We haven't seen enough of the elite to really compare, but I would say based on reputation alone, the Chevaliers are the strongest warriors, the Antivan Crows the finest rogues, and the Magisters the most adept mages. Only one organization combines all of the above, and that is, of course, the Grey Wardens. For that reason alone, I'd give them the crown, on top of all their funky darkspawn powers.
I would have to say the Chevaliers would be my best guess, not because they say so or because they're Orlesian. My reason is based off of what Sir Michel says throughout the masked empire book. He constantly says how they are trained day and night to fight just about everything imaginable. They're trained to fight bards, mages, Templars, bandits, demons, even darkspawn and the undead for crying out loud.
The other thing is I only count chevaliers that actually keep in shape, not any of those nobles that went through the training and couldn't be bothered after they finished. So chevaliers like Gaspard and Michel would be my ultimate answer. Only because they are trained to never hesitate and they have the most experience fighting any opponent. I would love for my characters to have that kind of training.

my inquisitor needs no vanguard, he and his crew are the vanguard. Those other chumps just sit back and get the kills that try to run from the inquisitor's pure awesomeness.
Who do you people think is the best class of warrior, knighthood or mercenary band in the world? Every empire and kingdom boasts their warrior elite.
Orzammar has The Legion of The Dead, Orlais has the Chevaliers and The Chantry has the Order of The Templars.
But amongst all these warriors who do you think is the mightiest and which one would you want to serve the Inquisition as youe Vangaurd?

Tevinters(from all modern Thedas Kingdoms Tevinter have the best soldiers)
Nevarrans
Dwarvens
PS. of course Orlais and Chantry portrait their Chivaliers and Templars as best but Thedas history and we all know that this is a total bullshit and they are clowns
and if Qunari win something they win it only by many looses what their Tamasrans does not care...they are the same as darkspawns when it comes to battes..they simply do zerg rush
I think I might ally with Gaspard now. He is the leader of the Chevaliers, and based on what I've read in the lore and this thread, I sure want those guys on my side.
Dalish Warriors > Dwarf Warriors? Bullshit. There's a reason the Dwarves are creators of the Berserkers.
I do think a Grey Warden Dwarf Tempar army would be pretty dang powerful. Combine that with the Legion of the Dead's loyalty and mindset (the best death is death in battle) and we're ready to rumble.
lol, Hawke is awful. Even Alistair can beat an Arishok. And this one was a companion.
