so theorectically humans are stronger overall.
I'd assume you'll be able to pick where that bonus point goes, which would make Humans a bit more flexible than other races.

Very useful for when you have a kilo of uncut Lyrium dust in the trunk
Just have Varric in the party when you're not Human. He'll just bribe or blackmail 'em.

This probably why the humans are so powerful since the lyrium probably gets distributed in inner elf's neighborhood and promoting elf on elf violence.

Yep
It might be about equal if 10% melee/ 25% ranged/ 25% magic defense are like most passives in terms of strength. Although humans have the benefit of more versatility/being able to get to other abilities more quickly.
Humans are superior in every way.
Hence why they don't need a +25% Magic or Ranged defence bonus.
One ability point! That's all they need.

Nah you got your products mixed up. Elf root is the elves' thing.
It makes sense to have a weaker racial ability if the developers want to encourage players to play the other races and make human less of the standard choice. Having said that, I don't know if it actually is weaker. An extra ability at the start sounds very useful, and around the end I probably won't care.

Too poor. There's more money to be made selling it to the Templars.

An extra ability point to put where you want and not having to deal with anywhere near as much fantastic racism. Humans are going to do fine.
Humans are almost certainly the best option if you're looking to be pure DPS.
How are humans the worst? Without tomes or other factors outside of levelling, humans are always going to be one ability ahead of the other races, giving the player more options.

Good point. All the other races get defensive bonuses.
I'm not worried about it.
Depending on the passive abilities, you could put one in to stack defenses you wouldn't normally be able to? I guess it depends on how much you grind out the levels. If you finish on the low end of the spectrum an extra ability point could still be very handy.
If anything it looks like qunari have it worse because they have a 10% defence bonus while other races have 25%. Having an extra ability to use is pretty awesome, especially early on. Remember that's it's an ability, not a skill point.

Not really. Qunari get 10% that stacks with armor. Nothing to scoff at.

The 8 mapped ability limit makes me really underwhelmed by this bonus frankly. I can't see myself caring farther in
You can always choose an extra passive ability.
An extra ability point is very strong.
It's probably a callback to tabletop RPGs, where humans often get a bonus feat. I don't play humans in PnP RPGs, but I've definitely considered it once or twice, solely because bonus feats are incredibly powerful. Munchkin-y builds tend to assume you're human right out of the gate.
In most cases that might be true here, but it seems to me that it'd be easier to munchkin a tank build by picking Qunari.
