Apart from the racial bonuses posted on the DAI website, has BioWare stated whether or not each race will have unique base stats ala DAO?

This is how I would do it...
+10 bonus attributes to all races with a base of 10 for every race.
Qunari: +6 Strength +4 Willpower
Elves: +4 Dexterity +4 Magic +2 Willpower
Dwarves: +4 Strength +6 Constitution
Humans: +2 Strength +2 Magic +4 Cunning +2 Constitution
Sounds about right, though I think Qunari would have constitution rather than willpower, given they used to have a health bonus.

If Im not mistaken, the health bonus was replaced with a +10 melee defense, which I'm not too fond of. In DAO and DAII, defense represented your PC's ability to avoid or dodge an attack. I'm curious as to whether that is still the case in DAI because attack avoidance isn't really all that important for a warrior tank, for example, who should be taking hits instead of trying to avoiding them.

I went with the Willpower because of the tenacity associated with Qun. Even the Tal-Vashoth conform to their role as rebels. And I wanted to give every race some level of malleability. Since Dwarves can't be mages they're the exception (even their Rogues are bruisers). Constitution for the Qunari works too though.

I wouldn't underestimate +10 melee defense. If it stacks with armor (which it probably does) that's one hell of a defensive bonus.

Hopefully we can get an answer from BW on this.

I don't think there'll be any. It tends to skew the races toward particular classes.

So long as each attribute has at least some benefit that is universal for all classes, it shouldn't be a huge problem... Elves in DA:O had magic and willpower bonuses, but they did just fine as warriors and rogues. It's more useful for adding flavor to the races than anything else, since small bonuses like this will become largely irrelevant once we've gained a few levels. Well... if we're talking about 10 points it might mean a bit more. In DA:O, they only gave out 4 per race.

Spoiler
I think Dwarves could do with a little less in constitution and gain a bonus in cunning, this is the likeliest shady default race by way of their culture, and even those we've seen on the surface tend to hold true to a kind of natural guile? We've see the majority of dwarves as crafty if not wholesale conniving. They are probably the most opportunistic race out of the 4 as a whole.
I'd probably put humans as +2, +2, +0, +2, +2, +2.
and Dwarves as +2, +0, +0, +0, +4, +4

Especially since the dwarf pc is a member of the carta. A cunning bonus wouldn't be out of place.

i forgot how big the stat bonuses were. but i agree, after a while the bonus stats from certain events and equipment more than out stripped the relevence of racial modifiers.

I hope we have stats at all. I thought i heard some where that there wouldn't be ability scores this time around, but i can't yet see how the human bonus would work if there weren't.

? Isn't the human bonus just an extra skill?

The website says they get a bonus ability point at the start of the game.

Yeah an extra skill and considering we have a 8 skill limit that might be more of a hindrance than a boon in the end.

Extra point for Passive, Sustained, or Upgrade. You don't have to buy a ninth Activated ability.

Might not necessarily be able to get the passive sustained or upgrade without having to get another activated (i'm basing this off how DAO and DA2 pretty much forced you to get filler abilities to get the crap you actually wanted though).

The min/maxer in me will not settle for losing even two or three skill points to an ill suited race/class combo. Should I seek some professional help? ![]()

I prescribe 1 session of D&D or Pathfinder a week.

My first reaction to Dark Knight's post was "I'd never roll an elf rogue, then!" ...and then I took a deep breath and remembered A) I'm just playing for fun and racials don't need to be obsessed over and B ) I'm not planning on playing an elf anyway.
In a purely selfish sense, I hope the final racials for dwarves and qunari are awesome.

So? You still get more flexibility and more skills.
