OK, joking aside, I did take him out for a spin last night. I played with a couple of different builds, but I'm not sure quite what I should be doing with him. Here's what I've got right now.

http://kalence.drupa...34153384!AF8.GO

I use a build close to that, at the difference that I skip the 6th rank of Barrier (I find him tanky enough with full fitness and 25 or 30% DR) to put 3 ranks in krogan berserker, mainly for the weight capacity bonus (and a little boost to powers / weapons damage, which is always nice). As for the Piranha, it fits quite well with the Shockwave range, tough personally I like this gun only on kits with a stability or accuracy bonus. I use more the Wraith or the Talon on the krogan shaman.

As I see it, I would say that maxing Warp and Shockwave is the most important to get the best of this character, since biotic explosions with these 2 powers do very high damage. About gear, power amp and adaptative war amp are OK but I think that Adrenaline module (to be faster at Piranha range) and geth scanner (for better awareness) would be better. Gears increasing power damage don't increase the damage of biotic explosions, so the Shaman doesn't benefit a lot from this kind of equipment.

I normally spam the hell out of barrier purge with that class.  Toss a warp and the purge and melee.  It's a pretty fun class.

Yeah, I did know about gear not benefiting detonations, I just wasn't sure what gear would go well on him, so I just threw on whatever. I knew I wanted max Shockwave and Warp, but I went back and forth a couple times on where to put the other points. With both detonation evos, I was getting great booms self detonating and also comboing with other players. The Piranha has decent range with the choke on it, especially against bosses, but I'm still not sold on it. Mostly I used it because it's light. I like the Crusader but without passives it was killing my cooldowns. I may try reducing Barrier for passives, or try that 06666 build.

One thing that really stood out as I was playing last night is how wonky Shockwave and Barrier can be of host. Sometimes triggering either of them had zero effect on enemies.

Yeah the Crusader may be too heavy for the Shaman, tough with ULM (since the gun doesn't needs the smart choke) and 4b in passives it can become decent.

I think that Barrier is worth at least 3 ranks in it (6 points for 25% DR is a good investment IMO), personally I don't like non dodging characters without any source of DR. I have tried it a couple times and felt too squishy. But I guess it can be OK with a cyclonic.

I signal also that the capn just did a nice solo with the shaman (56654 build, with Wraith), with a good use of all his powers. Of course you can play more aggressively in team games but it may be worth a look :

OMG, I remember that particular game, Jade, where I tried him for the first time and took a Crusader (in case I sucked with power use). The hell it was so laggy - I think I needed like 4 turns around the map twice in the match to clear up the last remnants of a wave. I even missed Brutes a couple of times up close.
It's a bit embarrassing when you know 3 people are watching.

[...]I like the Crusader but without passives it was killing my cooldowns. I may try reducing Barrier for passives, or try that 06666 build.[...]

I have tried serverall builds with Barrier but all of them had light (and unkrogan) weapons or had to long cooldowns for my liking.

Skipping Barrier and maxing everything else did the trick for me.

Good or at least decent cooldowns and a kroganworthy weapon for losing some survivability...

The first testruns proved that I like it much more and the loss in survivability is not that big of a deal. He is a Krogan afterall.

Only bad thing about this Build is the loss of barrier detonations... But a Claymore helps to get over it.

A Crusader has the same weight as a Claymore. Because of that cooldowns  are not bad, as long as you do not activate Barrier because of it slows power use by 50%.

It is allways a decision between better cooldown or better survibility. Take whatever works best for you.

I have the Crusader delay patched out, so there's that, but I was playing around with Kalence just now at work (shhh) and it does look like it's just too heavy. Would it be weird to use a Talon or Mattock on him?

It's funny you linked that just now because 56654 is one of the builds I just came up with that looks good, alongside 36656 and the 06666 one from further up.

I'm gonna have to spam packs tonight, I already used all my respec cards on him last night. He seems like one of those kits where every tree is worth putting 6 into, except maybe 5 in passives.

The Talon is half a shotgun, so I would say it's OK for a krogan adept.

Hmm just noticed something. With passives 4b and 6a, no Barrier, and ULM, Warp has just a 3s cooldown with the Crusader. I wonder if it's worth it just to try to fit the Crusader on him. I do have to say, I really like the Crusader.

i like to mix it up with him, and frankly, u dont loose much BE damge with only 5 ranks  (6+6 -> 2088, 5+5 ->1838, so ~125 per level)

I went 46556 splitting fitness between melee and fitness.

Warp, closing down, SW, melee, barrier spam. In fac i dont put the barrier on to keep low cooldowns, just hit it twice.when needed. I might reconsider 5 in warp to go level 5 in barrier to get a shield back every 1.6 sec and go for passive 4b to keep the 3sec cooldown, i m with U on that.

I watched the first wave.  Very good use of all the powers.
