For some reason I always make my charcters POC. They just look better to me that way
This time in DA:I I'm thinking of making my female Dalish look a lot more like the one shown on twitter, but It may change once I have the CC, of course.
How do you determine the Aesthetics of your characters?

Probably 5.
I generally just take what I know of the character's background and their face just reveals itself to me as I play around with the CC. It's not really a conscious choice on my part as I never set out trying to create any look in particular, I just go along with what feels right for that character.
Or to quote the Twelfth Doctor, "I never know where the faces come from, they just pop up?"

I'm admittedly kinda shallow and just try to make all my characters, male and female, as hawt as physically possible.
Pretty much this although they wind up looking more 'decent' or 'mildly attractive'. I like them to look realistic yet good looking in their own way.
So a mix of 1 (I try and stay true to the characters culture/race in terms of appearance), 4 and 5

Sometimes I get an idea for the kind of character I want to play and try to make aesthetic choices that speak to that. Other times I'll start with a couple of basic items like a specific hair/eye colour combination I want and go from there. Mostly though I wing it and end up making the same character 40 times just with a different dye job because I only like 1 of the 12 hairstyles.

I always start with the personality and how this person is, then go from there. Is this guy/girl suave and charismatic? Then I want to make them look good looking and approachable. Am I making a brawler who loves to get into fights? I make him look battered ect.
I also have a thing for redheads so my first female character is normally a redhead(though this will change with my qunari)

I wonder if Qunari can even be redheads...

I don't mess with face shape very much ever since the first Mass Effect when I had trouble telling just how sharp my cheek bones looked until I'd already confirmed.
Basically, I try to make my characters as bangable as possible.

I like to mix it up.
For some I like to give them a face that looks exactly the opposite of the personality I give them, except for some subtle details that reveal their true character. For example, my first two Quizzies will be a kind and noble human and a cynical and perceptive dwarf. The human will be a dark skinned blond with a fox-like face, bright green eyes, and a few rogue-ish scars, but he will have a serious set to his mouth and a softness around the eyes. My dwarf will have big, innocent blue eyes, bright red curls, girlish freckles, and a few large scars covering parts of her face. There are different layers of subtlety, okay?
For others I like to do concepts. I will have a mage that embraces her role as the Herald of Andraste and uses her as inspiration. She'll look as close to Andraste, or descriptions of her, as possible.
For the remainder I like to make them look exactly how their personalities are. My stoic and refined qunari lady romancing Josephine shall have her design based completely on the concept of clean lines, with high cheekbones, simple hair, and neat little horns. Her clothes will be similarly streamlined. She will have no scars or tattoos or noticeable make-up.
Of course, I always wind up making one or two mistakes that I don't realize I've made until I'm out of the CC, but I enjoy those. They make my characters feel more organic.

I usually go for a specific style when I play games, mostly revolving around the concept of "Slim and Practical" looking clothing, or "Looks like armor" type guidlines where I wear something that looks like a good, smooth with edges, piece of armor. EX: DA2 templar armor looked the best imo out of every other armor in the game.
Sometimes I'll play it differently, like if I want to make a more sneaky or less in your face character I try to make them dress in comfortable looking coats with pants. Or whatever close approximation I can get. Or if I want a hulking brute I'll go for bulky and heavy looking armors.
I never go exposed skin though, cause I find it impractical and distracting.

I wonder if their are any Qunari that actually look like this early concept art, almost like a special breed of berserker qunari
Spoiler
I know that Qunari are tall, but geez... that guy is twice the size of a human, both in height and width... I sure hope nobody looks like that on Par Vollen! If so, Thedas is pretty much screwed when they invade.

I have characters in mind, and will often draw them to get the facial anatomy correct before getting into CC.
It helps when the characters are OCs that you've had for a while, haha.

I really like using the concept art or the game's trailers to create different characters. I feel that the art inspires their personalities as well, and adds different twists for multiple playthroughs.
Usually when left to my own devices to create a character, they end up being versions of myself, which I inevitably find very boring.
I'm just not feeling it for the Inquisitor.

I normally wing it. Not that it helps, my Dragon Age characters more often than not end up looking like some bizarre, shambling monstrosity that could be mistaken for a darkspawn.
I only ever created one character based on me and that was Pale-slouchy McTiny in Dragon's Dogma, it just reminded me of why I hate mirrors.

If the cc allows, I can just put myself in the game.
I have the same hairstyle as Purefoy in Solomon Kane.
My favorite concept for fantasy settings is the Witch Hunter, which is based on Solomon Kane.
And I usually add heavy facial hair, scarring and tattoos/shade so I can be lazy with the actual geometry of the face.
I hit a pretty big combo

A bit shallow, but I need to find her pretty. And I don't have any kind of base for their look, it just...comes. I have trouble deciding hairstyle. Origins didn't have anything nice and DA2 had too many good things. It was very frustrating!
Also, hair color. I LOVE red hair, but I can't make everyone redhead, it would be ridiculous. So Warden was blonde (my first blonde character ever), Hawke had red hair and as for the Inquisitor... I may actually use another person as a basis: something between Gemma Arterton in "Hansel and Gretel" and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Dark hair included.

This explains my experience pretty much exactly.
I just go in and bumble around until things start looking "right". I then make adjustments as I find necessary.

Usually, I wing it. I start messing around with sliders and features with a loose idea in my head until things start to click then I start messing around with the things I like until I get something that I think looks good. Then I start the game, and sometimes, after about 15 or 20 minutes, I decide I can't stand it or lose interest in it ... and I wind up back at square one all over again.

Usually I randomize until I find something that seems OK, then tweak a bit until it looks decent. If I can't randomize, I choose a default and tweak from there. I don't usually have a clear picture in mind, however, and if I spend too much time in most of the more powerful character creators, my poo characters inevitably get uglier and uglier, so I try to stop as quickly as I can. Heh.
