Bioware said Someone will teach us the specs, but not the companions.Perhaps we get training from our companions in getting these specializations through story versus just being able to through leveling. If it is through story, it could make sense for your qunari or elf mage to seek out a companion to get a particular training. You can then rp however way you would your main's motivation in getting Knight enchanter. For example: Perhaps your elf or qunari likes the utility of the tree versus the philosophy.
The rest of the DAI Specializations revealed!

Eh, Warrior seems kind of boring. If Reaver eats your HP, and there's not healing magic, it seems like a risky spec. Champion is the best all-purpose spec. Guess I'm going to be a Champion. (Although the mage and rogue specs seem intriguing. Second playthrough as a mage should be fun.)

If it's risky like Vanguards it might be worth it.

I was expecting Tempest to be something like having a set of Celene's enchanted rings, I'm not unhappy with the idea of my quizzy laughing like a loon as she brews her potions but I think I was more attached to the idea of enchanted jewellery than I realised.
My plan was to make my elf a Rift Mage but being a protective tank would suit her too. The decision might depend on a) the exact abilities we get and b)how the spec is taught.
Even if it's under a different name I'm glad Force Mage is back, I loved the CC in that specialisation.

Reaver sounds just like Beserk. Templar is of course predictable. Sounds like I'm going Champion as it appears to be the de facto tank. Hopefully a two-handed champion will actually be much more viable than it has been in the past. We are bound to only one specialization in DAI? Correct? I believe while our freedom in a sense is more limited, there are more abilities and options in each specialization. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm new to the Dragon Age games, but I have to say that I got the jist of Knight Enchanter and I understand Necromancer gameplay from other titles. Rift mage, however, seems unique. Looking forward to trying it out on my first playthrough and learning its mechanics.

If the Tempest's Alchemy allows for the enchanting/poisoning of arrows using various potions, that's definitely going to be my Rogue's specialization.
As far as Mage goes, I'll probably do KE first, and save Rift Mage for my fourth playthrough (after having done Warrior, Rogue and Mage each once). That way, I'll really know how the game works and I'll be able to realistically RP a Rift Mage who knows how best innately to use the Fade as a very powerful weapon.
It might be cool to play as a Templar Warrior, just to RP a Templar who sides with the Mages. That could be a fun ride.

My mage was initially going to be a Rift Mage, and that still sounds neat, but Knight Enchanter would fit her as well - at least, the bits about being loyal to the Circle and focusing on protection and defensive spells.
My warrior was initially going to be a sword and shield Champion, but now that I've fleshed out her personality a bit more in my mind I may go with two-handed Reaver instead. She's basically a female Iron Bull, AND she'll be dating him. Having two Reavers in the party would be... interesting.
My rogue was going to be an archer but I hadn't settled on much more than that. Neither Artificer nor Tempest sound very appealing to me, but hopefully if I play one of my other characters first, I will get a feel for which rogue class I like through the companions.
I'm happy that there will be reactivity to specializations this time around, but I hope that doesn't mean we HAVE to pick one. There seem to be plenty of skills to fill your arsenal with even without throwing a specialization into the mix.

Warrior: Reaver, probably. I loved the life draining shenanigans they could do in DA2.
Rogue: Both Artificier and Tempest are tempting. Tempest does sound really cool.
Mage: so hard to choose! all 3 specs look great. I'll probably go for Rift Mage or Knight Enchanter, whichever I unlock first.

I'll probably go Rift Mage for my Female Elf Inquisitor as my first playthrough, then Knight Enchanter for my Female Human Inquisitor as my 2nd playthrough.

LIke others have said Rift mage sounds like it has aspects force mage and Necromancer aspects of entropy which is exactly what was speculated and it does make me happy, I'n just hoping that the spec trees have a decent amount of active spells in them to counteract the lack of variety in the base trees.
Based on this I will be making inquisitors using all 3 mage specs.

Hmm. Rogue specs aren't exactly blowing my skirt up; of the three the Tempest sounds the most intriguing. I hope it plays well with a bow, though.
Looks like I might be rolling mages after my rogue though. They all sound pretty awesome!

So tempest looks like the "magic rogue" spec, very interesting, didn't expect that. I'm stick with artificer, but I can see tempest being a fun class, it's kind of like being a bender in the DA universe; elemental abilities coupled with fast melee strikes.

The description of the Rift Mage sounds kind of underwhelming. I was hoping for summoning spirits from the fade to aid your allies or hinder your enemies. Now it's just "attacks from the fade". Sounds like a generic Mage to me.
I think it's good to have a mage spec that's a fairly traditional style mage.

What you want would be like a necromancer just using other means.
Rift mage sounds like a CC heavy mage spec which is perfect for me.

Yes I still want to make an artificer rogue but I really want to see what the actual tempest abilities are.
Its funny that they keep changing the rogue and mage specs throughout the series but the warrior specs have remained quite consistent.

Rift Mage
These mages draw upon the force of the Fade, either pulling matter from the Fade to attack or twisting the Veil itself into a weapon to stagger or crush their enemies.
Hm...
"Mr. Dewitt, catch!"

Finally, they are officially revealed! I am kind of disappointed to not see a bard brought back for the rogue. The necromancer doesn't seem like the typical "necromancer" class to a certain extent which makes me tempted to try it. So it looks like I am definitely going to try the Reaver, Tempest and all 3 mage specs.
