cleave through the enemy... Which is also why I usually switch to the weaker classes for later playthroughs. Sure, mages have those awesome spells (I'm particularly fond of Force Magic) but they are in really deep **** once the enemies circle them in.
Basically, I'd have to say I like the idea of having the difficulty a bit more challenging than in DA2, since as a warrior it only produced a mildly interested yawn later on^^ I also don't think that skill in gaming factors into that decision, I'm kind of a klutz when it comes to personal skill (you should have seen me play shooters^^) it's more likely to provide an extra challenge to those that want it. And if you have to start planning ahead in easy mode as well instead of just plowing through the enemy, I find myself liking that.
Again, this is a personal opinion and I mean no offense to anyone just wanting to play the game. That's what I want too, I just enjoy a challenge now and then. I will be playing the game on easy for a first playthrough as well, I remind you. But no one is forcing people to play on Nightmare, even if the difficulty might be upped a bit.
I don't know if I was that coherent either, since its still morning in Germany and I'm nursing my first coffee. ![]()
Sincerely, CarrionFowl

I like to play in easy, because its what i enjoy. I don't want to fail for the umpteenth time, rage quit and never pick a game up again. Yes i suppose higher difficulties offer satisfaction for people, but if you keep failing i think it detracts from the story. I mean how could Shepard possibly be awesome if he keeps dying every 5 minutes?
Aside from that, EVEN IF easy is harder, that may promote exploration, to find all those lovely things out in the wilderness to upgrade you and the inquisition. Not that i'm assuming DA players wouldn't do that anyway, or those who play in easy wouldn't (i'd do it anyway), but for those new to the franchise or for those who literally just play through the storyline and don't care for sidequests and stuff, it may help showcase the beauty that is DAI

I just read that interview where Cameron Lee said DAI will be tougher than DAO, for each difficulty setting. I am concerned. I found DAO on normal rather hard the first time through, I still find it hard as a warrior for the first 15 levels or so and while I don't expect I'll be exactly unable to play DAI, I play mainly for the story and "tougher than DAO" sounds very much like "no fun" to me if DAO's normal is DAI's easy.
So, Bioware, what are you going to do for the significant subset of your players who play mainly for the story? Will there be an additional extra-easy mode?
Same here, as a warrior early in the game withou a healer in the party, origins was brutal!

It's a perfectly legitimate opinion.

They're irrelevant opinions. Many of those people love the challenge of the higher level difficulties, and that's fine for them. But they don't get to dictate to other people how they should play and enjoy the game.

I’m not going to be antagonistic about this, as I know most people in this thread have said things with best intentions but if you want quotes here are some.
get better at the game. Each loss should make you more aware and ultimately more effective. I understand some gamers just aren't up to par, but don't set a limitation on yourself. Don't think "this is too hard for me I can't do it". Just do it. If you fail, think about why, and try to improve based on your speculations.
I say instead of wanting an easier game, you should take up the challenge and strive to be better.
They're already giving plenty of options to cater to gamers of multiple styles; 4 difficulty settings and the option to toggle friendly fire. With that implemented, if you still demand an easier game, you're just going to have to step up your tactics.
Git gud.
Right, there's nothing wrong with that. But when someone finds easy mode to still be too difficult, instead of demanding an easier experience maybe they should try to improve the quality of tactics and gameplay.
In a nutshell: GET BETTER!
It's a perfectly legitimate opinion.
Never said it wasn’t.
It's a perfectly legitimate opinion. People have opinions sometimes, it's normal.
Again, never said it wasn’t. You’re mistaking my post for someone who said otherwise.
Who suggested to "get better at it" to "disabled" or "physically limited" people in this thread?
Nobody said it directly to anyone but considering those comments are aimed at everyone, myself included (I’d put myself on the periphery of that), perhaps some consideration for unstated disabilities is warranted? I haven’t seen many of the ‘get better’ commentators qualify their statements with ‘except those with physical limitations.’
I was a participant in this thread talking about a ‘super easy narrative difficulty’ becoming available (also started by Ieldra). A number of people were insisting that asking for something like this was going to take away from other difficulty settings, like somehow someone playing on an easier setting in their game was going to effect them in some way and to just stop asking and get better or go play another game. I really don’t want to hash over the same thing in this thread.

Bringing physical limitations in a game that you don't have to do more than 10 actions per minute is just plain old guild tripping. If you can click a mouse button to press the dialogue option, you can beat the game at the hardest possible difficulty. So get over it.
None is asking for the core gameplay to change. As long as there is pause, anyone can play it. I don't read "get better" at most of the quotes you presented. I read "give the minimum consideration". This is different. None cares if Bioware includes a godmode for those that like it, as long as the mechanics of the game aren't twisted to accommodate this.

Guilt tripping.... Uh huh. I'm not 'guilt tripping' anyone, why so antagonistic? If you or others read it my way that wasn't my intention. If anyone had difficulty on easy the first thing I would would recommend is to try the tactics settings as it underpins a lot of the gameplay. However that's not that easy to get into and for people wanting the game for story or they might still be interested in combat just a very simplified version, tactics might not be appealing.
I was going to support your little rant, especially the point you made how it may not always easy for developers to accommodate both ends of the spectrum. And I wouldn't be supportive of any changes that completely altered what is the essence of Dragon Age games. But Bioware is unlikely to make changes that would do that.
So in essence I've got nothing to 'get over' dude. I simply provided the quotes where they actually said 'get better'. You know, the ones you asked for from that other poster. But whatever, you want to make drama llama posturing about it to make some sort of point go right ahead.

Anybody notice that the people who want the game hard are so insulted that people want to play on easy / narrative mode. Yet the people who play on the "casual" modes don't care if others want to play on broken-leg heroic hardcore difficulty.
I think the crux of the matter is that it shouldn't matter what difficulty other people play at, as long as they enjoy themselves. Bioware should have settings that cater for the person who wants a story and the person who wants to be punished.

When difficultly is balanced properly things should go like this: Easy should be like leisurely walk through a national park, you see the sights and enjoy the relaxation, Normal should be like playing checkers with a child and you just might loose if you aren't playing attention, Hard should be like the ending of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid where you stand no chance of survival and can't win.

In DAO, +awak and in DA II, the most difficult setting was ok. When you use the pause in order to think on what you will have to do, you manage to win in most cases...( I remember the dragon sire in the end of DA II in difficult or, in the same stuff, Kai Leng in mass effect 3. I never was able to win in difficult mode against the latter. The first one, I managed but with a lot of difficulties)
