In Dragon Age: Origins you didn't unlock your specializations til you leveled up a bit. I'm wondering if it's gonna be the same deal here. Knight Enchanter sounds wicked awesome, but I'm not a fan of playing Mages, so I'd rather not have to play as a cloth wearing, staff wielding Mage for the first half of the game.
Do we choose our Specialization for our class at the beginning, or does that come later?

You get the specialization once you complete certain quests given by the people who teach specs. So it won't be at the start.

...but it sounds like you will not have to do half the game.

Do we know if this is for all of the specializations, or just some that have a more direct lore tie in? I remember in DA:O how certain specializations (Blood mage, arcane warrior, duelist) had little mini quests or specific plot choices associated with them, but many of them just had manuals that you could buy in shops. I'm hoping that the reduced number of specializations this time around means that each one will have a very unique flavor and story associated with it.
Also, i'd kinda like to see some more items that are meant for characters of specific specializations, like spellweaver in DA:O, or one of the handful of unique staves in DA:II that improved blood magic.

Ugh it'd be awesome if our companions could teach us the specs (Vivi KE, Solas rift, Dorian necro, Bull Reaver, Blackwall Champion, Cass templar so on).
Oh well.

I like this scheme, it makes sense for me. I hope it's not a mission like "collect 5 bones to unlock necromancer"

Yeah, Necromancer shoulld require at least a full skeleton.
Fortunately you'll run into many enemies with them.

I hope the quests for specs actually have some meaning. Things like getting Reaver back in Origins. Except without being able to go back and reload and still have it unlocked without having to take the "evil" path.

I can certainly see where you're coming from, but what if some of our companions are available at the second half of the game?
Regardless of how we learn our specialization, i would like it to be early on. Around 5-7 level i guess.

Didn't the devs say we'd pick all the companions up earlierish?
Picking up companions in the last half of the game is pretty stupid anyway because you hardly get any time to know them. (Looking at you Oghren and Legion).

I think it was said that specializations would not be learned from companions this time around. I'm not sure where it was. The one thing that worries me is having to side with certain factions to unlock some of the specs. Like we have to side with the Templars to unlock that spec or something like that. Although we do have some former Templars in our army thanks to Cullen...
I have to wonder just where we'll pick up the Reaver and Tempest specs. They are a little out there. I guess the Rift mage will be learned from a spirit while we undergo a dream journey or something like that.
Possibly a companion could point to the quest that will lead to a spec, but not just 'hey, teach me how to be an XYZ'.

I would like them to appear early as well, bonding is indeed greater like that.
That said, we do know that they won't teach us the specs anyway.
I'm curious to see how we learn them.

I'm going to take a wild guess is the specs will show up at the point at the game where you should be comfortable with the combat and story. Level 7 seems to be the sweet spot and we'll probably be level 7 when we get the chance to learn them.

you will only be able to choose one specialization .

My only real question is whether or not it'll be like Origins in that you only have to do the quest/objective/whatever once in order to unlock it forever, or whether or not you have to do it over and over each time you play the game... There are benefits to each, in my mind, but it'd be nice to know before I pick...
If you have to do the quests for specializations each time you play the game, I'm also concerned that, since you can only have one specialization, the quests will be mutually exclusive(meaning if you take the quest to make yourself an Assassin, the quests for the Tempest and Artificer specializations disappear because you don't need to do them anymore). If they are mutually exclusive, I hope that we'll at least be able to see what the ability trees of the three specializations contain before doing choosing a quest...
