I don't see why DLC should be excluded in this count.

Dragon Age 2 was the closest, yes. But then they made Inquisition, and the same group of people get an additional option (for a total two extra) over everyone else.

So what you are saying is that you want the same number of gay romances as straight or it's not fair?

It is more fair and preferable that straight and gay players have the same amount of options, but in this case my response to you was about the fact that in every case that there was an imbalance of romance options (ie. every Bioware game with romance options so far), straight males and/or straight females have been favored. It's one thing if this was just occasional, quite another if this happens in every game with romance they make, which it has.

Before the delay, this is what they had. 2 options for straight males, 2 options for straight females, 2 options for gay males, 2 options for gay females. I don't see why they couldn't have stopped there and focused on polishing these existing romances instead of making new ones.

Well, to be fair, Sebastian's romance was (it seemed to me) tacked-on garbage, so the imbalance doesn't strike so hard there.

Apparently not garbage enough for a fair number of people to like the romance, though. I do agree that it's not a striking imbalance, but it's still an imbalance that need not exist.

I also don't think that Sebastian's romance is likely to be exclusively contained to DA2 - considering that Hawke is making an appearance in DA2.

Her love interest is likely to be in the game some way, possibly even appearing in-game.

I'd love this, but I dare not hope cos that would mean every DA2 romance companion making a cameo, something I feel is unlikely.

seems like the SJW crowd in the gaming community are shaming developers in adding less male. het. romance options

By 'less', do you mean 'same amount as the past two games and the same amount as gay men, lesbians, and straight dwarf/qunari women'? I think you do.....

And still thinks that most gamers are male. ...Wait. Whut?

Ahh, some guys are just so used to getting the lion's share.

I honestly couldn't care less. As a gay male I fully intend on rolling a female to experience the FM romances once I'm done with my Dorian canon play through. If Vivienne was a love option, I'd roll a straight male too (kinda upset about that, but I'll still remain hopefull of a DLC for her!).

I'm quite used to only having 1 option so the fact I get two (Dorian and IB) is fantastic. I don't feel slighted in the least, after-all, quality over quantity. I just wished more of you thought the same instead of bickering over which sexuality has more options.

i think it's ridiculous really having 5 male li's and only 3 female li's, most gamers are still male.

I completely disagree. Straight female qunari and dwarves have the SAME amount of options as straight males and gay men/women. The same. That's pretty darn equal if you ask me. Everyone's got two. Having the same amount of options as a good chunk of pretty much everyone else sans two character types really isn't something to complain about.

Straight female humans have merely ONE more option. An option that was added later in development (hence more time) and happens to be a fan-favorite that's been across the entire DA series. I don't think that's entirely unreasonable.

Straight female elves have TWO more options.. One is an option that is also available to humans and seems pretty legit considering Origins. The other is very specific and not even a character that's been high on everyone's 'want' list for romance. Actually, an 'additional' romance if you would. However, elves are a fantasy race. Complaining about a fictional people having merely an optional gated romance sounds rather silly.

Plus, this is just the 'official LI/romance arc of companions/advisors'. This says nothing about potential one night stands. Remember how Dairren/Iona (human noble), Gheyna (male characters), Cammen (female characters), Mardy/Teli (male dwarf nobles), Isabela, Jethann, Zevran (DA2) were also 'options' despite not being full fledged romances. Gorim (female dwarf noble) and Tamlen (female Dalish) can be *implied* romances as well. Heck even Anora isn't considered a romance yet she can be married by the human male noble. I wouldn't be surprised if Inquisition had their share of willing NPCs for one night stands. You just won't get the achievement or a long, drawn out love story for it.

I don't understand the logic when people say "why didn't they just stop?". It doesn't make sense to me to complain for having extra.

Why? For the sake of everyone's "choices" being "equal"? When did having more options become a bad thing? Would people feel the same way if the two "extra" options were gay?

These questions aren't meant for anyone in particular -- or necessarily to even be answered. Just kind of wondering aloud.

Everyone has options. I can understand people who don't particularly like their options; that's just the way things happen sometimes. I just don't see how other options affect those people.

I've said it before... it really boils down to:

If you are unhappy with your options, you'll complain / argue / etc.

If you are happy with your options, you'll express your happiness and ask why others are complaining so much.

It's pretty much impossible to be impartial. I've tried and failed!

Let me get this straight:

2 Heterosexual (Blackwall and Cassandra), 2 Homosexual (Dorian and Sera), 2 Bisexual (Josephine and Iron Bull), 2 Heterosexual Race-Gated (Cullen and Solas).

- If you are a bi male, your options are: Cassandra, Dorian, Josephine and Iron Bull. (4)

- If you are a bi female and non-human/elven, your options are: Blackwall, Sera, Josephine, Iron Bull. (4)

- If you are a bi female and human, your options are: Blackwall, Sera, Josephine, Iron Bull, and Cullen. (5)

- If you are a bi female and elven, your options are: Blackwall, Sera, Josephine, Iron Bull, Cullen and Solas. (6)

Looks like bisexual female elf players came out smelling like a rose this time around.

OKAY, OKAY. I'm kid, I'm kid. So sorry, moving on. Breaking it down further:

- If you are a straight male, your options are: Cassandra and Josephine. (2)

- If you are a homosexual male, your options are: Dorian and Iron Bull. (2)

Two for each. Okay.

- If you are a straight female elf, your options are: Blackwall, Iron Bull, Cullen and Solas. (4)

- If you are a straight female human, your options are: Blackwall, Iron Bull, and Cullen. (3)

- If you are a straight non-elven/human female, your options are: Blackwall and Iron Bull. (2)

- If you are a homosexual female (any race), your options are: Sera and Josephine. (2)

Bottom line:

Straight men: 2

Homosexual men: 2

Bisexual men: 4

Straight women: 2 or 3-4 (if human/elven)

Homosexual women: 2

Bisexual: 4 or 5-6 (if human/elven)

I guess the bottom line is straight and bisexual women get one to two more options if human or elven, but otherwise non-human/elven women have roughly the same amount of romance options as men.

well while it is nice you break it down like this to orientation and specie and stuff . But those who've been complaining do not care about the nuances . All they see is females get 4 (don't care about orientation or race gating) and dudes get 2 . <_<

I know, people will complain about whatever. I mostly did this for myself though, so I'd fully understand the situation before expressing sympathy or apathy. Removing race-gated options from the equation (e.g. taking Cullen and Solas out), women have an equal amount of romance options as men. Put them in, and yes. Some women get one or two more options than men.

My issue lies with quality over quantity (like how BioWare made one non-human female companion/adviser and made her female-romance only, so straight/bi men who would like to romance a non-Andrastian human woman are SOL; or how the female companion with the long-established lesbian fanbase was made straight while the aforementioned newcomer one non-Andrastian human companion was made into the one aforementioned lesbian), but people will find a reason to complain about anything. Even me. What they complain about just depends on the person.

In this issue, I'm glad I have it fairly assessed. *shrug*
