If anything, most Dragon Age fans are either apathetic about the Witcher, or are fans themselves. The ones who dislike Witcher usually have intelligent arguments for their dislike (you may disagree with them, which is fine, but they're still valid arguments with thought put behind them). Even the ones who like the Witcher are able to stand back and acknowledge the flaws in the games while still enjoying them.

Witcher fans, however, have a very vocal number that feel the need to bash Dragon Age at every opportunity, with little to no actual intelligent arguments...honestly I think the thing holding me back from enjoying Witcher as much as I would is the fact that its fanbase turns me off. Same with Dark Souls; I think I'd like that game more if it didn't have fans that were incredibly elitist and refuse to acknowledge any flaws.

Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite game, and I can still step back and see that it's not perfect.

For every Witcher fan I've seen saying "DA isn't that hot" I see a dozen on here saying "The Witcher is a step above Judas, Brutus, and Cassius because I can't play a woman"

liking Total War games on the Paradox forum is a crime punishable by death

The sentiment here is slightly less hostile, but I've even noticed tensions between the ME/DA fanbases despite their significant overlap

What's really funny it's watching the COD and Battlefield guys go at each other. And then the Halo fans enter the discussion.

Regarding Romance Scenes...

From this interview with Gamerzines:

http://www.gamerzine...ew-talking.html

One of the things BioWare RPGs are known for is their romance scenes, particularly the PG-13 camera angles and the soft focus Cinemax style approach. Has that changed at all?

We certainly could push those romance scenes in any direction we wanted really. Something that didn’t work well is that we tried more, well I won’t say graphic, but in Dragon Age: Origins we had characters crawling around in their underwear and it looked weird because they were wearing these lacy Victoria Secret panties and outfits which looked out of place. Certainly when you have these characters interacting with each other in such an intimate way it’s incredibly expensive in terms of animation fidelity and getting it to look like they are really there and touching each other. I think Mass Effect’s scenes were done really well and I think we will take Inquisition’s scenes in that direction. You might have a nude character but they are framed in such a way that parts of them are in shadow, or having characters in various states of undress.

We also want to focus not just on the sex itself, but also that this is the culmination of spending a lot of time with a character and getting to know them, and so we’re giving scenes a mature and tasteful treatment I guess. We’ll see where it goes for Dragon Age: Inquisition, it’s something that we’re working on right now so we’ll see how these scenes pan out.

fine with me as long as they're not prolonged or awkward and I don't get ironballs shoved in my  face

I agree, a lot of what DA fans said are just backlash at the Witcher. Go to any DA videos on youtube, I can guarantee some brats yelling about how DA sucks and how much better Witcher is. Fans can really ruin a series for me. I would have enjoyed the Witcher if the fans aren't as obnoxious as they are. The fact of the matter is: Witcher is not some hippie games no one heard about and you are not some teenagers who want to be cool and different for liking indie songs.

I wonder if the more "intense" versions of previous ratings mean we'll actually see more gore, more strong language and more nudity or if it's just esrb being strict and labelling it that anyway. IN any case, I think it's only fair if they were to flaunt a female character's breasts, which i don't think Bioware would do in general, just hypothetically saying that there should be more explicit male nudity in that case just for an equilibrium, like someone else said, it was weird how Geralt would wake up slightly clothed next to a completely naked gal.

I suspect there will be butt shots of Dorian and Iron Bull.

LOL. It's like FOX news level of hypocrisy. People aren't saying the Witcher 2 is great for the secks and bewbs. It's great because the handling of the writing and the politics and factions are deep enough to give George RR Martin a headache. But again certain oversensitive people tether to a single aspect (that has actually improved since the first Witcher) of the entire series to cry foul in defense of some social agenda or another.

It's really not fair to judge something like that.

I think it's still a valid criticism, since Witcher 2 does still have a lot of misogyny. I'm not arguing that Witcher isn't mature as a whole; I do appreciate the mature subjects in the writing. But when most people say Witcher is "mature", they usually don't talk about that stuff; they talk about the (female) nudity and violence, which is stuff that kids think is "mature".

In my opinion, Dragon Age is also maturely written, and also has some dumb stuff. I'm in no way saying that Dragon Age is objectively better, or that I think the Witcher sucks (because I don't—I just have a hard time getting into it the way I do Dragon Age).

I don't really think the games are that comparable beyond setting, honestly. Dragon Age's emphasis on party and its effect on the story puts the two in separate categories for my money. The Witcher is a more direct competitor for Skyrim than Dragon Age gameplay-wise.

Ehh I mean they literally made characters trading cards, I know it's not really fair to judge Witcher 2 off of that but come on, that's astronomically bad. I mean it's a game that's certainly handles a lot of thing maturely but holy **** when it comes to sex it's sooooo bad. Like soooo bad.

Besides saying that DA should strive to do maturity better earlier? I don't know that I'd call it bashing, but then, I haven't seen people saying the Witcher was awful in this thread, just that it didn't do some of the things its fans claim it does.

About the only rating that they do that really effects sales and devs and so on is AO can't sell games with that rating out in public. Cause its basically like an x rated movie rating.

Dragon Age hardly has an enviable record for well-implemented nudity, unless you consider the Broodmother shaking her racks at the Warden to be a good time.

Well, the only parts that crossed a non-negotiable line were the "bald" part and the "trying to wipe my party" part.

Jokes aside, this news does make me more excited for the game. (About the only way it could have gone the other way is if Bioware had somehow earned an E.)

Witcher 2 sex scenes were pretty awkward. Graphics have progressed quite a long way, but good character model interaction is still years away. Witcher 2 didn't really understand this and it ended up looking a bit like a game of twister. Mass Effect handled it pretty well by obscuring the collisions and letting your imagination do the work.

Obviously not here in the Dragon Age forums, since I'd assume the Witcher fans here also like Dragon Age, which is why they're here...but go to any Youtube video of Dragon Age and I guarantee there'll be someone saying "lol dragon age sux play witcher instead", but I've never seen anyone comment on a Witcher video that Witcher sucks and Dragon Age is better.

There's a difference between a game being misogynistic and a game set in a world where misogyny, racism, classism, ect are prevalent. People seem to have trouble distinguishing the two. Again Saskia, Phillipa, (delving into the books here) Yennefer, and Ciri are examples of strong and independent women. So for every woman that's spit on there's another standing tall.

The Witcher is undoubtedly dark fantasy, and DA has aspirations to be considered dark fantasy, they both deal with dying organizations meant to protect people, though the Witchers aren't as friendly or as well received as Grey Wardens.

The two games are fairly comparable when it comes to setting and themes.  Skyrim is high fantasy by contrast, more similar to Lord of the Rings
