DAO is full of neat characters, some of whom get a lot of screen time to develop, while others pop up for a a scene or two and then disappear, leaving you thinking, "Wow, he could be a really cool character. I'd like to have seen more of him." So this thread is dedicated to minor characters you love, or who you think deserved a larger role.

My nominations would be Ser Bryant, sensible Templar commander of Lothering, and Sergeant Kylon, the long suffering Denerim City Guard officer.

Good choices, OP. I'm going to nominate Ser Gilmore (I know there's a mod, but...), Iona/Dairren, Ser Perth, and Teagan (MUCH more). :)

First and foremost, Teagan.  My favorite NPC in the franchise.  I can't get enough of this guy.

Good choices up there Darkly Tranquil and TheMadHarridan, I'd second those guys as well.  I ran the Ser Gilmore mod and it was fun (he's a beast with 2 handers), but I would have much preferred he survived with the Cousland warden to get to Ostagar.

Let me add to the list with Gorum (my favorite dwarf in Origins), Dagna (cuter than a box of puppies), Shianni (the little spitfire!), and Daveth (so disappointed we lose him all too soon  :( ).

I believe Dagna is going to be in DAI, so at least one person's wish is coming true. I also love Shianni, she's such a great character. She's so full of fire and self confidence given her background and what she has been through; she embodies elven resilience in the face of human inflicted hardship.

Well no one is really jumping out at me that I can think of.  One thing I would have loved to have happen is if you side with the werewolfs that witherfang would join the party.  Maybe Earl would survive the night attack on Redcliffe if I had more opportunity to get to know him...ok probably not.

I LOVE Ser Bryant from the Lothering Chantry; the Templar you talk to to learn what's going on and collect the reward on the bandits you defeat outside of town. He is SUCH a great character, and filled with common sense. "Only fools fight over a house while it burns around them," he says. I wish I was around more.

Felsi. She is a good match for Oghren.

Some might argue over the definition of fleshed out, but I'd say the Couslands! All of em! The PC sees a loving family, but I would've liked to have seen Bryce at a Landsmeet, or Eleanor at court. Also would have been interesting to see how connected Oriana was with Antiva.

Riordan.

As far as NPCs that aren't companions go he's probably the biggest bad@ss introduced by the series so far. He practically solo'd an archdemon.

The Warden (or Alistair or Loghain) might get the kill shot, but that was only after Riordan had grounded it by jumping on its back (mid flight!) and crippling its wings. And he did it probably knowing that he was going to die.

I would say Teagan, the first enchanter Irving, knight commander Greagoir, and of course Sandal. (He's in both games but we still know almost nothing about him.)

The Mad Hermit of the Brecilian Forest

I was going to say that as well! Did THEY put you up to this?

Also: Tamlen, Teagan, Zathrian's First (her name is escaping me at the moment), Daveth, ser Bryant, and the elven enchanter you need to help clear the spiders out of the archive.

Zathrian's First (her name is escaping me at the moment), and the elven enchanter you need to help clear the spiders out of the archive.

Zathrien's First is Lanaya

The elven mage is Senior Enchanter Leorah

Sergeant Kylon, definitely.  His every line is hilarious, and his voice actor delivers them all in perfect deadpan.

Riordan was pretty awesome.  Stroud, the Free Marches grey warden from DA2, has the same voice actor and is a similar character, so maybe he'll have a larger role to play in future games.

Deadpan is kind of his specialty.  Kylon and Sten share a voice actor.

Ser Gilmore. Yes, there is a mod but I'm not a fan of it. 1) because it is so buggy (both the one with just him and the one with like 15 other companions). And 2)Because I don't like his patronizing attitude that he has

Tamlen. I hated that he was made into a ghoul, it was rather heart wrenching finding him later like that.

Jowan. I'm still peeved that we don't know what ever happened to him if you chose to have him sent back to the Tower!

Teagan. Yes I need more of that guy

Daveth. Jory can go suck an egg.

Fergus Cousland

um.. yea, those are the only one that are coming to my mind right now

I have the Ser Gilmore mod (not the one with like 30 other characters, just him) and I had no issues with how it ran, though admittedly I don't run a lot of 'game changing' mods, just a lot of cosmetic ones.  I had some problems with the 'fanficish' feel of the writing, (and I have to agree that a lot of what he says was patronizing, but I think it was trying to insert some importance into the character's presence).  But considering this was done by a fan in his/her own free time and a labor of love, I am willing to cut them some slack on that field.  He felt well integrated into the story and had a lot to talk about even after everyone else had gone to 'what can I do for you?' responses followed by the selection of the warden saying "never mind".  Plus, I loved putting a 2 handed blade in his hands (even though he was sword/shield) and watching him chew through my enemies.

The only time the mod disappointed me was on my Cousland (I only ran him with Couslands since he fit best in that instance) and took him to confront Howe, where his dialogue trumps the Warden's.  I get that his backstory is he barely survived the massacre and I get he had issues, but the Cousland lost everything to Howe as well.  After that, I took to leaving him in Eamon's for the trip to Howe's estate.

Sorry, I don't like being upstaged by a secondary character who was never technically supposed to be there in the first place. :P  However, I still think it would have been nice if Bioware had included him in the vanilla game.

Shianni... The first NPC I ever 'met' in Thedas, and still my favourite non-companion NPC. Even my non-Tabris Wardens are happy to see her.

Bann Teagan... I mean, is there anyone who doesn't love Teagan?

Amethyne... I wish there had been a side quest to help her, at least for Couslands who interacted with Iona.

Ser Perth... I love that guy! (Probably because his voice actor was also my second favourite Mr Darcy ever.)

Sergeant Kylon... The snarkiest man in Denerim.

Sister Justine... The least snarky woman in Ferelden.

Daveth... I still can't quite believe they killed him off.

Senior Enchanter Sweeney... Lots more fun than Wynne!

Wade and Herren... !!!!!!!!!!!

Felsi... I like her more than I do Oghren.

Duncan... For someone who is so important in every Warden's journey, he has precious little face time.

Riordan... If only so he'd have plenty of opportunity to fill the Warden in on ALL THE THINGS!

and finally

Old Tegrin...  Not really!!! I just wanted to see if anyone actually reads this.  :P

I often use the Ser Gilmore mod as well, and I've never had it be buggy except for the one time I had the Companion Compatibility Core installed with him (the gate goodbyes got screwed up). Once I removed that, no more problems with Ser Gilmore, well, bug-wise anyway.

I do agree that the person who made this (Immortality, I think?) did a fine job with it, but as sylvanaerie said, the writing was very "fan-ficish" (and his intrusion into my Cousland's revenge on Howe was so not cool). It wasn't even so much that patronizing tone of his that bugged me (he definitely had one, but I looked past it most of the time); it was his "holier-than-thou" attitude. For example, my male King Cousland annulled the Circle; thereby, forcing him to have to either kill Connor or kill Isolde. He chose to save Connor. While Gilmore didn't give a fig about the Circle, he royally chewed out my Cousland for doing blood magic. The NICEST option I had to appease him was to say that I was sorry, but this was the fastest option. He gave me more disapproval than Alistair!

Also, don't do more than two "naughty" things, or he'll decide you're too evil to be friends with (this includes sacrificing Isolde, siding with the werewolves, and preserving the Anvil or the Void). If you only do two of those things (King Cousland preserved the Anvil and sacrificed Isolde), as long as you admit you are sorry and that you're a terrible person, he'll forgive you. And NEVER destroy the Sacred Ashes. That's unforgivable to him.

I'm not criticizing the mod for this, as these character traits are what the mod author thought fit his character, but for me, playing a pragmatic or wicked Warden with him in the party is not practical. If you're a shiny, goody-two-boots, he's great. I've even had an open relationship with him (never have gotten around to having a loving, committed relationship yet). He's hilarious when you proposition Isabela. :)

Ser Perth... I love that guy! (Probably because his voice actor was also my second favourite Mr Darcy ever.)

Old Tegrin...  Not really!!! I just wanted to see if anyone actually reads this.  :P

I loved him as Mr. Darcy in Lost in Austen! One of my favorites. He's probably my second or third favorite Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen is my favorite, while dear Ser Perth is warring with Colin Firth for second place.). :)

Old Tegrin? Ack! I only want to see him one time, so I can buy his gifts and Tome. After that, I'd be happy to never encounter him again.

Even with the freezy chair?  :pinched:  I'm leaning towards 'little creepy, that'.

Teagan - Too much Teagan is never enough

Cullen - I'd rather have him than Wynne

Gorim - dwarf noble second Gorim not lyrium addled other one

Tamlen/Fenarel - sweety/sweety

Murdock and that one that Teagan has trouble remembering his name (the one from the bridge) you know

Nan - love that woman (more grandmotherly than Whine er Wynne) I headcannon that when my Sorcha was little (5 or 6) Nan made her really angry and she slapped her face. -_- Papa Bryce not happy with that one.

Kardol - he was pretty cool

Dagna's dad - love his voice - you put a hole in my wall

Lady Helmi - Queen of Orzammar

thankyou DarklyTranquil these are always the best threads more so than the darker dourer ones that end up about Loghain :D

Oh yes and Nate and Seneschal Varel

And Duncan just once more - to find his body and give him a decent send off.

And also Fergus!!

I wanted to matchmake him with Alfstanna. Then I decided her name was too long and I thought he could just call her Anna, but then she's a Bann so she would be bannanna (hysterical giggling hysterical giggling hiccup)

I would sacrifice nearly any of the companions we actually got to keep Daveth around.  Bummer that the guy probably most qualified to be a Grey Warden is the one who died.
