Is anyone else a lil' concerned about the writing quality we're seeing? To me, a fair few of the descriptions for the talents/spells we've seen, and most of the one-shot companion quotes have seemed either very cheesy, or simple (ie: treating us like we're stupid).

I'm certain that the actual story and dialogue writing itself is going to be great, but I can't help but feel a little uneasy with things like Dorian's super terrible sassy quote, the "nearby enemies are nearby" wording for Lightning Bolt or the bad sounding word placement for Guardian Spirit.

They are companion quotes for a reason instead of blurbs from university essays. A good amount of people don't speak formally in every day life. Check out how people speak in all walks of life and you will notice an awful lot of grammatical errors. And yes, there are enough people who are cheesy especially if your cherry pick it out of the many things someone has said in his or her life.

The other things you mentioned are clearly errors and also not likely to have been written by English majors or anyone with a writing degree. I believe small grammatical errors are fine and the only thing i dislike are spelling errors which shouldn't happen with the readily available spelling checkers.

Agreed. Bioware really needs to up their game in this regard.

In dialogue, sure, if it's part of the character's make-up to speak incorrectly -- but in descriptions, NOOOO! That is what copy editors are for!

The editing process is still happening, as evidenced by the DAI editor who keeps telling off the writers for their atrocious apostrophe abuse on Twitter.

Oh I'm sure; I'm definitely not criticizing the DAI team -- yet!

If you've ever come home from a work heavy day or an intense mid-term, any attempt to type is going to like this if you attempt it. ;)

They're probably allocating all their brain power towards the game, I'm sure we can excuse a few brain farts online when they have a little down time. The writing quality will be superb.

This scares me. Should these two things, brain power and story, be working together in an RPG?

LOLz.... automated spell checkers. ROFLMAO LOLz.

Can I just use this opportunity to highlight the freakin' strange word choice in some of the spell descriptions?

"blurring ahead a short distance" ???

"a powerful strike that crumples foes"

Do they have a foreign intern writing these blurbs or something? I can deal with the character showcases sounding completely stupid (all it does it give me a pretty low first impression of that character's intelligence) but these are some of the most bizarre word choices I can think of when they could just as easily have chosen a different word.

Thinking about it, it is kind of a weird complaint but that only makes it that much more frustrating.

No need to be snide.

I was thinking something along the lines of "knocks down" instead of "crumple" and "moves" instead of "blurs."

I can't recall, a single time in my life, that I have seen anyone blurring somewhere, and crumple just sound really colloquial. I suppose no one would have any problem with the description if it said "a powerful strike that scrunches foes" or "a powerful strike that done knock a ****** out."
