Same here! I pay an lot of attention to genetics when it comes to this kind of stuff. Like, it only made sense to play an caucasian human noble considering your parents appearance, while it made sense to play an dark skinned city elf considering your mother appearance. I wonder if they will show us family members depending on our origins, and I wonder if their skin thone and other features will match our Inquisitor appearance.

I wish I didn't have to do this actually (I liked how Hawke's family appearance adjusted), but I'm kind of OCD about little things like this.

I have a general idea going in and tailor according to the personality. For example if I am going to play a ruthless and direct character I give them a more severe look. Pious and diplomatic would have softer features.

I usually wing it with the intent of making all my characters look different from each other. So that there is variety and I can tell my Hawkes apart. I've shied away from the white or grey hair options. Some times I'd like to play as a more experienced/mature character like Duncan or Blackwall. It works...until you run into your brothers Trian and Bhelen, who both look younger than you.

Usually I have an image in my head of how I want them to look, completely fail to make it work with the CC and then just wing it.

I have an idea of what I want for my first (most meaningful) inquisitor. I always try to make someone who I'd want to wake up in bed next to after a fun night at the bar and not regret it all. It helps me with forming that important emotional connection. While the romance with the companions adds so much to the game, I believe the most important romance is the one between me and my inquisitor.

I ran into some transparent ones in the first dungeon in the Morrowind Main Quest.

I try to pick something/someone I wouldn't mind looking at for awhile, and then try to mix it up between characters so that I'm not looking at the same archetype between games. Black man, hispanic woman, Russian, Asian, etc.

I'm not a fan of wacky/absurd hairstyles and such, so it's usually pretty conservative.

There are (or were more actually) a race called dwarf in the the Elder scrolls series. Though the Dwemer were actually a type of elf and of normal height.

On topic, my answer is 4 - I wing it. I've never tried to make a character look like myself, the closest I come is giving them blonde hair but that's it. Until I joined this forum I didn't even realise it was something some people liked to do. I don't like basing my characters of actors or characters from another media either because I feel like the character isn't really mine if I do that. I wouldn't be able to play without thinking of that character/actress.

I'm shallow enough that I try to create characters that I think look good but I never have particular features clear in mind. I do tend to like pale eyes (blue, grey and greens typically) and natural colours (for hair, I would never in a million years pick purple or green hair).

I've never tried to make myself because quite frankly, i just dont think my "look" fits the medieval fantasy setting that Thedas has set

I usually do a mixture of

1.) Let the characters race/culture/class guide you

and

4.) Just wing it once you get a hold of the game

I try to make the characters believable for their backgrounds and usually have a vague idea of the kind of looks that I want for a character, but allow myself to wing the specifics as I play around in the CC.

If the character has family members who are beign shown then I will always atleast get the same hair colour as them.

I will never play a black haired character if their parents and brothers/sisters have blonde hair.

Ooh, this is a good point.  It's why Lord Aeducan is always blond and Hawke is always a brunette with black hair.

Same for me, that also applied to the Hawke family too

I hardly customized Hawke because the others custom presets were terrible

Exactly. It feels so weird to have a blonde haired Hawke when Carver and Bethany have black hair.

Hence why my Cousland Warden has always dark brown hair (Fergus) and Hawke always black.

I'm thinking of making my inquisitor blonde for the sake of variatie, but I'm not sure yet :)

Yeah, I hear ya.  Of course, it's not uncommon for siblings to have different hair colors, but I think it adds something for me personally when the character's resemble their relatives.  In fact, my most recent playthrough, I tried to make Hawke look like a slightly older version of Carver so that it would be believable that they are siblings.

I usually do the same. I have an idea for my first two inquistors will be like with the most detail being on my human female rogue Navilia Trevelyan. Since i have her personality and backgrond figured out for the most part, the question is just trying to find a look that might match it.

This is why for Dragon age 2 I am a huge fan of the Hawke families mod. It allowed me to have a redhead hawke, and a redhead bethany or light brown, or even blonde; and alternative hair styles for black haired bethany. It made me like chosing an alternative hair color, ie blonde or redhead for my hawke.

This does make me wonder, would we be seeing any of our relatives as our inquistor?
