He says that on the Friendship path too. But he gives up on in without explanation in the very next conversation. I honestly don't remember him consistently leaning towards compromise until the very end of the game on the rivalry path. I only remember him being more sour towards Hawke.
Yeah he argues with Hawke more on the rivalry about the viability of compromising. It felt like (to me anyway) he was finally coming over (since Hawke had been arguing with him about it's usefulness for years) but then the whole Justice hijack happened and Hawke kind of sighs and walks away. And I really can't blame Hawke at that point Anders was a hot mess. Anders claimed he'll try to fix his mistake but in typical Anders fashion at that point he does nothing but make it worse.
Edit:
And even getting him to admit his mistake (before Justice interrupts) is something that Hawke has to convince him of, wasn't it?
Yes it's his questioning belief conversation. You can end the convo early or you can push it.
(That said I think he admits it regardless on that box).

Suuuuuure.
You don't take chances with crazy.

Inquisitor: Hey Leliana what ever happened to the Warden?
Leliana: *is wearing her brand new Warden suit* Oh s/he'll always be with me...
There's a word for people like you, Cheesecake, but I can't put my finger on it.
Anyway, Leliana's brand of crazy isn't homicidal, so haters gonna hate.

I'm intrigued.

Oh so that's where my Warden's armor went. She was wondering who stole it.
I'm intrigued.
Suits made from elves have come into fashion.
Apparently Elf leather is incredibly comfortable.

Yes... the Warden's... armor. I suppose skin can be considered armor.

Too true. I hear those Médecins sans Frontières guys are really a front for Hydra.
Hail Hy... I mean I have no idea what you might be talking about?!
What's a Hydra?

Oh I wouldn't count on that. I'm sure whatever this "Hydra" organization is they wouldn't feel the need to act against me...
Hail Hydra!
*catches up on thread*
Seems I missed a lot of good stuff
This topic is based on a deliberately biased viewpoint. Also, trying to paint an entire organization with an adjective so broad as 'evil'? Painting the Chantry as 'good' is just as foolish. It's an organization founded and run by humans. Ergo, it is automatically flawed(Not that organizations run by non-humans aren't equally flawed). But to call the Chantry evil ignores the good. Calling it good ignores the bad. Whether or not its influence is positive or negative? That's debatable.
However, since the OP states we're supposed to only present arguments that the Chantry is evil, I present the following argument:
Ow, my head hurts from watching Ieldra and Dean debate lol. They are way too smart for me. Can we go back to fighting?
I agree, civil and intelligent discourse in a DA thread hurts my head, its unnatural
A religion that bases the salvation of the world on conversion is inherently incredibly dangerous, if not outright immoral.

all religions are invested in the conversion of non-believers
There is nothing immoral about attempting to show the "truth" to those who have no been exposed to it. Immorality may arise when wars over the religion and conversion erupt.
Or its the Maker's way of recognizing his own
