No. However some companions you don't take with you if you decide to save Amaranthine instead of the keep have a chance of dying. Look at the companions section of the epilogue on the wiki for a full explanation. http://dragonage.wik...gue_(Awakening)

Yes and no, which was a major fan complaint.
It's actually vigil's keep versus Amaranthine which is the point at which companions die. If you go save the city and don't return when the keep is under attack, people left at the keep might die. If you return you companions have a better chance of sort-of living.
- Nathaniel survives alone at the keep if you did his personal mission (him meeting his sister) and fully upgraded the keep....but the codex and DA2 consider him dead. For him to appear in DA2, he must have been brought with you.
- Anders and Justice can die if left at the keep without their personal missions done or the keep upgraded, but no matter what they will always be in DA2. The in-game explanation is that they faked their death to escape the Wardens.
- Sigrun and Velanna will survive if their personal missions are done (both are glitchy and hard to trigger ad sometimes require you to restart to get) and the keep is upgraded, but their cutscenes make it sound like they're dead anyway, even if you did everything right. Both vanish into the deep roads. They have no further appearances.
- Oghren will survive if you did his personal mission (only completable at 90 approval, and his approval resets in Awakening from Origins) and the keep is upgraded, but he has no further appearances so who knows if DA2 considers him alive. Like everyone else left at the keep, the slideshow says he's alive and the codex says he's dead if you did his personal mission.
Hopefully that's clear. I know it wasn't for me! ![]()

I tend to ignore the buggy codexes and slides for followers, because there are few real consequences. The Keep will correct these bugs for DAI anyway.
As Hydwn said: Velanna, Sigrun and Oghren will always disappear, and Anders will always return in DA2. If you want Nat in DA2, take him in your party, I usually have him hanged.

So....
I'd always assumed that if you did not initially recuit Anders in Awakening, he would be conscripted or recruited later in the story. But no....I told Alistair to grant him mercy and then Anders never reappeared.
Wow...
I imagine that caused a rather large controversy when he showed up in Dragon Age II a Warden and fused with Justice, but he was unrecruited and never met Justice in Awakenings. I suppose it could have all still happened off screen...but given the relatively short amount of time that passes between the end of Awakenings and the beginning of Act I in Dragon Age II...it just feels unlikely.
