I'm playing DAII again, and I'm really loving it.  I was one of the disappointed DA:O fans when DA:II was released (and I actually didn't get past Act I at the time), but I'm honestly finding that I love it as much as DA:O now.  I'm even appreciating the voiced protagonist for the first time and finding that it really adds a lot to the experience.

The problem is, my interpretation of the paraphrasing is often wildly different than what the voice actor says, and I've started feeling the need to just stick to one tone throughout the whole game instead of playing a more complex Hawke that is more my own character.  I really would love it if there were subtitles for every option, likely on a 2- or 3-second delay when you hover over it, before you make the selection.

I mention the delay option mostly because I know that many people like the fluid conversation that results when you use paraphrasing (and it does look much more tidy than it would be to just have the full dialogue displayed, which is what I found myself wanting initially).

I found that a lot too. I'd see an option, think "Oh! That's exactly what my Hawke would say right now!", then he goes and says something completely different...

In DAI they are addressing this issue by showing in text what the actual voiced answer will be when you hover over your chosen response for a few seconds

Awesome!  I didn't know that, haha.  That was my exact suggestion, actually.  D'oh.

I thought that was just gonna show the consequenses...

Like, pick answer 1 and the guards will fight the dragon, with answer 2 they'll give up and go back home, answer 3 will have them go get reinforcements. And so on.

But it might have changed... I try not to follow DAI infromation religiously or I'm never gonna last til november

No they don't whey just explaining when you have a choice like in demo who you protect keep, town....

We don't get full text. Even if a lot of people want it. It doesn't work for them. And we have games like Alpha protocol, deus ex, witcher....

I never understand why we can't get full text, but we not get full text or at least part of it, this is biggest think I hate they removed from Dragon age.

We not get full text? My bad, I was under the impression we did.

Even so, I am sure the paraphrasing will be a lot better because it was a huge criticism in DA2.

The devs have said that displaying the full text failed in testing, though they didn't say exactly why the testers didn't like it.

Really?  I was incredibly excited.  There's honestly no reason why someone would dislike it.  I imagine most people who don't want to read the full text wouldn't hover over an option for long, anyway.  Honestly, even if it was like 10 seconds, I'd be patient and weigh my options based on what I'm actually going to say rather than, say, options like DA:II had, where Carver says something like "We have to stay here" (meaning Kirkwall) and one of Hawke's paraphrased options says "We can't stay here" (meaning The Gallows), and the result is a completely jarring response.  I know, DA:II was a rushed game, and remarkable in spite of that fact, but still...  I have high hopes for Inquisition.  I hope Dubya75's right, and they've -at least- improved the paraphrase system, if that's all we get.

I think what they're addressing is they're making the inquisitor's voice more neutral when making choices and you can react aggressively, excited, shocked, sarcastic etc. instead when given the chance,

If I remember correctly, the actual testing feedback wasn't on the hovering thing, it was on just showing the dialogue from the get go. The hovering dialogue showing was, again relying on my questionable memory, a challenge for the UI. Even if you go to the hovering route, you actually need to have the space where that text shows. Not only that, but the presentation in that hovering text needs to be something easily readable and something that doesn't drown in the background and each scene needs to be designed so that the text won't cover anything important for the scene.

So not only would the hovering dialogue require a same UI design than just showing the text, to add even more difficulties is that if you don't wait for the hovering text, there would be a relatively notable part of the screen completely unusable.

I realised that too and I really hope they work on that. Sometimes red option sounds better in the options but suddenly your Hawke says something different in very insulting way although that wasn't in the option. That was just awful ^^; It's like ME with renegade interrupts, I have punched way too many people I'd have want to since I didn't know what would happen if I press the button XD

I have a habit of hitting quicksave before any event in the game, combat, dialogue, opening a door, whatever. So this doesn't affect me that much. But as far as DA2 goes, I found that you either play good/sarcastic or you play aggressive. Hawke has some serious multiple personality issues.

I like punching people and I still hate interrupts. I consider them as quick time events. I have to consciously stop myself from pressing them. :P

In ME3 I've hugged everyone. Seriously. I'm not a hugger I swear!

I totally get what you mean. At the first time i played it i event thought that i have the wrong game in my pc. It was sooo different but now i love it as much as the Origin. The full voice was a great change and i adored it, but the choise i made with what he/she said sometimes was too different. And you should definitely had a player that had one-sided character, either good, sarcastic (the best) or badass to have a bonus in the talking choices.
