How did your battle against the Arch Demon go? Here's how mine went:

First off I switched the game to hard mode because I didn't want a pansy final boss like many other games give me. My party consisted of: My dwarf sword and shield warden, Logain, Shale, and Leliana. For my allied forced I had a remaining: 30 Redcliffe soldiers, 38 Dalish Elves, 50 Dwarves, and 12 Mages. I decided to roll with the dwarves because they were at full strength, I figured their heavy armor would let them take a beating from the Arch Demon, and I was worried the Arch Demon's minions might murder unprotected archers while my focus was on him.

Me, Logain, Shale, and my Dwarven allies all charged the Arch demon with a mighty battle cry! These soon turned to cries of frustration however. The Arch Demon fought dirty, using his wings and claws to constantly knock me and my forces down, and hardly gave us a chance to strike. I soon left Logain and Shale to hold his attention while I fired Ballista bolts at him, alternating with Leliana on occasion. When the Arch Demon needed a breather he decided to fly away and let us deal with his minions. His minions were dispatched with ease but I had lost a lot of Dwarves by this point and desperately wanted some bowman! "Retreat you dusters! The Arch Demon is too strong for your unit to fight at close range! I need some bowman!" But my Dwarven allies all stubbornly refused my orders because the game wouldn't let me switch out my forces.

With nearby Ballistas jammed and the Arch Demon's health nearly drained I soon finished the mighty dragon at close range. Only 14 Dwarves remained from the 50 I started the battle with. 36 Dwarves fell taking down the Arch Demon. I was pissed that I lost so many of my kinsman in the battle. If I had just used the Elves like my gut told me I probably would have only had half as many casualties.

This battle taught me a painful lesson. Never attack a Dragon with common ground infantry no matter how many you have or how good their armor is. Always use the bowman.

I've played this game so many times I can't remember how all my fights with the Archdemon went. I do remember that in all of them, the allied forces you summon for that fight aren't effect as anything other that cannon fodder for your party.

I've also played this game so many times that I can't remember how all of my AD fights went. I do remember my most memorable one though. It was my first runthrough on the PC (I used to only play PS3), and I had made a beautiful dual-wield rogue Queen Cousland named Raven (see avatar). I usually always killed Archie via the ballistae on the PS3, which wasn't actually that satisfying or enjoyable.

Raven decided to hang the ballistae and only attacked him via melee. She called in the Elves to handle the minions and shoot Archie whenever he flew out of range, but as long as Archie was in range, Raven concentrated solely on him. When Raven managed to get the elaborate dragon deathblow kill move on Archie, it was glorious. I think I took 20 screenshots. It was epic. :)

I really like using dwarves in that battle.  They are more durable than archers.

My Warden got the kill animation for the Arch Demon, High Dragon, and the Brood Mother but I've never liked any of my kill animations. A man wearing heavy plate armor cannot jump like that!

I should have switched the difficulty to Normal or even Hard for this fight (yes, I played at Easy; don't mock me, I'm a newbie). I didn't even die once! Alistair ran interference, keeping the Archdemon's attention. Morrigan did crowd control. My Rogue Warden ran around firing ballistas. Wynne kept up healing. I called on the Dalish archers first and they kept up a steady stream of attack on the Archdemon even when he was on those unreachable platforms, which was great.

This strategy worked throughout the fight and when I saw that the Archdemon's health was failing, my Warden ran in and took the glory of the final blow for herself.

Batman says hello.

I to don't remember much from this final battle and I have done it countless times.  I did die once after getting hit with a curse of morality which I found somewhat ironic.

I'm not so sure. Plate armor was designed not to sacrifice mobility all that much, by spreading the weight of the steel. Sometimes knights would jump in the air or do cartwheels right before a tournament melee just to show off that they could move as well despite their armor as they could without it.

Ok let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he still has a high vertical jump while wearing his plate armor. He's also doing this while holding a heavy metal sword and shield. I'm not buying it.

Presumably the knights at tournaments were wearing similar gear.

"Presumably the knights at tournaments were wearing similar gear."

Pffft tourney knights weren't wearing King Cailan's glorious tanking armor.

I pick the mages because they can throw damage and blanket damage the attacking darkspawn. Shale has ice damage and fire protection. I have Alistair and (if playing without cheats) take Wynne for her spirit healer. When Archie heads for that platform thing then it's ballista all the way. If I am cheating (yeah, yeah) then I can take anyone else but Wynne. :P

I do like the idea that a Rogue may be able to repair a ballista based on Skill. This gave me a bit more pride in my class choice at the time.

My Archdemon group was Alistair, Leliana, Morrigan, and my F!Cousland 2 handed warrior. Alistair took much of the beating the entire time, while Leliana, Morrigan and Cousland dealt out the damage. Leliana went to the ballistae to shoot it a few times, then my group picked it back up.

F!Cousland got the 2 Handed killing blow, which is simply full of win. At the end of the animation, as Starfang is about to fall like a hammer on the anvil, I always say "GET REK'T!"

I remember, it was my warrior warden, Loghain, Leliana and Morrigan. I used the Dalish as support. The fight wasn't too hard thanks to health potion spam and Morrigan's healing. Then the Archdemon flew to an corner and I proceeded to spam the ballista against the dragon. Then all of a sudden it jammed. I was like "goddamn it, it's aways something!" Then I remember Leliana was an rogue, and I thought, if she can disarm traps, maybe she can fix the damn thing, and voila! The ballista was back in action. I thought that particular moment was pretty cool. Then when the Archdemon went down Loghain performed the finishing move (why it's aways him? Totally killed the vibe of the scene for me). And anyway, that was it.

My first one, I didn't realize that I was going to go back to camp afterwards, so I began stripping my party in preparation for Awakening. I didn't have time to finish up, or even get most of the party; in fact I think Sten was the only one I got. But this was still plenty hilarious, especially since Sten was the one who took its last few hitpoints and got the mini-cutscene where he stabs the Archdemon in the head. Except that what he really did, thanks to my stripping him, was punch a hole in its head. While wearing a pure-white banana-hammock. I think that's actually slightly funnier than it would have been if I'd had the nude mod installed.

Well, as far as I understand the ones doing actual melee were wearing tanking armor. And it would almost certainly have been as fancy as they could afford.

My Mage Warden was an arcane warrior so she just stood dead center, looking the Archdemon straight in the face as they blasted each other. Didn't call any allies to help, all companions got KO'd, she won solo with nary a scratch

My Dalish Warden sicced golems on it and pelted it with Scattershot and Arrow of Slaying, with Morrigan healing and the other 2 thinning the mooks

My Queen Cousland was in his face with her BFS with fire support from mage and Leliana using Marjoleine's bow, with her King tanking the Archdemon right there with her and Morrigan healing and flinging spells

Ran past to the NE Ballista with my chums.

Just kept be-doinking the big nasty until flutter time. Summoned my Dalish brethren . And while Lolly kept watch on Morrigan, cut down the Darkspawn. Until those multiple pings found their mark.

How dya like dem apples?

Alistair is king, Morries buggered off. Sombra and Lolly go travelling.

Sweet.

Just missing that slide of them both hand in hand on the road walking into the sunset...

(Closes eyes) Oh, there you are.
