Anyone else feel like humans got shafted on the racial abilities? According to the official website:
Elves: +25% ranged defense
Dwarves +25% magic defense
Qunari +10% melee defense
Humans +1 starting ability point.
The other races all get extra defenses which will be very useful throughout the entire game. Humans get one measly ability point.
Note ability point means a Talent or Spell, like Mighty Blow or Cone of Cold etc. Not a single attribute point, that would really be rubbish.
I'd say it seems like it might be a bit weak at the end of the game, but it'll be very good at the start.
It highlights the adaptability of Man. We can use this point to complement which class we choose.
30In a game with only twenty or so levels. One more ability point is always useful.

Humans conquered Thedas with their bonus ability points. I wouldn't discount it.

I think 30 is more like the cap than what you're actually likely to get in a regular playthrough.
Having that extra ability point could mean the difference between surviving a boss fight and dying all because you didn't have that extra passive that does 50% more critical damage or enemies run in fear 20s longer.
When building a good character it could mean a lot.
I don't think any one race is better or worse than another it depends on what you are building for and what class/spec you choose to play.
Humans are probably going to have a social advantage over other races as well.

That doesn't get elves attacked by the cops. They just stand aside for the lynch mob in cases like that.
