She's the only one I can honestly say I have no problem with. She's seems like the loyal sort, and will go to the ends of Thedas for those she cares about.

While I'll admit she doesn't really jump out as a character in her own right (she's just a bit of a bland 'honourable good guy' type), she is remarkable for several reasons:
1) She is a major companion who will actively turn down a romantic relationship with Hawke,
2) Her conversations with Isabela about female empowerment are dynamite.
These things alone make her awesome.
Aside from that, I find her rise through the ranks to be rather unbelievable. One year from guard to guard captain? I know she was responsible for exposing the corruption of the previous one, but were the Kirkwall guards really all so incompetent that there wasn't a more deserving one among their ranks - someone who had more than a single year of service under their belt?
Then again, judging by the rampant criminal gangs in Kirkwall, maybe not...
I really liked Aveline! full friendship and everything. I got her to be guard captain and marry Donnic. I hope to see her in DA:I or at least know what happened to her and donnic
Let me put it this way... I tend not to agree with her very much, but were I a guard under her command, I would fight hard!! I respect the hell out of her.
Last one, I promise
Hey, I'm enjoying these! Gives me a chance to vent all my opinions!
As for Aveline, I went in to DA2 thinking she'd be my least favorite of the companions, but she actually ended up near the top. She can be a little standoffish sometimes, but she's loyal, honorable, an excellent friend (or rival...both paths are quite good for her). Her personal story was entertaining, and I liked her approach to the word of the law. I also enjoyed how just having her around changed up the context of several missions, since it gave more insight into why the city guards were or weren't involved in a lot of the happenings in Kirkwall.
Yes.
Yes. She's a one woman battering ram. She kick's a**.
Generally, shes always in my team with Isabela, because those banters crack me up all the time, especially once aveline is married.
Even though its not a 'full' romance, I really enjoyed romancing her, especially if she marries Donnic. She gives Hawke a kiss that says everything: Thanks for helping, and for being such a friend, even though you clearly have feelings for me.
My canon Hawke romances Isabela, but if Aveline was a full romance option, she would be the one i'd pick.
She's a badass character who is also dependable. Anything I may not like about her character are greatly outweighed by the things that I do.
For the most part, yes... she's a bit self-righteous and I don't like gaining rivalry when I ask for payment in exchange for hunting bandits or w/e, but she's one of the most solid, sensible, and dependable allies in the game. Even when I'm also playing as a sword and shield warrior, I still try to incorporate her into the party. Aveline is definitely among my favorite companions.

To be fair, she doesn't outright turn down Hawke, she just seems to be oblivious to Hawke's flirting.
Her and Varric are my favourite companions in DA2.
This.
I find that she has some issues with casual racism, but am mostly willing to overlook that. I find her to be a stalwart friend and ally, I just wish we could call her on a few more things (and the things that I care about aren't covered by rivalry). I have to ding points for wanting to support the templars in The Last Straw, though.

In a weird way, this is actually part of what I like about her. What with all the attempts by both the story and players to sort of impose certain worldviews, the fact that Aveline is prejudiced against certain groups without making those prejudices into a soapbox at every opportunity actually makes her feel like more typical and "real" for the setting.
I find her a stalwart ally and honorable fighter. I don't dislike her, I just don't have any real use for her (in my party).
In a group full of companions that have shady allegiances (except for Varric), its nice to have one that is completely loyal. She may not agree with all the choices I make but understands I try to do good for a city she is sworn to defend. She thinks I can be better and pushes me to at least try. In truth I can't think of anything at the top of my head that I dislike.
Her obliviousness to Hawke's flirting and her awkwardness when trying to romance Donnic are hilarious and endearing, making her very down to earth imo. In truth out of all the over the top companions you have she seems very "real"

I got the impression her promotion was because Seneschal Bran cared about PR, and only PR, and couldn't care less about the guard functioned so long as it looked good. In Aveline's case he just got lucky and it happened to be a good decision in its own right.
(The guard itself feels a little anachronistic to me - more like a modern police force than a medieval watch. But that kind of film noir anachronism is very much a part of DA2's aesthetic.)
I like her. For all her dislike of her father's sense of Orlesian nobility, she has a code of honour that's more truly noble in itself.
She reminded me weirdly of the lamplighter in Le Petit Prince. He has a task to do - it doesn't matter that the task is increasingly impossible, that it's largely pointless, and that none will notice, it's his duty. And there's something strangely, poetically beautiful about that kind of quiet devotion to duty.
I love Aveline. She is my garrus of DA2. I like her comebacks and snippets towards the other companions and will say things that many don't have the balls to say. Also I like that she found her LI and it wasn't the protagonist. Independent woman through and through.
Strong, resourceful, reasonably smart, loyal, honourable, and most importantly, sane. What's not to like? She would have been my go to love interest if the option had been there, not the pack of fruitcakes on offer.
Well, she's the world's worst detective and partially responsible for Leandra's death, so there's that not to like.

Hard to blame her for that. All of Kirkwall, including Hawke, took stupid pills on that one.

It was Aveline's job. And once Aveline stopped keeping Hawke out of the loop, Hawke was never stupid about it. Aveline was just completely idiotic.

Can't the same be said about Hawke? You're the nominated Champion, it's your duty to serve as Kirkwall protector, and Hawke fails at that spectacularly when you fail to stop Anders from bombing the Chantry and launching the city into an state of chaotic hysteria.

Her response to Hawke blaming her was awesome. Made Hawke look like a child.
