I'm just looking for an explanation for this. I remember clearly how Sten decapitated her after she decided to turn on my evil warden.
What's the point of having decisions when apparently they don't matter? ![]()

Andraste's ashes are pretty miraculous.

Even to someone who has been decapitated? Plus I defiled the ashes so they shouldn't work anymore, anyway...

I'm pretty sure the legend goes that the cure any ailment. The only real question is whether they gave her head a new body, or her body a new head. Or did you just make it worse and now there are two Lelianas running around?

Guardian kept some in his back pocket, some was on the floor, desecration didn't work...all possibilities...
You left her for dead. Sure you may say "I chopped her head off." But you need to realize you can use a random death blow animation and call that your canon.

But I killed the guardian just before defiling the ashes (I refused to take my armor off before passing the flame, so he attacked me).

I'm not quite sure what you mean?
She died, I could see her BONES on the ground when I looted her decapitated corpse, even my codex entry said that "You were forced to kill her", and now she is back in DA2 like nothing happened. This is my problem. I only want a(n) (official) reason for this...
Lyrium. When you take Leliana and Oghren to the temple, Oghren tells her that the lyrium veins in the walls are richer and purer than any he's sensed in a while and speculates that they might be altering the temple and everything with in it.
Lyrium in it's pure form is dangerous to humans and elves and one of the damage it does is dementia. Symptoms of dementia include delusions and memory distortions.
Your warden thinks he sees Leliana die and in his rage his mind creates a very gory death, decapitation. (Decapitations are just fancy kill moves, so they are not always seen as cannon). Oghren also claims that the Warden doesn't really double check his kills, so satisfied with the beheading, the Warden heads off, leaving Leliana on the ground, near death (probably had a hidden Feign Death skill, that sneaky sneak).
Then she crawls and heals herself with the Ashes. Or a spirit comes and patches her up. Or an infiltrating cultist who hid behind the curtains came out and saved her. Or some cheeky writer from Bioware popped in.

You know what? I actually kind of like that. Very far fetched, but better than what we got...
I'll be sure to confirm the kill in Inquistion, if I ever get the chance...
Cuz she is one of Gaider's fav characters. Why would you kill her anyway you big meanie.
Because they decided they needed a Liara.
They got one.

It's my evil female warden! It was even more evil because I had romanced her. It was quite romantic to see her head chopped off in front of the Ashes, in a weird and twisted kind of way.

Damn you are worse than Ramsay Snow ![]()

I actually kind of based the character around a female version of Ramsey Snow! Playing evil is actually very fun in DAO ![]()
Aggressive Hawke just isn't the same as the silent psycho Warden, haha ![]()

Officially, they said there would be an explanation given... at some point. Presumably in DA:I.
I'd be nice to think they had a logical explanation planned for this all along. But realistically I don't expect it to be anything other a retroactive excuse to cover a retcon. And probably no better than the explanations provided above.
There is no way they can re make inquisition now. Leliana is a big part of the game. I don't know what to tell ya bud. You drew the short stick on continuity for your warden.

Basically this. You can try to come up with all sorts of explanations (you can choose between the Maker's will! and magic!) but it boils down to being a retcon because after DAO was long finished they got a nice idea for Leliana in future games.
Hopefully from now on if they insist on bringing a character back in a later installment they won't make said character killable.
It's an even bigger retcon with Anders if you give him over to the Templars in Awakening.

I just would've liked it if her death would've been more unclear, like Morrigan's death in Witch Hunt. But I guess they didn't plan on having Leliana do anything THAT major when they were making Origins, so I guess that explains it... She wasn't a main character by any means (Certainly not on the same level as Alistair or Morrigan).
Still, they could've just created a new character that was important, knowing that many people killed Leliana in Origins. But I guess bringing back a familiar face brings in more fans.
You can't please everyone, but I think BioWare pleased the majority of people by giving Leliana a significant role in Inquisiton. I'm just sad I'm in the minority. ![]()

But there his death isn't actually shown, as far as I know. And he was known for being able to escape Circle Towers so it would be very believable that he got away from the templars.

I'm sure their explanation will be different, but I'm kind of wondering if they'll explain it that she's like Cole - a spirit that imprinted itself on a human being, rather than on a human ideal or emotion like Faith or Pride or Love or Desire. She could be some kind of fake-Leliana, mimicking Leliana's life. They wouldn't need more than a few lines of dialogue, maybe with Cole in the room, and it work with the canon.

Isn't he still a Grey Warden in DA2 that way though? I think that might be what congokong was referring to.
Well, this is my two-cents of "woulda-shoulda-coulda" moments here. I think we're jumping the gun a little here, seeing as the game's not out yet.....and MORE importantly, neither is the "Keep". So for the sake of argument, let's say these trailers are canon, then I whole heartily agree with you in your choices from past games being forwarded to this new one.
I feel, that when we load our decisions from past games into the Keep, the story line should revolve around those choices, and that should be the new canon for (each individuals) the game....as a whole. Sadly, I don't think this will be the case, as the writing team for the game would have to have put in some SERIOUS overtime to accommodate all the choices from the previous games.....and the DLCs, if they were used........WHEW, now that would be a feat!!!!
Personally, I hope the Keep respects our choices from previous games, and adds, or loses characters depending on OUR decisions.....we'll find out for sure come November.....fingers crossed, hehehe!!!!
It is due to a combination of Quentin's early research and Lazarus project dry run. It was all hush hush, very need to know which none of us fan base types needed to know.
