There is no manual for these things, so everyone has to learn the hard way.
My opinion is that if you're rage-geling on Wave 1, don't use missiles on objective rounds, and aren't checking your surroundings frequently, you aren't ready for Platinum.
So to answer the question, pugs will be pugs.

True! Platinum is full of assholes that seem to think they are ready, except they are NOT. ![]()

I don't see much team synergy these days in plat lobbies,so I mainly stick to Gold games.Playing with friends is the best bet for plat matches.

I'd like to play a bit more platinum but I don't have the half hour to waste vetting lobbies. They are ridiculously bad either player wise or boring map opponent choice.

Also, only good players can play with any gun on Platinum (their survival skills allow them to shoot pea shooters/water guns with reckless abandon!), but a lot of random-players don't have the time or patience to max/up their manifest. And also just might not realize what a jump Platinum is. You play most other shooter games, you can crank it up from the start! Not this sh_t! Without the right tools, you gon' hold that L, no matter who you are!
Simply put, one is easier than the other.

Well, go big or go home, I guess. After all, a leech on gold is still a leech- just a dumb and unambitious leech.

Here's my diatribe on the subject not that it will hit the target audience.
Why would you want to sit through half an hour of me clutching the match to earn you credits when you can actually play a lower level and earn the same amount of credits in the same amount of time? If you're not playing the game to play the game, why the **** are you even playing multiplayer? You can get two or three matches of gold or silver done in the time it takes me to solo platinum which is generally what happens and you'll have more fun doing it. I don't understand people leeching for imaginary credits to buy imaginary weapons.

Ha, it wasn't always like this, but now it largely is.
Speaking for personal experience, I saw little point playing platinum pugs after I maxed my manifest.

Well, today was my first Platinum game, and after a mere 47 hours of total multi-player playtime...
I extracted
Woooooo
I was expecting a bunch of clueless mongrels who should be on Bronze to be playing, but not the case. At all.
Mine was a very organized squad, who mostly stuck together. Though, there was one player who refused to stay with us, but he was actually very good, and when things ran south for him he would join us.
Was quite fun, we made a full extraction and it was of course very profitable.
I suppose I just got lucky to be on such a good squad. I have had worse Gold games than this.
Not doing it again for a very long time, though.

Because of the boss spam on Platinum, you need different tactics than you do on Gold.
On the plus side, Platinum allows you to do stuff like get multiple power combo detonations off a boss. You wouldn't be able to do that on Gold because you would've killed the mook(s) long before the 2nd or 3rd combo.
