I have a pet theory that Haestrom's star just swallowed a large eezo asteroid at some point in the past, and everyone was getting worried over nothing. Of course, that has the unfortunate side effect of Tali's team getting killed over something that really wasn't that important...
Interesting, but wouldn't it have to be a pretty damn big asteroid?
If I recall correctly, during the part of the mission where you fight geth primes supported by combat drones, if Legion is present, it'll identify them as heretic drones. Chris has made small mistakes like that before ( Ilos instead of Virmire ) and heretics having that large of a presence in geth space is a bit of a stretch.
The surface of Haestrom was unoccupied actually. Tali's unit runs into a problem with Geth that are there on their own mission, rather than with local residents. The only Geth habitation of the system was in space stations. As such it is entirely possible (I'd argue probable) that the Geth encountered during the Haestrom mission, are a Heretic away team.

And a damn good thing. The 'Yo Dawg' about the Dark Energy plot would bury the synthetic/organic conflict one .
