Anders was a mainstay in my party through both Awakenings and DA II.  Despite being a frequent party member, I generally disliked him in regards to personality on a personal level.

While I disliked Anders as a character, I really liked his character arc though and thought that the final moments in DA 2 were some of the most resonating moments of the game.  It was one moment in the course of the games that I truly felt vindicated in my choice.

So ultimately for me, I would say that I'd view Anders as unlike-able yet engaging.

I've seen people claim that the cutscene of Ander's bombing only shows Templars and Elthina in the Chantry. This is not true. There is at least one other person there who is neither, probably a Sister.

There are 2 Templars out in front of the Chantry. 1 on the platform with Elthina and 5 more on the the main floor of the Chantry. That's all the people I actually saw in the Chantry. However, there were surely other people there the sisters and brothers that I'm pretty sure live there on the upper floors.

I disliked Anders in Awakening almost as much as DA2. Only because he's a bit like Jowan, in trying to get you to do his dirty work. I also don't like Bioware's chummy characters in general. Alistair and Anders to be exact. They're trying too hard to be funny.

Although to be fair, Anders was at least better trying to be funny than being constantly distressed in DA2.

Both used humor as a coping mechanism for things in their lives that had been done too them.. After all, Anders was put in solitary confinement for a year because he escaped the cricle for his sixth time when that happened. That messes with your head pretty badly to a point you start seeing things that aren't their like the cat he mentioned that kept him company.

Tbh..It's just a dislike for this type of David Gaider character. Rhys was similar in Asunder.

Gaider wears many hats though, so this is just one type of character I don't like. I find Shale and HK-47 to be funniest things he's done. But they're not funny in the same way. They're both kind of sadistic.

What ever floats your boat, I guess. The only one I disliked humor wise was Orghen mostly because they went overboard with him.

I like him, but maybe they did go a bit overboard.

At the same time, I find him realistic actually. He reminds me of deadbeat, but lovable drunks I've known. People with great qualities, but often their own worst enemy.

Ironically I like Awakening Anders. There was just something about him that I liked. But yeah, in an general sense, I agree. This particular type of characters that Gaider writes ****** me off. Alistair annoyed me to no end with all the complaining, while I personally thought Rhys was an spineless wimp with no backbone whatsoever.

Rhys is probably my most disliked character in any of the books or games.  The fact that most people seem to fall for his schtick is puzzling.

I loved Awakening Anders. DA2 Anders had a few good points but his personality was too annoying and he couldn't do anything without mentioning how super oppressed he is.

Liked him in Awakening, though I cannot stand him in DA2. Between his constant 'whining' about mage oppression and irritating comments about other companions, there's nothing about him that I like. Not to mention he kinda looks like a greasy weasel.

Meh. Mage rights is a pretty good thing to "whine" about. I don't begrudge him for that. It's not even like he's championing a cause that doesn't affect him directly.

i used to like him a lot in awakening (Really, one of the coolest companions available even reminded me of Alistair)
As of dragon age 2,he seemed really, but really weird i was hopeful of getting some pint of humor from him but he seemed so lifeless and annoying with this mage-templar-chantry bullshit and Justice/Vengeance
i could ignore that in the first two chapters because i still liked him but in the end it was one of my biggest disappointments that a video game character could give me..i mean..Anders..what have you become?

I agree that he has a legitimate reason to fight. It's just that he's so damn unreasonable about it.

edit: To be fair, it's Justice that's truly unreasonable. Even Anders admits that he's worse off.

Actually Justice is perhaps too unreasonable. Even outside Anders he is like "kill the guilty now! Immediate Justice". That attitude cannot work in the waking world.

I don't understand your post.  Do you mean he's perhaps too unreasonable?  Because "Kill the guilty now!  Immediate Justice." isn't a 'reasonable attitude'.  As you say, it cannot work in the waking world.
