Straight women (or to be more accurate, those who play straight human or elf females) get more. Which is a nice change from BG/ME/where I felt barely tolerated, and not because of romance. I'm not going to apologize for being favored here. Especially when the option I wanted was Blackwall and the other two I'm interested in are Cassandra and Josephine.

Not, I take it, preferable over something like DA2?

Tbh playing as a straight woman Shepard I didn't feel like Mass Effect did so well in the romance department. I feared that it would happen in DA:I and I'm pleasantly surprised that that f!Inquisitor is getting more options.

This on so many levels straight female shepards got screwed seriously Kaiden,Jacob,Garrus all could be dead in ME3 and Thane gets killed off in a really cheap way. And if they are all there kaiden is MIA for a good part of the game and garrus is arguable the best romance for straight fem shepards (IMO) but to each their own oh and jacob I wont even waist my breath on that trash.

Honestly if B-Ware planned on Ruining both Thane and Jacobs romances they should have made Vega and Joker options for Fem Shepard.

Uhm, no thanks. If you're after that sort of thing may I point you in the direction of: Here

I disagree. I see no reason why the LIs of a future Dragon Age game could not all be straight males. It's time for women to have their day.

Would I joke about something so critical to the entire plot of Dragon Age: Every Game as romance? Not to mention this is literally the only representation we can expect to find in universe anywhere for anything. I can't think of anything more important or crucial.

The trouble with the DA2 approach is that then you can't have a Dorian, whose homosexuality informs his character. And some tropes appear silly or offensive outside of a particular dynamic. It's nice in that I don't have an ME situation of vastly preferring one gender and consistently creating characters who'd be perfect for an unavailable LI. But I think I prefer specificity. I don't really care about the distribution beyond having someone I can stand. And that doesn't always mean what you think. My Warden is a lesbian. My Hawke will (I think) be a straight man. My canon Shep is a bisexual female.

They want to remind you the utter awesomeness of the Lavellan clan and the hidden seduction power that the Keeper taught them.

Being elf female = master romance race, I have the idea to make ALL of my PCs elven females, one for each romance (save Cass and Dorian obviously), and headcanon that one is the Inquisitor and the rest are fellow clan members/agents. The Lavellans will take control of the Inquisition and occupy Thedas, one romance at a time. Templars, Grey Wardens, Qunari Mercs, Rogues and Hermits beware, none will be immune to the appeal of the Lavellan.

*Dalish assume no liability if Desire Demons turn out to be involved. Any chance of turning into an abomination or eluvian-related headaches is solely at the romancer's risk.

**-will not actually do this but had to put the idea out there. My love for experiencing different races/genders and all that will prohibit me from achieving this. But I do think the idea would be funny.

Homosexuality only informs Dorian's character because they made Tevinter homophobic to rub how totes ebul it is in our faces even further, and I disapprove of such an approach, so Dorian doesn't add much for me. And what tropes were you thinking of that would be more silly/offensive?

Xenophobia would better define Tevinter, but phobia almost seems like the wrong word. "Elitist" seems more fitting. I think Dorian being gay is just one part of his flip-desk exit. He seems like a guy who has very progressive ideals, the "wants a better world" sort. Being gay would just make the rejection register on a more personal level. I'd say it brings more texture to his character and makes his motivations more relatable.

That isn't true. Not all gay characters have to be romanceable, or even party members. You could all of the love interests bisexual and have one or more characters whose homosexuality informs their character.

You are not elves and dwarves in real life. You're humans with real life attraction and gender. The options are there to appeal to the gender of the people who play the game, not the imaginary elves and dwarves. You don't get discriminated against in real life for being elves and dwarves. People don't get uncomfortable for playing a straight elf romancing a human but do when they play as a gay elf romancing a gay qunari because they part of themselves roleplaying that part as well as the sexual preference which such scenes may repulse them.

Yep.

Set orientations can work very well with 4 all bi LIs.

I think I burnt threw all my outrage on the subject a few months ago. Though that was more about the race gated aspect than the gender imbalance.

At this point I find it hard to get worked up over. I would have preferred an equal split, that didn't happen.

My only real gripe about it is Solas' elf only stance as it seems to conflict with what little we know about his character.

But they've gotten more than gay male and lesbian PCs in every Dragon Age game, period.

They got two in DAO, three in DA2, and now 4 in DAI.

Whereas gay and lesbian characters have gotten: 1, 2, 2.

Goodness gracious, you certainly don't have to apologize as you didn't actually do anything, but you should be able to say, "I agree; that's not fair." Because it isn't.

Obviously, the team weren't going for fairness, but it's okay to point that out if it bothers some people.

You can, of course, add, "I don't care that it's not fair," but that's on you.

And gay Shepard and lesbian Shepard. Gay Shep had nothing in ME and ME2, then two choices (possibly 1 if Kaidan died) in ME3.

Lesbian Shepard had one choice in ME, zero in ME2 (don't even...), and two again in ME3. Nah I'm not counting Kelly and what's-her-name.

But I agree that what happened with Jacob was UTTER CRAP. I'm glad my male Shepard couldn't romance him because my rage would've been through the roof in ME3. People who romanced Jacob have a frigging right to be mad!!! Of course Jack, Tali, and Miranda remained faithful to straight male Shep, but of course. But not Jacob. Nope.

I'm honestly surprised that Varric isn't a romance option, seeing as how many people wanted him to be.
And if anything, I feel Cullen's gotten uglier. Mind you, I hate him with a burning passion.
HOW DARE YOU DISS MY FEMALE AMELL, CULLEN! HOW DARE YOU!!!!

I really wanted Varric as an option, but I can't say I'm at all surprised he's not. Especially given that Cullen was one of the additional romance, it's clear that BW don't make LI choices solely based on popularity of a character. Whatever your feelings on Cullen, you have to agree he has quite the following on BSN at least.

Well, even if you are a non human or elven female, you still have more romances than I do as I would rather kill Cassandra or even not play the game than ever romance that... person.  Which leaves me with gay options (not interested) or a non squadmate (meh).  I'll trade a race gated female dwarf for any other character in the game.

Also, this assumes that there aren't an enormous number of players just waiting to swoon over that awful Cullen.  Race gating him won't matter since the majority of female players will have him available.
