Or are we still don't get them? I always hated use the normal bows. Too unspeical. Too common.
are cross bows coming to this game?

Only Bianca from what I've seen... and no, the Inquisitor can't borrow her.

However it is something they might address further down the line in an expansion pack or dlc according Darrah, it was something they looked into bringing back but it would've required to much additional work and time.

I'll just stick with the bow. I never used them in DAO and probably wouldn't use one in DAI if they're available

I wish.
They were my secondary weapon of choice. Which makes me wish weapon sets were still a thing too, actually...

thats right, bianca was the only one in da2.... seems the ferelden turnip dog lords had a little bit more sophisticated weapons than the free marchers had.... and at some points the qunari.... (they at least had throwing spears)

Looks like we won't be able to use crossbows again, just Varric (and we won't be able to use his even though we'll be able to take it from him). Did they ever say why that's the case?

You can take her away, but touch her cocking ring and you die, I guess... :S

When you try to use it, you get kicked out of the menu and Varic starts beating you up for touching his girl.
So don't touch his girl.

I really miss crossbows. And the Warrior archers that usually went with them. Seems a shame that neither are returning.

I guess I'll just have to enjoy my antique Warden Crossbow from that DLC.
Why is old stuff always better? I'd like to find an ancient weapon sometime only for it to suck because old techniques were crude and the thing hasn't been maintained in ages.

Sadly it doesn't sound like it, and thats a shame because I just have a hard time envisioning Dwarves using long or short bows. Crossbows make more sense to me because dwarves aren't usually all that dexterous or aren't usually portrayed as master archers, a weapon thats more mechanical seems more appropriate to me for them. I don't know how else to describe it, Dwarves should at least have all bows turn into Crossbows for them damnit! lol
Something else i remembered about DAO Crossbows, is that they had set damage, that is to say your str or dex didn't increase the damage output beyond the weapons base damage, though by comparison Crossbows had higher base damage than bows, as well as armor penetration. Hence they were good for warriors who wanted a back up range weapon for ranged combat strategies, like killing high dragon without risking getting bitten in half, or continuously clawed to death.

This is a rather annoying in DA2 I played more as Varric than Hawke I loved the Crossbow fighting style and was looking forward to using a crossbow with my Inquisitor but no not an option.Well I know one thing Varrics gonna use dual daggers in my games because if I cant have awesome repeating Crossbow fun he isnt either. ![]()

I've always found crossbows as a primary weapon a bit odd. Unless you've got repeating weapons like Bianca - which is meant to be a one-off - then the reloads should be unfeasibly long.
On the other hand, as a backup weapon for someone not trained to use a bow, they make perfect sense. A melee fighter who wants to be able to take a long ranged pot-shot is perfectly suited to carrying a crossbow, as it's easy to use and powerful.

I want a Qunari thunder stick.
I think they only have them in cannon form right now, but if the Qunari do have muskets i find it hard to believe they haven't conquered more of Thedas.

I'd say at most they have medieval style handguns, which had abysmal range and reload speed, even by the standards of early firearms. Though I doubt they have even that, since it would have been likely that the nations of Thedas would have been able to recover intact guns and powder.

To be fair, early muskets didn't offer a massive increase in firepower over what armies had before (particularly armies with large numbers of well trained archers - I've heard knowledgable people say that it wasn't until the 19th century that firearms could put out the weight of fire that a well trained and equipped archer could). They're advantages were ease-of-use (i.e. you can give one to a peasant and a week later he's ready for battle) and good armour penetration.

I see. I'm still thinking they don't even have that, my general assumption is that besides canons, they use grenades and bombs.

That demon possessed corpse was obviously a huge fan of crossbows and maintained it meticulously. ![]()

It's a convention of fantasy. I think it's meant to be an echo of how in the Middle Ages, most writers seem to be lamenting the glory days of Ancient Rome, and imagining the past to have a been a golden age. Medieval writers tended to think that they lived in the dungpit of history, between the shining age of imperial Rome and the future of god's kingdom on earth.
And now we play games nostalgically set in their era ![]()
