My favourite friendships are Sten and Shale in DAO. In DA2 I just didn't like anyone much, maybe at a push Fenris and Anders.

I'll be honest: I think I would have enjoyed Fenris' friendship more than I had if things like teaching him to read were not flirt options.  Still, he's an Honorable Mention for my mage Hawkes in particular.

"To you Hawke!  A finer mage I have never known."

Feels pretty good.

leliana, Wynne and oghren for origin

Sigrun and Justice in awakening

Isabella, Varric, Merryl and Aveline in DAII.

I should say, I was really disappointed by Anders and Justice in DAII...

Sten.  I honestly gave up on talking to him in my first playthrough.  I'm glad I gave him a second chance, because it's so rewarding to hear him open up about his likes and insecurities.  And having to earn his respect makes it that much more valuable when you have it.

Wynne.  Her concern and guidance is so touching, and so needed given how emotionally brutal Origins gets.

Aveline.  The fact that in the middle of becoming captain of the guard, she still has time to have people keep an eye on Hawke.

Varric.  I want to hear Varric's stories forever.

Shale, Alistair, Aveline, and Isabela.

Followed closely by Leliana and Wynne.

Followed somewhat more distantly by Varric and Sebastian.

I don't include the characters I typically romance, and I don't include Carver (he's family, not a friend).

Isabela, Varric, Aveline, Zevran, Fenris (as a mage), Carver. I never "kill" Flemeth unless I'm romancing her, so Morrigan never goes upper than warm, although I like her character.

I found the relationships in DA2 to be very realistic and satisfying, maybe more than in DAO. Especially Bela, Varric, Carver and Aveline.

Tough...

Aveline, probably, especially that scene after Leandra's death, better than consolation from LI even. I once played an AssHawke who antagonized her, and when she quit in the end it really hurted me. She also has the best dynamic in the game - making a career, finding a husband (or not), changing outfits :D, living a life, basically - and you can be part of that. It's awesome. The most important thing in relationship is respect and trust. And Aveline is both, even if sometimes she is that big sister who lectures you.

I know that Varric is extremely popular and he has great chemistry with sarcastic Hawke, but it felt as he was written to be likeable and never argue with Hawke and I felt as if something was amiss here.

I was very cautious about Isabela, but she won my heart when she returned with that qunari relic. Since she was the main LI for my Hawkes, it's a bit hard to see her as a friend only. But maybe it's that case when you get both a lover and a friend in one package.

Bethany, oh how disheartening it was that she had so little content. Especially when Hawke cannot even visit her in the Gallows or  write her a letter if she is a Warden (it breaks my heart when she is though, especially knowing what the Wardens go through. Call me crazy, but I never took Morrigan and Leliana into the Deep Roads in Orzammar after the first playthrough.) I would gladly sacrificed Anders and Merril to spend more time with her. Actually, add Sebastian to the pile.

Morrigan and female Warden, as was mentioned before. Claudia Black's delivery was fantastic.

Leliana, though again she was main LI for my Wardens, and I'm afraid romance takes precedence here. Still, it was sweet relationship with female Warden. (I hate catty fights between Morrigan and Leliana if you play as a guy.)

Wynne as a wise mentor especially for the Mage Warden. I even liked her nagging. Besides, that griffon story. :D

Sten, because breaking racial stereotypes is always awesome. Female Warden - double awesome.

Nathaniel and Sigrun were great in Awekening, especially for Cousland and Brosca respectively.

I tend to like more the ones that start off on the wrong foot. Shale, Sten, Howe, Velanna.

DA2 doesn't really have something like that. I'd go with Aveline. Felt more realistic, well developed, and had a certain dynamic. Something that the others lack. I enjoyed the back and forth with Varric and Isabela but other than that the relationship feels shallow.

I really liked the friendship my Warden formed with Shale, even though I made her mad in our first conversation. "So what now? Do you go on a killing spree?"

My favourite is Shale, getting to know about her and her past.  Going to the Cadash Thaig was a nice touch, just so she could regain some of her memories.  I also liked the building up the relationship between my warden and Sten, because he is so disciplined.  Some of things you can get out of him just make me smile (it's like chipping bits away to reveal something slightly more soft underneath). Plus having Shale and Sten together was great.

I also liked the relationship between my Surana warden and Wynne.  I just felt over the game they gained a real bond and she came across as the person my warden would go to for some sense and guidance.

In DA2, the only real friendships I thought my Hawke genuinely had was with Aveline and Varric (and Bethany if Hawke was a non-mage).

As far as friendships go, I'd say Hawke and Varric is my favorite, followed by Warden/Sten, Warden/Alistair, and Hawke/Bethany.

DAO: Shale and Morrigan.

Dare I say, Shale got sentimental toward the end there. instead of the usual sigh when I went to talk to her, I got "I am listening". Might not seem like it but that really showed the level of respect she gained for my Warden.

Morrigan's friendship is that deal. She did that little laugh that she normally does when a male warden takes control of her and they're in love which caught me off guard. I beat the game again last night and for a few seconds i'd forgotten she left and was looking for her at the coronation. =(

DA2: Aveline. It wasn't until I played as a female weapon/shield warrior that I saw that she is really genuinely loyal...my Hawke saw in her the older sister she never had. I did a head canon that she pranks Aveline's office a lot(stole one of the curtains...Donnic was in on it) and one day Aveline plays the ultimate prank to get her back.

As for many people here, Morrigan and the female I found to be really moving, and I think it really makes a difference for the finale and the choices you have to make. Her final goodbye at Denerim is really emotional. The Warden's relationships with Shale and Sten are also really moving, but Morrigan's is the best by far.

I'm also a fan of Oghren, if you get him to maximum friendship. It's less engaging than Morrigan's, but I find his speech to you in Denerim always moves me to tears. His movement from someone's who's lost and without purpose, hiding behind a facade of alcohol and poor taste, to someone who has purpose again is something I just find very emotional. Also why I utterly despise what they did to him in Awakening. But even BioWare admits bringing him back was a mistake.

in DA2, I think Hawke's relationship with Carver was the most moving for me. Especially with the added content in Legacy when done in the later Acts. I loved the way he starts off resenting you and then begins to find himself (especially in the Wardens), and the bond you can form over your mother's death and your father's, well, legacy really shows how much Carver grows as a person. And then when he comes back for the conclusion in Act 3, rushing back to Kirkwall because he's worried about you (and oh god, how he rages if you've sided with the Templars). I just found the Hawke-Carver relationship dynamic really well-developed. I'm kinda sad he never got set up with Merrill, I think it would have been rather sweet.

There is something about the Dragon age companions, that half of them end up ***** me off for an reason or another. Like they have certain personal traits that made me like them, but at the same time they had other traits that annoyed me to no end, and as such, by the end of the day I was indifferent about them. That never happened to me in Mass effect. I pretty much loved all squadmates except for one or two.

Well, for my favourite friendships, these are the ones:

Shale: I just liked her no nonsense sarcasm and her personal quest of self discovery.

Dog: I guess this one is by default, so never mind...

Sten: Not so much that I liked him, I mean, he did some pretty awful stuff, but I came to truly respect him as an individual. And once I gained his respect I knew I could trust him with my life.

Oghren: I just liked how he never took anything too seriously, and the fact that he shows more loyalty then most of my companions, going as far as to turn on his own wife in order to help. You don't get much more loyal then that, and that earned my respect.

Loghain: Yeah, yeah, the black sheep of this game, but once you get to know him, you can see beyond the paranoid general, and find someone that will follow you to the black city itself if you can prove your worth to him. It may not look like it, but I think he truly understand what loyalty is all about when you go to the core of it.

Nathaniel: Despite being an Cousland, I found an honest and loyal friend with him. He was an man integrity, inteligence and respect. If someone could help put the family bitterness behind, that's him.

Sigrun: I just loved her oddly cheerful and punky personality despite her grim views on life. If there was someone that could turn some dull night at the tavern exciting, that was Sigrun.

Varric: An true friend that values fun, friendship and loyalty. It's never an dull moment around him, and he knows how to be supportive when the time asks for it.

Aveline: Similar reasons to Varric, thought in an much more serious way. I also liked how she managed to stay level headed and resonable while everyone around her freaked out for one reason or another. She was the older sister Hawke never had.

Bethany: My absolute favourite. She just was that precious and loving sister that I would be willing to move mountains for.

Definitely Morrigan and her expression when you tell her that she's a friend (and then when she says that to you).

Shale, earning her respect and when she acknowledges she used to be a squishy dwarf.

For me, it's Shale. She goes from wanting to crush you into paste, to not so much wanting to crush you into paste.

DAO ? Alistair for sure, he is the first and for my lady-wardens the prime LI as well. He is just a weird yet likeable chap (though my first playthrough I didn't figure  out you had to harden him ... I really got mad at the Landsmeet and what came later ^^)

Also Leliana. I don't really know why, but I always consider her to be BFF of my Lady-Warden, you know, the one you talk about guys, shoes ... well, they do that in game, maybe that's why

Maybe also Morrigan, to some extent ... though I mostly see her as the "Cartman" of my core-group... B) And maybe Shale, but the others? I don't care that much about most of them, they are just kinda there for me...

In DA2? Avelline for sure...she is the kind of friend you wanna have if things turn out sour. Maybe she isn't always fun at parties and is a but preachy at times, but hey, if things go tough, she'll be at your side, no matter what. I also like it how she still stands up for Isabela, even though she often gets mad at her. Avelline is just a great person.

Also Varric, mostly because he is the first to really help Hawke in Act 1 and sets things in motion. I also like it how he protects everyone of the party with his influence.

And maybe Merril, because she is simply so...cute and loveable and fragile and naive...you just wanna hug her, its impossible not to consider her a friend (and her voice-actress sometimes brought my cynical real-life self a bit to tears, no kidding here...)

Varric, he is the kind of guy who will watch your back and be with you through thick and thin.

Aveline is the kind of person who would grow to be a life long best friend.

Wynne, her friendship of course feels more like a parent/mentor, but I love the wisdom and care that she tries to share with the warden.

For me it was Sten and Zevran. I wasn't the biggest Zevran fan, but I loved that moment when Taliesin gives him an opportunity to return, but he can choose to not betray the Warden.

In DA2, it's definitely Isabela and Fenris, because both of them have some of my favorite turning points for each character depending on friendship. I would have added Varric to this, but Varric doesn't really have a really meaningful arc that I can recall. He's kind of always your friend and he can never leave you.
