After spending some time with me3 multiplayer I decided to back track to me2 for a bit. I had tried new game + before, which most people don't enjoy because level 30 enemies are so powerful and you have to acquire your various upgrades all over again, making higher difficulties impractical and less fun. Trying to play it on hardcore, the most fun difficulty for my taste on an ME1 import playthrough, was ridiculous. But this time around I figured I would run new game + on veteran, suppressing the feeling of being a wimp and the result is interestingly different.

Level 30 units are still very challenging on veteren, mostly in the damage they do, so you still can't charge headlong into most situations. But the basic units lack that thin but annoying layer of shields, barriers and armor they get on hardcore. This puts crowd control much more in line with defense stripping as far as how you prioritize powers, their area vs. strength evolutions, and balancing squad choices in general, without reducing mission difficulty. Instead, some parts of missions with less protected enemies will make you feel like you're tearing the place up, and when the protected enemies arrive they make a much bigger difference, as I feel it should be.

The area evolutions of powers like overload become much more practical for damaging synthetics and overheating weapons. Jack is actually worthwhile other than for squad warp ammo. You don't feel addicted to Zaeed for disruptor ammo when Shepard doesn't have it on most missions, since shields by far the most common protection on higher difficulties. And HUSKS DON'T HAVE ARMOR. Man, I hated armored husks so damn much...

Eventually to keep the difficulty stable you'll want to upgrade to hardcore, and insanity later if you liked that on a first playthrough. I'm going to turn up to hardcore some time after the disabled collector ship. I think it'll be a much more interesting mission on veteren at level 30.

I got my insanity trophy from doing a new game plus and my second time playing insanity mode.

All I did was take my time. The missions with the Scions were the worst for me

Partially, I think this may depend on class. The Adept, IMO, should find life considerably easier on  veteran with a NG+ because your primary powers are CC and the critters that can force you out of cover -- the melee critters like husks, varren, mechs -- are all unprotected. For every one else, stick to cover and you should be OK. I would think the Soldier would have it the worst, though squad cryo could help some with CC. A Sentinel might find area Throw to be somewhat lackluster as a CC power, but it should work. Engineer and Infiltrator would have cryo blast, while Vanguard could use area Pull, though I think that is kind of iffy since it could land several enemies behind you.

Ah NG+.

I agree the experience may be somewhat class dependent, but even though you are fighting level 30 enemies w/o upgrades, you still have your advanced weapon training and should be leveled into all your important skills.  This is in stark contrast to a new character or import game where you probably aren't going to max a single power until around level 8, depending on class.

Probably style has something to do with it as well.

I just always wondered what fighting enemies that don't all have protection is like, and this seemed like the best way to keep the challenge and do it differently. I don't need the hardest experience to be satisfied. Of course, in the latter part of the game it just becomes the same as a first playthrough, but whatever.

Also, though they say you keep your advanced weapon training, I never started with the upgraded weapon in new game plus. I assumed my vanguard would get his claymore from the beginning. Never happened.

What platform are you on?

Weapons are supposed to carry over (except Locust), and heavy weapons should carry over if you have the Long Service Medal.

I'm on ps3. I have the long service medal, but neither heavy weapons nor the advanced weapon training carried over. Ever.

So, I decided to fire up an NG+ to see what that was like since I have only done it once, and that was a long, long time ago.

1) Paragon and Renegade points do not carry over. You start out at 0. Might as well be a non-import ME2 game.

2) I only started out with 200k credits, not my usual 330k. So getting upgrades will be much more difficult than with an import from ME1. Might as well be a non-import ME2 game.

3) My armor was still set to the way it was in the save I imported, including the color scheme and pattern.

4) All my powers were set the way there were in the save I imported except that I had one spare point I could spend either on Concussive Shot or my bonus power.

When I finally get to the SR2 I will report in the other thread whether my weapons carried over. (xbox)

I enjoy the challenge of a NG+ insanity run.  One thing that makes life so much easier is if you can flank the enemy.  Even if you are trapped in cover they will all focus fire on Shep leaving the other 2 squad mates to do as they please.  Vanguard makes doing this so simple as does tactical cloak of an infilatrator.  Of course there are fights this won't work like Vasir battle but there are other strats for those.  Oh and this probably doesn't need to be said but certain fights/areas will keep spawning enemies until you reach a certain spot on the map like the on Grun't recruitment mission and the endless waves of Krogan.  Better to rush past them in order to stop the spawn then fight the ones remaining.
