...of the massive step up that Bioware has sought to accomplish within certain aspects of this game?

Dragon Age: Origins is one of my favorite RPG's ever, but I never played DA II because I was never shown anything prior to the game coming out that made me want to play it. The combat specifically, Hawke didn't do anything for me, and then the reviews about recycled assets left and right earned it a pass.

Now seeing the incredible environments of DA:I, all the small details, improved assets, how magic interacts in terms of combat and strategy, there's so much to be excited for again. It appears that Bioware not only made an honest effort to rectify complaints from fans in regards to both games, but they wanted to do so much more in terms of the game world and gameplay. I respect that, and I feel like I want to support the company for all their work, even if I don't know how the game itself will turn out in the end. Anybody else feel the same?

already pre-ordered - just because it's Bioware and no other company so far made games so much to my liking.

No, I'm just buying the game because it seems like a lot of fun to play. That's all.

No way will I pre-order. I was among the people that loved Origins and pre-ordered DA2 based on faith alone in BioWare. I really hated a lot about DA2 and when I saw it in the stores for $10-$20 only a couple weeks after the release I was even more upset that I paid so much more for something I ended up not liking at all.

I really would like DA:I to be good but I'll be waiting on customer reviews before I buy it.

As for the 'massive step up' as you put it there really is no way to tell if it is or isnt a massive step up yet. Every game studio hypes their product approaching release, some of it is justified and some of it is marketing speak. I'm in no big hurry to get my hands on the game so I don't mind waiting a few weeks or even a month or 2 to give customers a chance to express their over all views on it first. But fingers crossed it ends up being good.

When the game was first announced, I planned on preordering the game. And that's exactly what I did. I have preordered the deluxe edition that is paid in full.

Yep, when DA was the unnamed RPG project that was going to be a return to the old I was really hyped. Then we got DA; I liked the story and characters but the game mechanics don't do much for me. DA2 looked like an action fest so I skipped it. The thing that's bringing me back for DAI is the open world and the larger scope. If I just wanted a good story I can get it from a book.

Specifically, I think that the environments and exploration seems to be hugely improved, they are vastly different from either of the two previous games, which I think shows a lot of ambition. Apart from that, I suppose changes within the rest of the game are rather subjective, but I do see a lot of care being put into those aspects as well. Whether fans end up liking the new characters or story or whatever, we'll have to wait and see, but at this point I don't think we'll be cheated as far as content goes. For that reason I'd rather support a company for making a larger more ambitious game, when they may have gotten away with making a smaller one to save money or what have you.

Ditto on this, dissappointed with rouges and "restricted weapons style" but I hope that the decision system works this time (not like the stupid DA2 one where i had no say on anything except jokes that only varric heard)

I think most people who will buy the game, will do so simply because....they want to play the game.

I'll buy it because I love BW games and it's a franchise I greatly love. I'll probably buy it even if everyone says it sucks, just to see it for myself instead of going on other peoples word on it.

I have been waiting for DAI since i completed DA2, and preordered it the moment you could. Then the deluxe edition was announced and i cancelled my preorder and preordered the deluxe editon instead. Then the guide was announced and preordered the hardback collectors edition for that. And when DAI is released and when i finally complete it, i'll be eagerly awaiting DA4 because I love DA with all my soul

Asking on the DA:I forum will net you a bunch of skewed answers. Go to another forum and you will get more varied responses.

No, I do not intend to pre-order DA:I nor will I buy this game unless the users say that it is good. I have my own personal set of criteria which must be fulfilled.

This is in sharp contrast to the way I pre-ordered DA2 and ended up disappointed.

Being in the EU, these user reviews will come from our North American friends who have a 3-day headstart.

This game to me is BioWare's chance to prove they can still make a top-class story driven cRPGs that leave the player with a sense of accomplishment after finishing them. What I've seen so far makes me cautiously optimistic so I've decided to preorder. But if this game isn't as good as we all know BioWare games can be then I think I'm done.

I'm buying DAI because I enjoyed both DAO and DA2. I got attached to the story, world and characters. I hardly replay games after my first playthrough, yet DA always has me coming back.

No.  DA2 & ME3 hurt.  I'll wait and see and do some more research after DA:I is released before deciding whether to buy.

The world looks lavish and wonderful, but the characters and combat look more DA2 than DA:O.  For me, that is not a plus.

I was burned by DA2 and ME3 as well, but everything points to them having taken feedback from those games and applied it to DA:I and the game looks and sounds awesome. I'm buying a new console just for DA:I.

That is what they released though. They aren't going to highlight shortcomings at E3 or PAX.  Their last 3 releases had a lot of negative fan feedback post-release and a lot of pre-release hype from the company.

I would like it if DA:I was good but I will not take the word of Bioware's marketing department, or for that matter any game 'journalist' I mean DA2 had 9/10 and 10/10 scores prior to release. ME3 even put in a IGN reporter into their game over the 2 already established journalist characters they built up over the first 2 games (both of whom had significantly better voice acting).

For everyone that preordered I sincerely hope you like the game at release. However the only factors that I will consider will be those brought up by customer reviews after release.
