Is Golems of Amgarrak worth playing for story reasons?

I just finished my first Origins and Awakening playthrough. I imported my Awakening save into Golems. I haven't got far - the Blue Fade room - but it's already boring me. If I'm reading the map right, this quest will involve a lot of backtracking and switch-flipping, which is giving me flashbacks to the Fade portion of the Circle Tower. Plus, I've already heard about how the Harvester is a hellishly difficult fight and as someone who doesn't enjoy combat all that much, I'm not looking forward to it.

So I'm asking if there is any significant story decision or lore in the DLC that will make it worth it, when I import this save into Witch Hunt. Or should I just take my Awakening Warden straight into Witch Hunt and then to DAII? Does anything I do in Golems impact later story at all?

Thanks.

Do you get one more encounter in DAII if you import golems, but honestly, if you are not interested in it don't waste your time playing it.

There's no difference if you play it or not. Since your as far as you are, why not finish it? Once done, you can say you played it and have that same Warden continue in the Witch hunt dlc.

There's a story there, but it doesn't have any important plot flags. The DLC is purely for challenge.

Personally, if you do not enjoy getting to the final Boss fight, then skip it; much prefer the set-up vs kiting the Abomination.

That said, I do enjoy the wealth gained by selling the weapon gained from the DLC, as well as the trip to acquiring it.

I thought it was enjoyable and rather creepy.

No its a crappy waste of time dlc that doesn't contribute to the story at all. Go in, save some random guy's brother, kill bad monster, the end. Also unless your a mage, have fun fighting the Reaper without any healing spells.

You've got the measure of it already. It's a dungeon crawl for a beefed-up warden. That's it. No plot decisions at all. There's a teeny bit of lore, but nothing you couldn't get in 30 seconds of reading from the wiki. I think it's a good dungeon crawl, but if you don't enjoy the combat then don't bother with it - jump straight to Witch Hunt.

I thought you could upgrade the Golem to have them?

It doesn't have any effect on DA2, but I'd recommend at least doing GoA once so that you can get all of the unlockables for use in future DAO/DAA runs. Some of the best unlockables come from GoA (necklace, belt, weapon of extreme value).

As for the DLC itself, I actually played it last week (and finally killed the Harvester on Hard mode for the achievement and the unlockable. 100% completion is a beautiful thing). I used a S&S Reaver/Berserker/Spirit Warrior and actually had a fun time with the DLC. It's also not very long; I finished it in under three hours, but I was really taking my time. I imagine if I had rushed, I probably could have finished it in around two hours or less. Also, the Wiki has a great walkthrough if you get stuck with the levers.

Make sure that you UPGRADE your golem. A fully upgraded golem has lightning spells, Cleansing Aura, Flaming Weapons, Group Heal, and Revival. He's basically your mage. Also, I would suggest respeccing Jerrik into an archer if you are a melee fighter; otherwise, leave him as a dual-weapon fighter.

I won't lie: The Harvester is a royal pain. He's not that difficult on casual/easy, but if you're going for the Grim Reaper achievement where you have to defeat him on Hard/Nightmare, he's a beast. And he's just icky. But I will admit that I haven't felt so satisfied after a boss fight (killing him on Hard) than the first time I killed the Archdemon without using the ballistae. I squealed like a little girl when that ugly bugger went down and my trophy popped. My cats thought I was nuts. :D

Thanks for the input, everyone. If there no plot flag to carry forward, I'll just move on to Witch Hunt for now. I'll probably come back to it later, 'cause I'm a completionist at heart.

I've been worried about the Harvester fight, because my Warden's a Rogue and there's no Mage in the party. It doesn't sound like the Golem gets crowd control spells, so it will probably be a tedious battle of attrition. Not looking forward to that at the moment. Maybe later.

On that note, any advice for the fight as a Rogue Warden? Ranger and Duelist specialization, with dual-wielding.

The best advice I can give is to bring some respec tomes and decent weapons because your companions in Golems are trash! At the very least, respec the warrior as an archer (give him Spirit Warrior, Accuracy and a shedload of Dex).

Also, have a companion - probably the archer and maybe a bodyguard - permanently situated by the 'switch' (this will make sense when you're there), so they can throw the switch when needed.

Other than that, try to stay behind the Harvester as much as possible. He does kinda telegraph his attacks, so it's not too hard to run around behind him whenever you see him gearing up for a swipe. Also, he's slow, so kiting is perfectly feasible. And remember to bring a truckload of potions since the golem's healing is pretty lackluster at best.

With a bit of patience and a pinch of luck, you shouldn't have too much trouble.
