Um can you explain to me how you can get through all the mother mature themes of the games but profanity is the big no no?

Just curious

Only my opinion, but I have no real issues with Mature themes such as the Broodmother reveal which was designed in a mature manner. My Gore settings are low/ off, as the excessive blood looks too much like one of the Slasher films I loathe. And I attempt to handle the romances as a mature adult, so many possible problems are avoided there.

But I enjoy the dialogue and stories, and personally desire to avoid profanity. This is more difficult, as one has no such setting, slider, or foreknowledge as what to skip. It is a factor as to why I pass on some popular series, films, and games. Bioware has a fairly good record thus far, but hearing more vulgarity in more recent games is somewhat disappointing for me.

As a seven year member of Military service, it is not my ears that concern me, but simply prefer mature themes to sound mature, and less like a Jr HS locker room.

Again, my own opinion.

Nudity, huh? Seems like BW/EA have finally gotten over the whole Mass Effect side-boob controversy; they got really timid after that. Good to see them pushing the envelope a bit.

Edit: *Mass Effect side-boob manufactured controversy over nothing.

Strong language as opposed to just language

Intense violence as opposed to just violence

Nudity as opposed to partial nudity

Looks like we have a more graphic experience this time, if just a bit more

Am mostly concerned with the mention of Strong Language; the reason I passed on ME3 for so long. Friends tipped me off to avoiding Vega and most profanity, and learned not to invite Jack or Zaeed to the Citadel DLC party. Currently, the only one that has concerned me is Sera, but will again see from the game itself.

Ah, so you aren't fond of cursing. That's understandable.

I figure Sera and Iron Bull are most likely the two most likely suspects.

So perhaps if you avoided those two, you would be mostly spared.

Wow nudity I hope it is well implemented

Yeah, we get the broodmother again and maybe something like The Mother if we're lucky because her first rack of boobs are actually alright, second are meh and third are urgh! Don't get me started on the rest.

Jesus, this is why I loved Origins. There were some creepy-as-hell monsters in the game. Inquisition looks like it'll have a few too.

I don't really see what's wrong with requesting men also be nude if women are. I always thought it was ridiculous in Witcher 2 where Geralt has sex with pants on. Like, I don't even care about seeing all the naughty bits in a video game (I think clever camera angles is better, like in Mass Effect 1), but if you're gonna show one gender, show the other.

Who cares? Nudity, violence, etc. doesn't make a game mature or immature. Plenty of games have those things and feel like they have been written by 5 year olds. The fact that Witcher series (for example) shows more breasts and objectifies women in a way DA hasn't doesn't make the game more mature (arguably the opposite).

Stop. DA should strive to compete with the Witcher's level of maturity. This objectification/misogyny argument is getting older than a nursing home. Saskia and Phillipa.

While I agree..I really think you should go no further with that. What with the Gamergate nonsense going about.

I didn't even want to see Geralt naked, but the difference was pretty noticeable.

And then I hear people go on about how mature The Witcher is for handling sex so well  -_-

I always felt the Witcher 2 gets a lot of credit for doing things well that it didn't actually do very well at all.

Never understood this either; certain bits are more naughty than others according to the 1950's. The human body is taboo, yet ripping off people's heads and slaughtering countless beings on screen its totally okay. We have our priorities backwards I think lol.

The point is that sex and nudity and violence isn't what makes something "mature". It's how the content is handled and the themes within that makes something mature. There are works that have none of these things that I would still consider to be mature subject matter, and there are works with all of these things that are incredibly immature.

And for all the praise that the Witcher gets for being mature, there's still some things that are incredibly silly, like Geralt's pants sex that I mentioned before. Or the sex trading cards. I don't think either of those things are "mature", but rather stuff that teenage boys would think of.

I'm pretty doubtful on the likelihood of seeing the D, though the A is pretty likely. I think we'll see the good old fashioned T&A, from both male and female NPCs.

It's odd, yeah. Here in America you can show the most Brutal Violence ever....yet go near sex Everyone goes nuts. And Oddly enough it is the other way around in Europe.

liking Total War games on the Paradox forum is a crime punishable by death

The sentiment here is slightly less hostile, but I've even noticed tensions between the ME/DA fanbases despite their significant overlap

I hope there's some proper nude-scenes.  Not just for my own enjoyment, but also to watch as people lose their minds.

LOL. It's like FOX news level of hypocrisy. People aren't saying the Witcher 2 is great for the secks and bewbs. It's great because the handling of the writing and the politics and factions are deep enough to give George RR Martin a headache. But again certain oversensitive people tether to a single aspect (that has actually improved since the first Witcher) of the entire series to cry foul in defense of some social agenda or another.

It's really not fair to judge something like that.

And the devs came out and said that they were aiming for something different than what the fanbase took it as

actually not the fanbase, people with a passing knowledge and an axe to grind

If anything, most Dragon Age fans are either apathetic about the Witcher, or are fans themselves. The ones who dislike Witcher usually have intelligent arguments for their dislike (you may disagree with them, which is fine, but they're still valid arguments with thought put behind them). Even the ones who like the Witcher are able to stand back and acknowledge the flaws in the games while still enjoying them.

Witcher fans, however, have a very vocal number that feel the need to bash Dragon Age at every opportunity, with little to no actual intelligent arguments...honestly I think the thing holding me back from enjoying Witcher as much as I would is the fact that its fanbase turns me off. Same with Dark Souls; I think I'd like that game more if it didn't have fans that were incredibly elitist and refuse to acknowledge any flaws.

Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite game, and I can still step back and see that it's not perfect.
