We are talking about the next Mass Effect which is suppose to be about exploring space again. If thats that case then the music style that was used in ME1 should be used again, not the style that was used in ME3 which was a different type.

Yes it does depend on the mood and story, the new style score suited ME3 very well because as i said, the game had very little to do with space so why should it need a spacey soundtrack. The reason why i said the score fell flat was because the score and game was flat in that regard, not because they failed to be SciFi but because they didnt try to be. ME1 is my favorite game and score so there is a little chip on my shoulder when talking about how they abandoned the things in Mass Effect i loved for well, straight up action and forced drama... ( and a new score that told this same story in music )

If i put on some ME1 music everyone will know instantly its Sci Fi, because it sounds like it. If i put on ME3 most of the music is lacking that vibe. The music should be telling the same story as the one you are experiencing visually. I want the next Mass Effect to be Sci Fi, therefore i want a Sci Fi score.

That new "BSG" music has nothing on the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica theme :D

%100 agree with what you said :)

Here's how I felt when I read this:

Remembering how perfect ME1's music was when it compares to the other 2

I felt a drop of musical quality beetwen ME2 and ME3. The only explanation would be the absence of Jack Wall.

In any case I hope they go the ME1 style of music. More synth and electro vibes, less instrumental. Deep ambient music that feels like space. I agree that Sam and Jack did a wonderful job. Not liking Clint though...sorry,

Back in the day I did this poor fan video with music and images trying to give an idea of what I was missing from ME1 in the other two games. It's not perfect from a technical standpoint but I think it expresses what ME is for me. I absolutely love Solar Fields his tracks are awesome. I would love him cooperating for NME if they decide to bring fresh blood into the music department.

this is my video....watch it only if you are hardcore fans of ME1 and have some desire to relax

Good Call out.

I would like to see someone like BT (Brian Transeau) be utilized.  His music covers a lot of different genres but is primarily under the electronic/trance category.  I highly recommend his album This Binary Universe and its "spiritual sequel" If the Stars Are Eternal So Are You and I.  These are more down tempo, bordering on ambient music.

Precisely. Jack Wall has a tendency of making a lot of bland tracks but then also at least one or two really bombastic and fantastical pieces that are amazing. The combination of Sam Hulick and Jack Wall was perfect because Hulick is good at atmospheric, somber and triumphant themes, but without Jack Wall he can't blow doors wide open. The other composers, Christopher Lennerz in particular usually offers some very nice but generic-sounding themes and he never quite reaches the sense of climax that Jack did with both ME1 and ME2.

BTW: here's another one: Soundprank for ME4 plz.

Sam Hulick and Jack Wall, for sure. We know we can trust them to make an amazing Mass Effect soundtrack. Although Jack Wall had nothing to do with ME3, I really hope they can get him and Sam back together for ME4.

Sam and Jack are a must, and the others that participated in the ME1 score. The music for ME3 was great and emotional, but it fell flat overall in creating a SciFi atmosphere.. That is not necessarily the composers fault though. i don't know what they had been told to create. ME3 hardly felt like it had anything to do with space, half of that is the music and the other half is well, the locations. ME2 had a mix of both good music and bleh.

The ME1 soundtrack set the tone the best. "Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence." The music should reflect that better.

I couldn't agree with this more.  If I had to rank the trilogy's music, I would do 1, 3, 2.  It's not that the music in 2 or 3 were not as good as 1, I just felt that the music in 1 sparked the whole sci-fi setting.  When I popped the disc into my xbox back on release day and that vigil music came up on the start screen, and then the music of the character creator, my mind was racing with what I was about to experience.  Everything was just so perfect, the grainy filter in the game, the colour schemes, the architecture, music.. it all came together and created what I feel is mass effect.

The next two games had a different purpose, and different stories.  The way you experienced the stories in each game were different, and the soundtrack reflected that.  Still, I cannot shake the first game's music.  It haunts me to this day and every time I go back and play ME1 over, I'm teleported right back to that moment when I first popped in the disc.  All the hopes, and the dreams of what this universe could be.

It's true that the music that is composed should reflect the type of story, and the way the story is told in the next game.  But for me, when you say mass effect, I think of the score from the first game, and the others are.. there.

That said, when I told my brother clint was doing the music for the third game he wasn't all that impressed.  I was ecstatic and I think it turned out great.  After my brother beat the third game, he texted me and was like.. "I was wrong.  It was perfect."  And I think clint did hit it right on the mark for what ME3 was.  What would be interesting, is what could clint do for another game.. and if he has more direction and inspiration towards to the first game's score.

Again, though. that's just my opinion.  Everyone can disagree.  Can't wait though.

People can disagree with you yes, but they don't properly understand music and the purpose of a soundtrack if they do :P

The more electronic, the better. A soundtrack consisting of nothing but synthesized sounds would be ideal, in my opinion. It'd be risky, considering how narrow minded a lot of people are when it comes to this stuff, but it can without a doubt be done.

Among the composers from the previous three games, I vote for Sam Hulick, Sasha Dikicyan, and Chris Velasco. Those three in particular did an amazing job on 3 and the DLCs for 2.

Also, when will people start to understand that Mansell did like one or two tracks for 3, and not the entire soundtrack? Seriously, give the right people the credit they deserve.

The music in ME2 was the best, ME1 was also great though, so Jack Wall and co.

Jack Wall is the best. no other composer can reach that level of epicness (ME1 )

BioWare should get him again <3.

Yep, ME1 and ME2 had some of the best (if not the best) music I have ever heard in a video game. I was completely blown away by epic awesomeness.  <3

Personally i'd like Sam Hulick, Sascha Dikiciyan, Cris Velasco & Christopher Lennertz to all return. For Mass Effect has a dinstinct, iconic musical sound/style, imo you can't really dievate from that too much. Which for such a long runnning series you need that continuity, its important to the universe imo.

At the sametime i'd like to see the likes of Jon Hallur Haraldsson(the Eve Online composer, amongst other things)work on the ME4 soundtrack. I think his kinda sound/incredibly atmospheric musical style in particular woud really suit the ME universe, it has that perfect sci-fi/space vibe. He'd be a great addition to the Mass Effect soundscape imo. Also recently i was listening to the Velocity 2x Soundtrack. I was thinking its composers James Marsden & Joris De Man(of Killzone fame) would also be great additions as like Jon Hallur Haraldsson as they would add something a bit different yet would fit the universe perfectly. Futuristic & very sci-fi, not so orchestral. They'd enrich the musical escense. All three are highly talented composers imo. They've all made make some truly wonderful video games scores, the kind that actually adds to the game and makes them better. It wouldn't do ME4 any harm to have them on board.

I would be perfectly happy if Sam Hulick did all the music.
