First time posting but I can assume without even looking that this question has been asked a hundred times and sorry in advance for that... My first playthrough involved my rogue Hawke romancing Anders. Without ever having played Awakenings yet I ended up preferring him over Fenris cause the guy just seemed like such a dick (especially considering my first character in DA origins was a mage). It was a bit typical and meh imo as far as the romance story went, but I wasn't particularly surprised since my original experience with that element of the game in Origins involved me romancing Zevren as a male as well... And that over all seemed pretty meh too.

What's keeping me conflicted is the ending with Anders. I loved it! My Hawke has faith in this guy and is whole heartedly prepared to give all he can towards the whole possessed demon issue his lover has... But ends up having to kill him after a horrifying act of terrorism and a realization that Anders can not be saved. He has to be put down. So very tragic, and I absolutely loved it!

With DA3 around the corner I am at the end of replaying DA Origins as female noble, I just can't condemn that poor, hilarious bastard Alistair to that alternative queen of b*tches this time around, and look forward to seeing him shacked up and with a kid living happily in DA3...Hopefully. Now with my second playthrough of DA2 coming up after Awakenings, I've been stuck on wondering; Anders or Fenris for my official storyline?

It would be nice to see Hawke in DA3 shacked up and happy with Fenris, assuming thats how things will be. But... that ending with Anders... ><

To each their own. I'd suggest you to try both romances and choose for yourself. It's your game and your Hawke, after all.

Go for the angst! Happy endings are for wimps! :-)

Not that I think you're 'happily ever afters' with Alistair and Fenris will actually pan out the way you're hoping, but even so. I'm a sucker for drama.

Seeming as the keep only transfers character, not choice, what i'd do is romance fenris when you play the game, as youve not done it. Then you can decide which you'd prefer and put it in to the keep for DAI

I enjoyed the Fenris romance more. It was... steamier in my opinion. Just remember to never sleep with anyone else before or after him, including the three-year period of painful celibacy (you'll see what I mean).

I have romanced Janders a couple of times, but I don't kill him if I romance him. My Hawkes are unable to kill their lover, no matter how screwed up he is. If you have a save prior to killing Janders, you might want to replay and let him live just to see how their "romantic" ending plays out (both siding with the mages and the templars). Both are different and a bit depressing, particularly siding with the Templars. Even siding with the Mages doesn't give you that great of an ending with him, although I suppose it is "happier." It just seems that romance was never really supposed to have a happily ever after.

Did you friendmance or rivalmance Anders?  Maybe you could try the opposite for your second playthrough and/or switch up the gender.

Also, it is possible to have a relatively happy ending with Anders...as long as you can get over the whole mass murder thing.  I managed it in my first playthrough.

I always like having a rivalmance with my romance partners. Something about that was hot. And it just made since to have a rivalmance with Fenris as a mage, and with Anders as a pro-Templar rogue. I'm weird though lol. Anyway.

As to a choice between the two? I usually end up in the same dilemma. In the end I do one play through where I romance 1 and then the other in the second one. But that doesn't stop me from at least sleeping with both of them (yes, my Hawke's are always hussies lol). I mostly do this for the awesome party banter between the two, and then I might (or might not) throw Isabela's one night stand in there too because again, party banter lol.

I use to kill Anders in almost every playthrough I did unless I romanced him. Why? Because by that point his whining and homicidal tendencies just annoyed me. But then I made the mistake of trying to romance Sebastian... So disappointed was I in that relationship that now Anders lives every time just to tick off Sebastian

A complete Fenris romance is very poorly done; especially on rivalry.

"We're not exactly friends, Fenris."

--- A few sentences later

"Nothing could be worse than the thought of living without you."

My characters that have romanced him did it in Act 2 and after he dumps you move on to someone else. The whole "not discussing their night together for 3 years and then suddenly jump into a relationship" is stupid.

...So.... in your case you might want to romance Fenris first, get dumped, and then move onto Anders; the best of both worlds.
