I do not drink, but I have smoked plants I have found in the forest. They were very calmig and helped me sleep. I only use these occassionally.

I do not get shocked, but I am offended by watching people abuse animals and children and those who cannot defend themselves.

Too large to post and probably best done on Word or something like that. It can be filled in the character's voice or your own. I usually only fill that out for any main character's I use in stories or canon characters in games I play

I live in a castle on a cloud - Skyhold. Its high up in the air as its name suggests and sits in the densest fog of the Frostbacks.

Resolutionist. Inquisitor. Executioner.

Not very tall but not short enough to be adorable for it. That I'm more than skin and bones after the past two years is surely incredible. Also, I have Nevarran roots and I look it.

I'm a mage. I came into my power at ten and others found out about it after I turned eleven. The discovery was nothing dramatic, really, but I let a wisp into my room. It got out and buzzed around the left wing for a bit. I hid in the greenhouse a few hours until found and questioned about it.

Escaping the circle.

I wasn't in the circle long enough to join a frat. but I'd have been a Libertarian. A Resolutionist. I say let the war come. There is no retreat to the circles now but in submission and slavery. For me - its liberty or death.

I've never had it but I suppose have as much as it as you can with whoever you want.

 

45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?

I'm perhaps too eager to kill. And, really, I dislike executions. They are unacceptable but... at this time I'll still carry them out.

Well, there is something significantly wrong with a species that trades its children for acceptance from a silent, uncaring sky god. That's what circles are at least in part about, and I'd call it evil.

Ha. No.

To live with fewer regrets than goals reached.

I have no allegiance to these monsters called human beings despite being one myself. I despise being one myself. I know what evil we truly are. My only real allegiance is to magic and mages.

I refuse to make anyone tranquil. You can guess why not.

I would die for the revolution. Other than that, I die for myself and only myself.

Right now? Cullen. Its his presence here that keeps him at the top of my shitlist and not exactly anything he says or does. He's the freshest and most constant templar face in my head. He was the Knight-Captain at the center of Kirkwall's bullshit - so of course I hate him.

I argue a lot. In the past I wouldn't have but those days are a distant memory now.

I took a stand in Ostwick - not as a leader - but on my own. I just step into roles that I care about and that need filling - leadership role or not.

I want others to know how serious I am about what I believe in. Other than that - I don't care anymore. I'm the most important person in the world right now and what I think about them is far more relevant.

I've taken up drink with greater vigor than ever before. Brandy is my weakness, yeah. And what's the point of quitting? The end of the world is nigh.

The strangest of things. Things bizarre and out of place. Things no one else finds particularly funny.

I took up the responsibility of inquisitor to do something good for mages like me. Everyone else is to think I did because Andraste wanted me to.

The circle's liberation from the Chantry. The end of the templar order. The dismantling of the Chantry.

Dead. I don't know that I'll survive closing the breach. Or that the Chantry won't hunt me down if I've done so.

A martyr. My blood would water the revolution.

I had friends at court and cousins that liked me quite well. I don't know about popular though.

Some boy from court. Don't remember his name.

I'm a mage. I came into my power at ten and others found out about after I turned eleven. The discovery was nothing dramatic really but I let a wisp into my room. It got out and buzzed around the left wing for a bit. I hid in the greenhouse all afternoon until found and questioned about it.

I'm certain my circle file has something in it about 'troublemaker'.'

When I was thrown in solitary.

I wouldn't have swallowed the Chantry's garbage for so long.

My first glass of wine late one night in the circle with my closest friend Drew. I got drunk and light headed. I think about it a lot when I get light headed climbing the mountain to Skyhold. Its not the same good feeling but similar enough to remind me.

I have no religion now and I want to rip as many people as I can from the Chantry's grip.

I wasn't in the circle long enough to join a frat. but I'd have been a Libertarian. A Resolutionist. I say let the war come. There is no retreat to the circles now but in submission and slavery. For me its liberty or death.

 

44. What are your views on sex?

I've never had it but I suppose have as much as it as you can with whoever you want.

 

45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?

I'm perhaps too eager to kill. I dislike executions. They are unacceptable but... at this time I'll still carry them out.

 

46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?

Well there is something significantly wrong with a species that trades its own children for acceptance from a silent, uncaring sky god. That's what circles are at least in part about and I'd call it evil.

Ha. No.

To live with fewer regrets than goals reached.

I don't hide my anger. Everyone gets to see that whether they want to or not.

I have no allegiance to these monsters called human beings despite being one myself - I despise being one myself. My only real allegiance is to magic and mages.

I keep most everyone at arm's length. And to do it, I'm rude. Just ask that templar Cullen. But I get along rather well with Dorian and Solas and most excellently with Cole.

I don't think I really have friends so much as I have people I am significantly more willing to speak and listen to than others.

Right now? Cullen. He's the freshest and most constant templar face in my head. Its his presence here that keeps him at the top of my shitlist and not exactly anything he says or does. He was the Knight-Captain at the center of Kirkwall's bullshit so of course I hate him.

I argue a lot. In the past I wouldn't have but those days are a distant memory now.

I took a stand in Ostwick - not as a leader - but on my own. I just step into roles that I care about and that need filling - leadership role or not.

I like to talk in front of large groups. Sway them to my opinions. Other than that you can have it.

I want others to know how serious I am about what I believe in. Other than that I don't care anymore. I'm the most important person in the world right now and what I think about them is far more relevant.

I've taken up drink with greater vigor than ever before. And what's the point of quitting? The end of the world is nigh.

The strangest of things. Things bizarre and out of place. Things no one else finds particularly funny.

I'd sing to pass the time. Its what I used to do. Or wander the gardens or greenhouse.

Not very well. I just push on, come out the other end, look back on what just happened, and wonder how I ever got through it.

Mostly spontaneous. I leave planning to my advisors and I don't always stick to what they say.

I took up the responsibility of inquisitor to do something good for mages like me. Everyone else is to think I did because Andraste wanted me to.

The circle's liberation from the Chantry. The end of the templar order. The dismantling of the Chantry.

Dead. I don't know that I'll survive closing the breach. Or that the Chantry won't hunt me down if I've done so.

So, after several hours of pondering and writing, here is my first Inquisitor. The sheet helped a lot in fleshing her out.

 

Character profile: Maelyn Trevelyan, human female mage
 

This "shot" is taken at the time immediately before the mage rebellion reaches Ostwick's Circle and Maelyn is sent as a delegate to the conference. While I have a broad idea of how those events will influence her, I can't write down any details until I have seen the events.

 

Part 1: The Basics

On Wintersend in 9:12 Dragon, in the palace of the Teyrn of Ostwick.

Mother: Sharis, ruling Teyrn. Composed, serious, with rarely shown subtle humor.
Father: Torven, economic advisor. Witty, somewhat cynical.

4-Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
Younger brother Jowan:  fiery temperament, inquisitive, loyal.  
Twin sister Tevani: determined, imperturbable. Now a military ship’s captain in Ostwick’s fleet.    
 
5-Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
I live in Ostwick’s Circle of Magi, along with many other mages and too many templars.

6-What is your occupation?
I am a mage of the Circle. I am also a scholar in magical history and lore.
 
7-Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
I am a human woman, 160cm tall, average build. Fair complexion, black hair worn in a thick braid down the back, bright green eyes. Green and gold dragon tattoo on left shoulder, palm-sized burn mark on left hip where a fire spell got out of control. Small scar across the nose from a knife fight with another mage apprentice. Practical clothing – short tunic, trousers and sandals – usually in dark colors, though white has been seen as well. Add cloak and boots while travelling.  

8-To which social class do you belong?
I am a daugther of Ostwick’s ruling family. Although I can no longer inherit or take up any place in normal society, that still influences my standing in the Circle.

9-Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
No.

10-Are you right- or left-handed?
Stronger in the left, more dextrous in the right hand. I can wield a weapon or a quill in either hand, but prefer the right.

11-What does your voice sound like?
Mellow and deeper than my size would suggest. „English“ pronunciation of words.  

12-What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
Is that so? (Nonverbal communication).
 
13-What do you have in your pockets?
I usually carry on my person some coin, a few pieces of refined lyrium and a concealed knife.

14-Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
I tend to express myself nonverbally. Raise an eyebrow = I doubt that/That needs explanation. Point a finger = making a point, and so on. I tend to omit unnecessary words. I’m told I’m laconic. I am slow to judge but equally hard to convince once I made up my mind. I tend to hold grudges.
I also have a habit of using magic for perfectly mundane tasks like lighting my candles or lanterns or heating my tea.  

Part 2: Growing Up

15-How would you describe your childhood in general?
I’m told conditions in Ostwick’s circle for a mageborn child are unexceptional. I lacked neither food nor mental stimulation. The presence of the Templars became more chafing as I grew up, though never to the point that I hated them. There weren’t any abuses even though some occasionally got too…curious.  

16-What is your earliest memory?
Being sent to the Circle at an age of four, and the event triggering it.

17-How much schooling have you had?
The life of a mage apprentice in the Circle consists of little else, so it was extensive.

18-Did you enjoy school?
Generally, very much. I always spent extra time in the library to add to the classes. I disliked the religion classes though. There was some good history therein, but generally too much about arbitrary rules supposedly handed down by the Maker. It was all about conditioning you to obedience. They likely did not intend it, but the most valuable lesson I learned was to read books carefully.  

19-Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
I learned most of what I can do and know in the Circle, obviously. Some of it was unofficial, like the weapons training offered by some Libertarians.
 
20-While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
My mother. She was competent and responsible, and always tried to do the best for her people and her family. Being a mage shouldn’t prevent me from being like her, though many Templars appear to believe otherwise.
 
21-While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
There was not much contact after I was sent to the Circle, but what contact there was was friendly. Neither my parents nor my siblings disowned me beyond the requirements of the Chantry’s law.

22-As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
In my fancier moments, a Witch of the Wilds who could transform into a dragon.

23-As a child, what were your favorite activities?
Spending time in the library reading books, preferably those I wasn’t supposed to read or those others thought I couldn’t understand. Some of them I really couldn’t understand, and I sometimes got angry over that.
 
24-As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
Curiosity. Intuitive leaps that proved to be true. I was not exactly a loner since I got along reasonably well with others, but I preferred to be alone.
 
25-As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
I had one best friend. An elf girl named Elvani. She appeared shy but proved unexpectedly active and mischievous once she trusted you. I learned from her not to get caught when breaking the rules.  
 
26-When and with whom was your first kiss?
Who is there to do such things with in a Circle but other mage apprentices? I used to meet a boy in the library at night, since we shared some interests. We became close and experimented a bit.
 
27-Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
I am not, and it was the same boy as above. Nothing permanent came of it, fortunately.

I learned of my abilities when I showed my mother what I could do – jump three meters up to a balcony at an age of four. A voice in my head said I could jump even higher if I let it control my legs, but I answered it wouldn’t be me then and I wasn’t interested.

Part 3: Past Influences

Being taken to the Circle.

My mother, and the authors of some of the books I read.

I haven’t achieved anything great yet, but I suppose keeping an independent mind in the omnipresence of religious teachings is not something anyone could do.

32-What is your greatest regret?
Of the big decisions I made, I regret none. Things that happen without my being able to influence them are not for me to regret. Anything else is minor.

33-What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
I have done things which are frowned upon, others which were unlawful and still others which were somewhat questionable, but nothing I would call evil.

34-Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
No.

35-When was the time you were the most frightened?
After they told me I narrowly avoided getting possessed without even being aware of what was happening, I was afraid of dreaming for a long time.
 
36-What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
While practising entropy magic on plant matter I made my clothing decompose and fall off in front of the whole class. To my classmates’ great disappointment, I have never been able to replicate or teach the effect.

37-If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
As I said, I would make the same major decisions again if I could live my life again. Well, maybe I wouldn’t have slept with that Templar. That caused more problems than it was worth.
 
38-What is your best memory?
When I first realized how powerful a tool reason is. It was a whole new world opening in my mind, and utterly intoxicating.
 
39-What is your worst memory?
Not too long ago, I realized how constricting my life in the Circle has really been, compared with the lives of those who can move about freely. Since then, I have had bouts of depression and even stranger dreams than usual.

Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions

Neither. I observe and try to estimate the possibilities. Sometimes they appear good, sometimes bad.  
 
41-What is your greatest fear?
Never to be able to see the world I have read so much about with my own eyes before I die. Except from books, I know nothing but my city and the ever-changing landscape of the Fade. I do not hate the Templars – within the limits of their duties, they were friendly enough – but sometimes I sit on the Circle’s highest balcony and stare into the distance, where I know places like Antiva or Minrathous exist, and dream that I could change into a dragon and fly away to see them, and meet their people. Increasingly, I feel I am a bird in a gilded cage, and being caged is anathema to a bird’s life.

42-What are your religious views?
I am non-religious. Mere assertions never indicate truth, and my ethics are my own to determine. Powerful spirits obviously exist, and some entities more powerful may exist as well deep in the unexplored realms of the Fade, our own world, and beyond, but I would recognize none of them as gods. If the gods of the stories exist, they are mostly jerks that don’t deserve to be worshipped. The power of religion is political and has no higher significance.     

43-What are your political views?
In Circle politics, I am closest to the Libertarians. I dislike the Chantry, as I would any organization that systematically falsifies history in order to further its ideology, and induces guilt in people for being what they are.
The Right of Annulment is an atrocity. There can be no right to genocide. If I speak in a soft voice about this and not in anger, that it because anger serves no purpose and at the moment I do not have the means to challenge the way things are.

44-What are your views on sex?
I like it and take my pleasure if a good opportunity presents itself. Still, it is often not wise to indulge, and I am selective. Apart from that, it is largely unimportant in the bigger scheme of things, a pleasant distraction that ultimately does not take up too much space in my thoughts.  
 
45-Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
You never know if you’re able to kill unless you have attempted it, and I never have. There are circumstances where I find it acceptable, mainly but not exclusively in cases of defending yourself or others against external threats to their life, their freedom or their mental or physical integrity.  
 
46-In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
I haven’t found any plausible evil act that is it not possible to surpass. However, making someone hate themselves is at the top of things I have witnessed.

47-Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
No.  

48-What do you believe makes a successful life?
There are many ways to a successful life. Philosophers have written whole books about it. I believe a life is successful if it has a measure of achievement and happiness. There are more ways to that than I could ever list.  
 
49-How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
I tend to be reserved but honest when I choose to be open. There are things I avoid to talk about. There are things about which I would lie to some but not to others. There are things I will likely never reveal to anyone.

Naturally. I am biased in favour of freedom at the expense of order, in favour of civilization at the expense of chaos, in favour of knowledge against ignorance, and many other things. To have an opinion means to be biased. Prejudices are opinions based on insufficient information, thus I naturally do not know if any of my opinions qualify for that. I try to avoid it.  
 
51-Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
“Under any circumstances” opens too many possibilities to make any absolute statements.
 
52-Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
I would die in order to prevent the world from becoming a place I would not want to live in. Maybe for other things, too. I will not know until I am confronted with the choice. I very much like to live though, and I would do my utmost to survive in any case.

Part 5: Relationships With Others

I tend to be reserved and polite until I know them better. I’m told getting close to me is difficult, and I like it that way. I rarely get openly angry, but when I do, it usually has an impact. I like it that way, too.  

54-Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
Well, I am, of course. As it is for anyone I suppose, though most wouldn’t admit it.

55-Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
I have a measure of respect for several people for several different reasons, but none I would single out.
 
56-Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
My best friend has been sent to another Circle. I may have some allies, but mostly , at this time, I am alone.
 
57-Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
There is no such person.

58-Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
I have. I hated it. I hate being dependent on others’ feelings towards you. I had learned mental disciplines to calm my mind in my studies, and I used those to make it go away. After that, knowing I could control it if I wanted, I became a little more open to the idea.
 
59-What do you look for in a potential lover?
I look for intelligence, a love for knowledge, and an appreciation for subtle humor and wit. I also look for physical attractiveness.
 
60-How close are you to your family?
There are limits to closeness if you’re a mage of the Circle, but I guess given the circumstances we are somewhat close. We do keep in contact.

61-Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
I will not think of starting a family until the mageborn can live free and whatever measures must be taken to prevent magical disasters are taken only by their own.
 
62-Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
My mother, probably. If I could reach her.

63-Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
That depends on the threat. Against a mob bent on killing me, I could trust the Templars, against them, I could trust some of my fellow mages. Against another mage, I would trust myself before anyone else.
 
64-If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
I do not know.
 
65-Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
I would probably name Ashkaari Koslun, who created Thedas’ most despicable philosophy.

In important things, I debate. In less important things, I ignore the opposition and go my own way.

I tend to have leadership roles thrust on me, in spite of being most unwilling to take them up. I don’t know why, I certainly give no encouragement. Dealing with people is a pain.
 
68-Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
No. Large groups of people are too often immune to reason.
 
69-Do you care what others think of you?

I like to read and to create fanciful images with magic. Preferably while drinking lots of tea.

Chamber music from the classic Imperial period. Orlesian court dances. Nevarran crypt art of the Storm age.

I avoid props for controlling the state of my mind. If I can’t do it with mental disciplines, it’s high time that I learned. The limits of such control are the limits of magical ability, and any prop you need masks a weakness that spirits can exploit. I will not be dependent.

I use my mental disciplines to calm myself. I retreat and drink tea. If circumstances prevent either, I am likely to become irritable.

I am rarely spontaneous in my work, and rarely have a plan for my free time.

Disrespect for knowledge. Wilful ignorance. The tendency of those in power to show both of these traits.

A typical Circle day, as described in countless documents. Generally, having the routine disrupted is desirable because it usually means that something interesting is happening. In spite of that, I dislike having my breakfast interrupted and when I'm in the library, I tend to not notice things going on outside.

Then we have Ariana and Fergus, twins both in birth and career, currently serving with the Templars Maker-knows-where. My closest sibling, age-wise, is Gemma. She eloped with an Antivian poet last year, leaving a great scandal behind in court.

After Gemma eloped Violet cut of my stipend, thus forcing my to come home. The estate is small, but in decent shape. This was actually pretty fun.  Took most of the day to complete, but I'm glad I did it.

Galen's probably answering these questions at a point before the peace summit has been announced, but after most everything else has happened.  Any later, and he'd talking about lofty ideals like "changing the world," and going on and on about being a part of history.  I also tried to give a few hints as to how he might answer a few questions after The Breach has occurred, and most of his comrades are dead.

 

Part 1: The Basics

1--What is your full name?

Galen Adaar

People ask about the name...so my parents have told me that they gave me a Thedosian name out of some desire to see me better integrate into Thedosian society, so I’d face less discrimination than if I had a qunari name.  It didn’t really help, though.

 

2--Where and when were you born?

On a small farmstead, shared by multiple families, near the coastal city of Cumberland, in the country of Nevarra, during the evening on the 3rd day of Solace, 9:14 Dragon.

 

3--Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

Both of my parents are Tal-Vashoth who fled into the south after leaving the Qun.  My mother, Tallis, tends the fields in the farmstead she shares with several other (human) families, while my father, Sten, is a mercenary.  Both take their names from the roles they left behind.

...Actually, that’s sort of a lie.  My parents are actually Ben-Hassrath spies, sent by the Qunari to spy on Cumberland and the Nevarran-Orlesian border, posing as Tal-Vashoth. Everything they’ve done, including starting a family, has been for the sake of their mission.

And as far as I know, they don’t have names.

 

4--Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

No, and I don’t think I ever will.  After we all found out I was a Mage...well, I think my parents are a little too concerned about producing a second child with my “disability.”

 

5--Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

I live at the quarters of the Valo-kas mercenary company, along with my mercenary brothers and sisters.  Specifically, I live in the mage’s quarters, along with the rest of the company’s mages.

 

6--What is your occupation?

I am a fully-invested mage and member of the Valo-kas mercenary company.  As for what I do as a mage...that depends entirely on what our patron has hired us to do.

 

7--Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.

I’m a 196cm tall, 98kg (6’5’’, 216 lbs.)...qunari...male, with iron gray skin, white hair, amber yellow eyes, and a par of thick, curving horns that begin near the front of my scalp, just above my temples.

I usually follow a certain cycle when it comes to the hair on my scalp, letting it grow some and then shaving it off.  Some of my comrades in Valo-kas have joked about using my head as a calendar, as I try to shave my head at the beginning of every month.

So, uh, other features?  I have a goatee that I keep in pretty good condition.  And while I have scars all over my body, including the one on my left shoulder, the one people notice the most is the one under my eyes.  I got it from a chevalier that tried to blind me; nearly missed actually getting my eyes thanks to halfways-decent reflexes on my part, and the chevalier getting a war hammer to the head.  Heh heh.  Good times.

 

8--To which social class do you belong?

I honestly don’t know.  Servant, perhaps?  My comrades and I are more outcasts than anything else.

 

9--Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

No allergies or chronic illnesses, nor any physical impairments.  I do have a scar on my left shoulder that twinges a bit if I more my arm the wrong way.

 

10--Are you right- or left-handed?

Right-handed naturally, but I’ve trained myself to be quasi-dextrous in my left.

 

11--What does your voice sound like?

Baritone, from what I’m told, and fairly soft and quiet, though I can be louder if necessary.

 

12--What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?

“The way I see it...”  “In fact”

“It was nothing.”  or something else deferential

 

13--What do you have in your pockets?

A small purse of coins, some styptics and anesthetic ointments, my company token.

I talk to myself.  A lot.  It’s my way of thinking or working through any issue I might have.  People complicate things by offering advice or criticisms.  I’d rather gather my thoughts, figure out how I really feel, and work through my anger or sadness, before seeking someone for advice.  I think more clearly if I can atually hear my thoughts.

I also have a habit of scratching the skin around my horns, which I’m told is akin to scratching my groin in public, at least according to my Tal-Vashoth comrades.

 

Part 2: Growing Up

15--How would you describe your childhood in general?

Happy, actually.  Not many of the kids that lived around me really liked me, but I did make a few friends during childhood.  Even now, I can still count two of them as friends.  Once I became an adolescent, however, things changed quite a bit. 

 

16--What is your earliest memory?

Accompanying my mother to the market, to sell what left-over crops we--that is, the collected families around the farmstead--could spare.  The city was amazing, but extremely busy and noisy.  And crowded in the poorer areas.

 

17--How much schooling have you had?

My mother taught me to read and write the dwarven trade language, aka. the common tongue, as well as a little qunlat, but I’m mostly self-taught on everything else.

My magic is the only exception; I was trained by a small group apostates between ages 13 and 17, and then by the senior mages in Valo-kas when I joined up with them at age 18.  I probably would have stayed with the apostates longer if they hadn’t been captured by the Templars.

 

18--Did you enjoy school?

Yes, if you could call my training with the apostates “school.”  I even enjoyed the harsh training I got from my seniors in the mercenary company.

I guess I just love learning.  After all, the way I see it, knowledge is the only form of power that doesn’t (usually) corrupt it’s possessor.

 

19--Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

As I said previously, I learned most of my magic-casting basics from a small group of apostates who lived in Cumberland’s slums, and more advanced techniques from my seniors in Valo-kas.  I also learned several non-magical fighting techniques from my non-mage seniors, with dagger fighting being my favorite.

 

20--While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.

Not really.  My parents never taught me anything substantial about the Qun, so I don’t really have any role models there, and I’ve always felt pretty indifferent about the Chantry...so no, no role models.

 

21--While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

As close as one can be to people who are more closed down than even I am.

 

22--As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Healthy?  Friends with people?  Able to live my life with a roof over my head, and not have to worry about going hungry or facing the institutionalized racism and discrimination that pervades the entirety of all Thedosian societies, great and humble?  Not having to watch my back around every human to make sure they aren’t congregating into a mob and planning to lynch me in the streets?  I mean, I know that I’m not the only one who faces it, and the elves have it just as bad, if not worse, but...!

...Sorry.  I guess I always assumed I’d be a farmer, like my mother, or a mercenary, like my father.  Guess my...prediction...came true.

 

23--As a child, what were your favorite activities?

Running through the fields, exploring the wilderness around the farmstead, reading any book I could get my hands on.

Bright, inquisitive, endlessly positive, affectionate, confused by hostility, kind, quiet.

I was a shy ray of sunshine.

*snort*  Uh, yeah, right.  Most of my early childhood friends were the adventurous, annoyingly inquisitive kids who didn’t listen to their parents when they were told not to talk to me.  I lost all but two of them as I got older.  The two that stayed, I saved them once from a wild animal attack, and in return, they’ve remained fiercely loyal to me.

 

26--When and with whom was your first kiss?

With one of my two aforementioned friends.  I was questioning my romantic preferences, and Liselle and Hiram offered to let me...test myself...on them.  Liselle was my first kiss, and Hiram was my second.  That’s also how I found out that I prefer men over women.

 

27--Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?

Nope, and...screwed a curious guy who worked in this one tavern’s stables, following my first mission as a full-fledged member of Valo-kas.  There have been a few more stable boys since then, and even one tavern master.

Hoo boy.  My first overt show of magic occurred when I was arguing with my mother and father.  Actually, I think it was more like whining.  They didn’t want me wandering off on my own--I had been looking for a library--whenever I accompanied my mother to Cumberland.  I got so angry that when I stomped my food, a gout of flame shot out of my palms and scorched the wooden floor.  All three of us immediately went silent, and I felt my stomach drop like a cannon ball.  Thinking back on it now, I’m surprised that my parents didn’t just kill me on the spot.  According to their beliefs, they had every right to kill me.  In fact, I think they were required to kill me.  That or turn me over to be made into one of Qun’s chained pets.

 

Part 3: Past Influences

29--What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?

My decision to join Valo-kas.  I didn’t have much of an alternative, really, but I’ve found a place among my mercenary brothers and sisters.  I belong somewhere for the first time in my life.  My situation isn’t ideal, but I’m respected, I feel needed, and...I feel wanted, valued for my talents and for who I am.  Sappy, I know.  I rarely get the chance to share my feelings like this, so thank you for the opportunity.

 

30--Who has had the most influence on you?

Hisra, one of the rogues in the company, and my senior, Kelaas.  They’ve taught me to be more proud of my race, nameless as it is, and my status as a mage, respectively.  Hisra also taught me to be unapologetic about the quirks in my personality.  Thanks to their influence, I couldn’t imagine being anyone else but me.

 

31--What do you consider your greatest achievement?

So far?  Electrocuting an entire group of bandits while leaving most of their supplies, as well as all of their hostages, untouched.  Not only was it show of great talent, but it offered an unexpected windfall for the entire company.  And our employer paid us handsomely for the excellent services rendered.

 

32--What is your greatest regret?

That I didn’t join the Circle when I found out I was a mage.  Things might not be perfect there, but I would have had books, a measure of security, and I wouldn’t have to risk my life just so I could keep on living.  But I'm settled in my current life, and used to the freedoms that I have.  I don't think I could live in the Circle as it is, even if I tried.  Not right now.

 

33--What is the most evil thing you have ever done?

Killed an innocent man on orders from one of our employers.  Summon mana, slight movement of the hands, upwards grabbing motion with the right, and the man was a pile of charred flesh and burnt bones.  Did it without a complaint, glared at the employer for just a second after it was done.  He probably thought I was angry about being used for something so “trivial,” when really, I was thinking “I really wish I could do that to YOU.”

 

34--Do you have a criminal record of any kind?

I’m a mercenary.  We do illegal things like killing people for money.  Of course I have a record.  I mean, I don't have a personal one, but I’m pretty sure I'd be sentenced right along with all of my brothers and sisters in Valo-kas.

 

35--When was the time you were the most frightened?

The day one of my parents’ handlers came to check in on them.  I have no idea what she was, but her cold eyes scared me more than anything else.  This was maybe a year after I discovered my magical talent, and my parents had just told me what happened to mages in the Qun.  It was only concrete bit of information about their philosophy that they had ever given me, and I didn’t like what I had heard.

The woman stayed long enough for tea, and then left.  The fact that my mother looked shaken from the experience...I'll never forget that day.

 

36--What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?

The first time someone caught me talking to myself.  I mean, it was all in jest, but they never let me hear the end of it.  It’s one of the reasons why Hisra started telling me not to apologize for my idiosyncrasies. 

 

37--If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

What I want to change is impossible to change, so I’ll just say that there is nothing that I want to change about my past. 

 

38--What is your best memory?

I don’t know.  None of them really stand out from each other.

 

39--What is your worst memory?

The time I was most frightened.  Beats out the initial panic I felt when I realized I was a mage by a mile.

 

Part 4: Beliefs and Opinions

I’m a realist and a cynic, who desperately wants to be an optimist.

 

41--What is your greatest fear?

Being forced to join the Qun, and become a saarebas.  I say I’d rather become an abomination, but really, I’d rather they just kill me.  Regrettably, my fear has been the subject an ongoing dream, one I fear is an immediate threat to my physical and spiritual safety.

 

42--What are your religious views?

Non-religious.  I believe in some kind of higher power, and I could even be lead to believe the Maker is that higher power, but I just can’t bring myself to join the Chantry.   At least, not the current iteration of the Chantry.

 

43--What are your political views?

Moderate.  I support the elven rebellions in Orlais, and feel that they should occur in the other nations around Thedas.  I believe no one has the right to oppress another person, regardless of race, social status, rank or nobility, mage status, or any other reason.  In fact, I’d rather there not be an aristocracy at all.  I also oppose given special rights to groups like the chevaliers or Templars, able to abuse their power without fear of reprisal.

 

On the other hand, I believe some form of Circle is necessary and, in fact, ideal for mages.  I mean, I support the mage rebellion based on the way that a lot of Templars abused their power, but I’d certainly oppose total freedom.  Mages need a place to belong, a safe place where they can learn their craft in peace, and where dangerous elements like that...Anders...can be discovered and contained.

 

44--What are your views on sex?

It’s good, but not something to be done lightly.  You have to be sure why you’re doing it, and just saying “because it feels good” is not enough.

 

45--Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?

Yes, very easily, in fact.  I helps not to think of them as “people,” but targets.

As for why, well, that ties in with my personal code of ethics concerning using magic.  Preferably, I only ever cast to defend people, eliminate imminent threats to my life or the lives of others, institute changes that I know will be beneficial for society at large, or helping those who can’t help themselves

If I kill, I’d prefer to do it for the same reasons.

 

46--In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?

To use one’s power to oppress another.

 

47--Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?

Soul-mates? No.

True love?  Only after a long friendship or other meaningful association.

 

48--What do you believe makes a successful life?

Being content with your life, comfortable with who you are, and leaving a lasting, positive impact on those around you.

 

49--How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?

I’m usually pretty honest about my thoughts and opinions, though I don’t often volunteer the information, at least not readily.  I’m pretty quiet, actually.

 

50--Do you have any biases or prejudices?

Yeah, but we all do.  I tend to think humans can arrogant and self-centered, and are so in a way that is only possible for them.  The dwarves I’ve met haven’t left me with a high opinion of their race, either.  Truthfully, I tend to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst, when it comes to either humans or dwarves.  Elves are pretty cool, though.  

 

51--Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?

I refuse to make absolute statements, under most circumstances. It goes par for the job.

 

52--Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?

Innocent people who can’t defend themselves.

My two friends back in Cumberland.  I’d tear down the entirety of the Orlesian Empire if they wanted me to.

 

Part 5: Relationships with Others

53--In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?

I’d like to think that I’m an amiable person, friendly and enjoyable to be around, but I know that I’m a bit distant.  I’m a bit more open with the people I know well, and I definitely feel more relaxed around such people.  On the other hand, if someone’s repeatedly rude or hostile to me, I’ll give back as much as I get.  It’s a bad habit, but I will not be antagonized.

 

54--Who is the most important person in your life, and why?

There are two, and they are my only two remaining childhood friends.  Beyond that, there are my brother and sisters in the Valo-kas mercenary company.  I’d probably be very depressed if I lost either.

 

55--Who is the person you respect the most, and why?

I’d have to say I respect the Champion of Kirkwall the most.  He tried his best to keep peace in Kirkwall, even before he became Champion, and ended an attempted Qunari invasion of the city.  Even though he ultimately failed, it happened through no fault of his own, and he attempted to save as many innocents as he could along the way.

And according to reports, he killed that abomination, Anders.  Knifed him back.  Now that is justice!

 

56--Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.

Hiram and Liselle Landers, my sole childhood friends, and the friendliest, most open-minded farmers you’ll probably ever find.  They’ve always supported me, always assured me that they’re on my side.  I’d do anything for them.

They’re married now, paired together by their parents, which suits them just fine.  Forgave me when I missed the wedding.  We still write each other letters as often as possible.

 

57--Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.

No...and I doubt I’ll ever have the opportunity.

 

58--Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.

Once...maybe...and it ended pretty quickly  The guy I had feelings for kicked me in the stomach after his friends had thrown me to the ground, laughed, called me a “heathen cow,” and told me to go back to Seheron.  Yeah, he sure was a keeper, all right.

 

59--What do you look for in a potential lover?

I look for someone more outgoing than I am, but not to a great degree.  He needs to be generous, self-assured without being arrogant, and he needs to treat everyone equally.  Actually, he needs to treat other people the same way he would want to be treated.  He also has be moderately attractive, with some kind of facial hair that flatters his features.  Nothing’s worse on a man than facial hair that doesn’t fit his face.

 

60--How close are you to your family?

Not very.  I love them, sure, but I’ve never really felt like their son.  They’re too distant.

 

61--Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?

I have not, and I likely never will.  I have the freedom to choose my lovers, and given my preference, only the Maker could make it possible for two men of different races bear a child.

 

62--Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?

My seniors and peers in Valo-kas.  Otherwise, I don’t have anyone else.  Maker help me if my company is wiped out, and I’m left the only survivor. 

 

63--Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?

Again, my peers and seniors in Valo-kas.  We are all brothers and sisters in the company, and our only permanent ties of loyalty are to each other.  Patrons will come and go, but we will remain ever present in each other’s lives, strong and dedicated.

 

64--If you died or went missing, who would miss you?

Do I even have to say it?  My friends in Cumberland would miss me, as well, but I’m sure I’d eventually become a distant memory.

 

65--Who is the person you despise the most, and why?

Anders, the terrorist who blew up Kirkwall’s Chantry.  Words cannot describe the burning hatred I have for the man.  He better be dead, because if he’s not, I swear, I will find him and torture him to death.  Publicly.  It’s the least he deserves, in my opinion; he took all of the trust, all of the good will mages had been building up over the past nine and half centuries, and obliterated it with that one act.  He killed innocent people for some vague ideal, and put those he wanted to help in harm’s way.  I don’t care if he or others think it was necessary, there are always other alternatives to murder!  I realize that's sort-of hypocritical coming from me, but I usually don't have a choice in who I kill...for the most part.

 

66--Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?

I debate if an issue is important to me, but eventually stop if I see that I’m not getting anywhere with the person, and neither of us is willing to budge.  If I know someone won’t budge on an issue, I avoid starting a conflict...unless I’m in a capricious mood. Then I poke the sleeping dragon on purpose, and have my fun riling them up.

Most of the time, though, I prefer to keep peace and avoid conflicts.

 

67--Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?

Not usually.  It involves doing a lot of things, and acting a certain way, that’s contrary to my generally quiet, calm, laid-back personality.

 

68--Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?

No.  I hate small talk, and you can never get a word in edgewise.  No on listens to anyone else, people talk over each other, and the subject changes so fast, you don’t have time to think about what you want to say.  I don’t know how anyone can stand that.

Being around a lot of people is also physically tiring for me, and I end up feeling like I’ve cast a hundred spells by the end of a big party.

Honestly?  More than could ever be healthy for me.

Field botany and zoological codices, alchemical primers and manuals, treatises on magic and the Fade, mythology compendiums, historical accounts, personal journals, and essays by Brother Genitivi 

 

75--What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?

The music I like to listen to has to have energy and a good, strong beat, like most tavern ditties.  It has to be something I could narrate my life to.

Court music tends to lack the kind of bite I prefer.  It’s flat, uninspiring.  Tame.  It has no character or strength.  It lacks artistic girth.  It’s underwhelming! It's flaccid!  I mean, Maker, how can anyone listen to that crap!?

As for art, it has be pretty and easy to understand.

 

76--Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?

By certain standards, yes.  By standards of most of Thedas, however, it’s the only safe stuff to drink that tastes halfways decent.  Do you even know what boiled well water tastes like?  I never get drunk on the cheap wine or ciders I drink, if that’s what you’re asking.  The worst thing a mage can do is lose control of his or her faculties.

 

77--How do you spend a typical Saturday night?

Doing one of my hobbies: reading, playing music, or practicing my spellcrafting.

 

78--What makes you laugh?

Clever observations made in a humorous, sarcastic tone, as long as I’m not the butt of the joke, and watching people react to outrageous news or situations.  *snrk*  The look on some people’s faces.  Classic!

 

79--What, if anything, shocks or offends you?

People discriminating because I share my race with the Qunari.  Being called a Qunari.

I am not Qunari!  I hate Qunari just as much as the next person!  *looks around*  My parents are the exception.

Read.

 

81--How do you deal with stress?

I bottle it up until I can work through it constructively, usually by talking to myself or snarking bitterly at another person.  If I’m not given that chance, I usually explode in a shower of violence and curses, followed up by a great deal of guilt and embarrassment.

I am neither all that spontaneous, nor do I often have an actual plan for most of my day.  I tend to play my entire life by ear.

Being called a Qunari, racism and zealotry, being confused with a Qunari, corruption and arrogance from the “upper class,” being treated like a Qunari, unreasonable or headstrong people, being implied to be Qunari by other people, cruelty, mistreating my friends, sweet potatoes, and peas.  Did I mention being thought of as Qunari?

84--Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?

Wake up, eat, physical training, meditate, eat, practice magic, read, eat, spend time drinking with my peers, get teased for preferring cider to ale, meditate, go to sleep.  If I’m interrupted, I usually sigh, gripe a little, and then do whatever I’m asked to do.

 

85--What is your greatest strength as a person?

My generally kind and caring nature, and my ability to look at both sides to a problem.  It allows me to serve as a mediator, when I’m given the chance, and it has won me more than a few allies outside my normal social group.  

 

86--What is your greatest weakness?

My generally kind and caring nature, and my ability to look at both sides to a problem.  It  makes me look weak, overly emotional, and wishy-washy to people who think that having unbreakable convictions make your a strong person.

 

87--If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My horns.  I’d make them a little smaller so that I could sleep more easily.

Introverted, and proud.

Organized in appearance, messy in my personal space.

Magic, cooking and alchemy (I consider them basically the same thing), and being a calming influence are things I’m very good at.

Leadership skills, playing up my strengths, and being charismatic are three things I’m actually very bad at.

Well enough.  I’m certainly more self-critical than most people, but it also means that I’m less likely to lie to myself in order to stroke my own ego.  I’m honest about my strengths and faults.

 

92--What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons...)

Because I really didn’t have a choice; it was either become a mercenary, or become a farmer and eventually get lynched by my (human) neighbors when they could no longer take my presence.  At least I get to live fairly comfortably as a mercenary, considering the trade off is that I have to put life on the line and kill for wealthy, corrupt nobles.

And yes, I am honest about my reasons.

 

93--What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?

To be remembered fondly by the people I come across, especially the people I will come care about.

 

94--Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Either dead or serving yet another patron, shoulder to shoulder with my Valo-kas brothers and sisters.

Unconscious.  I don’t want to be aware of my last moments.

I’d probably do something entirely unholy like eliminating Orlesian nobility or burning down the Chevalier Academy, write my friends a goodbye letter, panic for a few minutes at the first light of dawn, and then spend my last moments in quiet meditation.

I’m joking, actually.  I’d do the last three, but I’d probably spend most of my time writing down my experiences and the knowledge I’d gained as a mage, as well as letting loose and really testing the limits of my abilities.

 

97--What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?

Providing I didn’t do any last day cleaning up *heh heh*, I’d like to be remembered as someone who tried to bring a measure of peace and stability to Thedas, even if it's only temporary.

I know it’s difficult sometimes, but you need to start trusting the people around you a little more.  Not everyone is going to accept you, and I know you know that, but there are more people who care about you (or will come to care about you) than you think.  

And take some credit for the good you do.  You’re so apt to take the blame when you make a mistake, so you should be just as ready to accept any praise or thanks you get when you do something right.  You are worthy of it, and just because anyone could do whatever you did, doesn’t mean you don’t deserve thanks for a good deed.

And for Maker’s sake, stop obsessing over the Qunari!  They aren’t THAT bad, and you know it.

Father: Colin, The Teryn of Ostwick. He is a dutiful and devoted man both to the chantry and to his family. He has a rather dry and witty sense of humor.

Mother: Tellina, a noblewoman originally from the kingdom of Nevarra. As a noble she doesn't have a job per say, but she 'works' with her husband in ruling Ostwick. She is an energatic sort of woman, that tends to enjoy life.

Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

Brother: Niall – the heir to Ostwick. Niall is a man that enjoys life, while he can be serious at times, no one can deny the energy he places into life. He knows that he will be the Teryn so he is preparing himself for when he takes over.

Brother: Rory – a rather serious templar. Yet for all his seriousness, he is more open to his family especially his younger sister. It is Rory that helped Navilia with combat training.

Part 2: Growing Up

How would you describe your childhood in general?

Carefree. As the youngest child, I did not have to worry about becoming the Teryna of Ostwick. So it left me free to do what I wish. I often found myself sneaking around the castle or outside of the castle with my friend Siobhan.

What is your earliest memory?

The earliest memory that I can remember is when I was told the chant of light for the first time as a baby girl.

How much schooling have you had?

A good amount, while I am not likely going to be the Teryna of Ostwick, I was still taught to be a lady of house Trevelyan. My tutor and mother helped make sure I knew what diplomacy was and how to handle negotiations and people without losing my cool. When I decided to enter the Chantry, I was provided with additional education as well.

Did you enjoy school?

To some extent, I did, yes.

Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

Most of my more diplomatic skills and dealing with people I was taught via my mother and my tutor. They both made me understand what it means to be a proper lady.

 

My other abilities, such as my sneaking and lock-picking I learned myself by sneaking out from the castle or breaking into my brother's room for pranks.

While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.

There are a few role models that I had growing up; most of which still make

 

Navilia the dragonslayer – my ancestor on my mother's side who in single combat killed a high dragon. She chose to fight this monster instead of letting it ravage the country side. While I do not know how much of it is true, even now it gives me courage to think what she might have done.

 

Andraste – The Maker's prophet, his bride. There is no other person that I look up to as a role model. When I am feeling lost, sad, confused or angry. I look to what the Prophet would have done. Even before I decided to enter the priesthood, Andraste was a guide and a symbol of hope to me.

 

While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

I got a long well with my family. I and my brothers fought but we are siblings, we enjoyed playing jokes and pranks on each other, even Rory who could be rather serious once entered the Templars.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a child, I can remember wanting to be a heroine like my name sake, Navilia the dragon slayer. I always remember my mother telling me about her heroics when I was a child. Since I was young I wanted to be like her.

As a child, what were your favorite activities?

In my youth, I enjoyed doing what ever I wanted. I was rather carefree and indulgent. I enjoyed sneaking out of the castle and just exploring the city with my friend Siobhan. Coming back and pranking my brothers in the night.

As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?

Compared to now? I was much more carefree and indulgent.

As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?

I am the daughter of the Teryn of Ostwick, I naturally was a popular kid. Though I suppose my closest friend was my handmaiden/Lady-in-Waiting Siobhan.

When and with whom was your first kiss?

Siobhan, and at at some ball.

Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?

No, and with siobhan. We were both drunk after a ball and well things happened.

If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.

My faith in the Maker and Andraste is the greatest influence that guides my life. Beyond that though my mother and my tutor have been the greatest influence in my life.

 

Part 3: Past Influences

My decision to enter the Chantry and become a sister.

I haven't done much to be considered great. Though I did joy in beating the templar archer in an archery contest.

No, at least I haven't been convicted of any crime.

When was the time you were the most frightened?

The day siobhan died. As usual we were out and about, beyond the noble quarters. We liked exploring the city. That was the day when we met the blood mage. He kidnapped us, I thought it was at first at ransom, but then he killed Siobhan in for some vile blood magic. I thought I was going to die. I can still see her horrified face when he slit her throat. I managed to hide and then get away from him, yet despite that I will never forget the look of my best friend.

What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?

Getting drunk and sleeping with some noble during one of the balls in my youth.

If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

Saving my friend Siobhan.

What is your best memory?

The celbration of Rory becoming a templar. Even for him, the family was happy. It was a family gahtering were all were happy and proud of that Rory had passed his training and was now a full fledge member of the templar order.

What is your worst memory?

The day that Siobhan died.

Generally I tend to be optimistic. Though I am not as carefree that I was in my youth.

What is your greatest fear?

To be all alone with my best friends and companions turning on me.

What are your religious views? I am a devoted follower of the Chantry.

What are your political views? I am for the chantry. This is what I support the most. When it comes to mages and templars both are better under the control of the chantry with more oversight then they had before. The circle system and the templars work, but it needs to be better policed to prevent corruption and abuse.

What are your views on sex? It can be good, but only if it is done with people without indulgence. Indugling in lust is a quick way to loose one's self.

Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable? Yes, I am able to kill. Killing is acceptable when defending others from harm, but to just kill someone because you dislike them is not acceptable.

In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?

Kill another and use them for a blood magic ritual.

I was taught to be a diplomat for while I won't be likely to be the Teryna of Ostwick anytime soon, I can become important through the Chantry. I tend to prefer being polite and diplomatic to most people, but avoiding showing what I am feeling except to my friends and family.

Who is the most important person in your life, and why?

One single person? I guess my father, though that is hard as I would say all of my family is important to me.

Who is the person you respect the most, and why?

Mother Roysa, she found me during my darkest hour when I felt the light in my world go out when Siobhan died. While I knew my father would make me join the chantry, it was Mother Roysa, that made me desire to enter the chantry on my own.

Well I have several other friends, mostly other noble ladies. But my best friend died to a vile blood mage.

Yes. My handmaiden, Siobhan. We were kids thoug. Just shy of our eighteenth name day. Then the blood mage killed her.

I look for faith, being able to enjoy each others companion and good witty humor. Naturally I also would like for them to look attractive as well.

How close are you to your family?

Rather close, even my brother Rory who often is away spending time performing duties for the templar order.

No, I have not. Currently I do not. I wish to focus on my duties to the Chantry, Ostwick and my family.

My Vashoth brothers informing me of my mothers demise in battle. I wept for her. It was this moment, when I lost everything, that I decided I would be stronger than her. And that I would be stronger than anyone.

I am none of these. I have entertained finding a werewolf or vampire to increase my combat skills. But it would be a hindrance on my ability to fight with arms, and travel during the day respectively.

29-What do you consider the most important event of your life so far? My mother dying. It drove me to become the force I am today.

My mother. The Grey Wardens. Specifically the Hero of Ferelden. The Champion of Kirkwall. All have made me strive for combat prowess and perfection.

My training. A single event specifically would be my victory in a duel against a Giant.

Not being strong enough to save my mother.

I murdered a mage mother. She had thought me a Qunari of ill intent and attacked me. She was but a deer before a wolf. Afraid and with senses relieved, defending her fawn. I slew her and took the child to a town and left him to an orphanages care. I took the boys mothers life, and left him with nothing. It was cruel of me. I fully expect the boy to grow and seek me out to acquire retribution one day. I await him with sword in hand, and apologies to share. Not that they will change anything.

No. Any "crimes" I have committed are only known by myself.

I was captured by Qunari soldiers. I was fearful of them bringing me to a tamassran to indoctrinate me to their ways as I was never born to the Qun. Luckily I broke my bonds and escaped into the night. My vengeance at feeling fear was achieved 3 days later when they tracked me , and I cut them down.

An old travelling comrade brought me to his home village, where we imbibed spirits. Many spirits. We bedded a lady pirate. I awoke in his arms, my belongings lifted from my possession. I have travelled alone since that day.

Nothing. All things happen because it is as is supposed to happen.

In the city of Ostwick in the Free Marches, 27 years ago.

Thomas and Maytra, nobles from House Trevelyan. Was taken from them at an early age and placed in the Circle of Magi in the Free Marches. Mother always wore pearls, but have little memory of anything else.

I remember older children laughing a playing in the house. Were they my brothers and sisters or the servant's children? I don't know. I was kept away from, them most of the time after I set the cat go on fire.

• Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
The Circle of Magi in the Free Marches. The circle is comfortable enough or at least we are told it's better than most other circles, especially the one in Kirkwall. I love the smell of the library and the north-west window in the upper level gives a beautiful view of the valley. The other mages are quite, usually and the Templars seem to tolerate us. Most are polite enough and some seem to even sympathize w/ our predicament. That one Templar, Barabbas, I don't like the way he looks at me and the other girls, though he hasn't done anything that we know of. Han was made tranquil three days ago after trying to sneak out, but rumor is there is more to it than that. I have friends and even some I would call family in this circle. The circle is my home, but it also my prison.

I am a mage and proud of it. One day, with enough study and dedication I hope to be First Enchanter. Ever since the cat incident I've always had a knack for destruction spells, fire and ice mostly, but I'm trying to focus more on protection and defense.

Part 1: The Basics

2. Where and when were you born?

The Lattenfluss near Kassel 23 years to the day.

 

3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

They are Vashoth. Laborers in Kassel when they fled Valarian Fields. Their given names were old Tevene but they shed them for something elvish to credit the woman that helped them away from Minrathous. Concerning personality - they're people typical of the Anderfels. Accepted well-enough because they work hard and mind themselves.

 

4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

I have no siblings.

 

5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

I sleep wherever a job takes me. Valo-kas company mercs. are typically a decent kind and when they aren't the pay assures them tolerable.

 

6. What is your occupation?

Mercenary for now. But I'm a fellow of all seasons - jack of all mundane trades, really.

 

7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.

I'm very tall - just over 207 cm. I eat hardy to keep weight on my frame and my work keeps me fit. My skin is a light taupe, and my eyes are deep set and a pale fawn. My hair is black - and the skin where my horns grew in is dusty near-black but it blends nicely into the tan skin at my forehead and temples. I have a beard but I keep it neat and trimmed to my face. Too used to the Ander heat - I prefer to dress lightly in cotton no matter the weather.

I suppose I'm a commoner. Well - I'd have to play taxes like one if I settled somewhere and that's how I got my answer.

Not that I'm aware, no.

Its like a drumroll, I'd say. Fast - unbroken - heavy. And it always stirs a room to attention.

A few things in broken elvish I picked up from my mother.

A knife and small coin purse.

I really wouldn't say so. 

Part 2: Growing Up

15. How would you describe your childhood in general?

I was set to work early and stayed busy at whatever I'd been tasked. Everyone had to pull their weight - stay versatile and useful - to keep the outpost livable.

 

16. What is your earliest memory?

Cradled to father's chest as he smoothed his fingers over my tiny horns.

 

17. How much schooling have you had?

I know how to read and write and do accounts.

 

18. Did you enjoy school?

Not particularly but the skills are highly useful.

 

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

The bored niece of a well-off chantry brother my father tilled for in the Lattenfluss.

 

20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.

The other qunari cloistered together at the outpost's outskirts. Many of them were simply Vashoth Tevinter escapees - as my mother and father had been - but Tal-Vashoth existed among them too and they came from all over. They'd come from Qunari outposts not far off in the Donarks. By boat from Seheron to Tallo and then by foot to Kassel on the road to Hossberg. And they turned up from everywhere else too.

 

They were what I should be - careful, discerning, hardworking, quiet, and knew how to stay free. They knew how to handle humans when they had to but didn't seek them out. They stayed friendly with most elves that passed through or settled, and remained wary of armed dwarves for the Carta influence in the Anderfels is greater than anyone would guess. They were regimented in schedule and looked after one another like family. A handful knew qunlat and would speak in tongue at mealtime. A few having spent so much of their life in the Anderfels took to worship of the Maker. My mother knew a bit of elvish and told me what stories she knew of their history and gods also. Two of the younger ones joined the Wardens and an apostate mage was hidden until she came of age. We varied wildly.

 

I'm convinced that not all of the Tal-Vashoth were as they claimed, however. I just have it in my head that a spy or two hid among them. Humans talked about the qunari outside Kassel and I'm sure such talk reached qunari ears elsewhere. The Qun would certainly want to keep watch on a qunari settlement away from their authority - one smack in the middle of the staunchest Andrastian nation on the continent.

 

21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

I shared a very pleasant relationship w/ both my mother and father.

 

22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A grey warden. Nearly all children of the Anderfels do.

 

23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?

Hunting - what little of it there was to do in the clay steppes near the mountains. And trips up the imperial highway to Tallo to view the Colean Sea.

 

24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?

I was obedient. Industrious. Level-headed. Its practically a crime to be anything other than that where I came up.

 

25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?

I was qunari and near everyone was wary. My family mostly kept to itself and other qunari.

 

26. When and with whom was your first kiss?

I was 19 years. The girl was my age and daughter of a magistrate in Hossberg.

 

27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?

The same girl. She flirted w/ the idea of settling in Kassel but there was nothing for it.

 

28. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.

I trained w/ swords in Kessel under the local militiamen and I later parleyed my skills into mercenary work.

Part 3: Past Influences

Joining up w/ Valo-kas.

 

30. Who has had the most influence on you?

The shepherd that saw my mother and father to safety. I carry her sayings and the stories my mother passed on about her in the elvish I've gathered over the years.

My early promotion to Lieutenant.

 

32. What is your greatest regret?

Leaving Larissa - the magistrate's daughter - in Hossberg. A wound up blade that takes its aim at my uncertainty is the last kiss of her I had.

 

33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?

Taking jobs that get guiltless people killed typically tops the list, but once I daubed qunari warpaint on the bedframe of a lazy merc. I worked a job under. He died by morning and I collected his cut of the pay.

 

34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?

I've been caught law-breaking on a job - larceny and petty theft - but Valo-kas sorted it out and I've never done time for any crimes.

 

35. When was the time you were the most frightened?

Axed in the chest by a disgruntled client - I was saved from near-death by mage back-up.

 

36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?

It may appear silly but its a tall lie that came crashing down at an inopportune time. I choked for a almost a full minute on the smoke of a pricey orlesian apple-wood cigar I'd told everyone at a bar in Kassel I liked the taste of.

 

37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

I think I would've become a grey warden.

 

38. What is your best memory?

Walking the Red Light district in Wycome over Satinalia.

 

39. What is your worst memory?

Crossing the Frostbacks w/ nary a warm village in sight.

Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions

40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?

An optimist, I think. I basically trust in people to do the right thing. My village banded together out of necessity but stayed together out of genuine care. Life in the Anderfels is just too hard and too short to live in service of people you can barely tolerate. Absolutely no one I knew would be masochist enough to do it. And so everything I saw people do - it was because they cared about others more than they did themselves.

 

41. What is your greatest fear?
That I won't live up to the principles instilled in me growing up.

 

42.  What are your religious views?
I at least pay lip service to the Maker - you really can't live in the Anderfels and not. But I have no firm attachment to the chant of light. The Qun isn't something I'd ever believe in either. And certainly the elven gods weren't very much in the way of gods if so easily tricked and locked away from their people.
 

43. What are your political views?
People do a better job at looking after themselves than any government on this earth ever will.
 

44. What are your views on sex?
If you couldn't very often enjoy good food or sex the joy of life would be hard to justify.
 

45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
I'm very able to kill. And its unacceptable to kill simply to kill.
 

46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
Reject people unlike them for that alone.

I'm not sure. I flip it and picture myself as some girl's soul mate and wonder at every fitting such a weighty title.

Getting the thing you want most out of it.

I don't know - you can make declarations about these kind of things but you don't know really until you feel the heat of the decision to be made upon you neck. That said - maybe I'd sacrifice/die to help someone undeserving of their fate escape it.

I'm generally respectful but when I've clear reason not to be. And closer to people I like the most, naturally.

Myself. Mainly from lack of anyone else to hold that affection and not a tendency to always put myself first.
 

55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
My mother. She did everything my father did - field work, servant work, and hard labor all to raise them out of poverty - and had more responsibility all the time when she had a small child to look after. She didn't complain about it and it didn't harden her.
 

56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
I'm usually friendly w/ my comrades in arms when I take a job, whoever they might be. I had friends in the Lattenfluss but I haven't seen them in ages.

No.

Not in love since I didn't stay w/ her - but I have cared a lot for another.

A sweetness and shine of personality and looks.

Very close - even as distance hurts things.

No - but I would like to have a family some day.

My father. I call out for him still like I did as a child.

Who does anyone trust more to help them than their parents? My allies in Valo-kas would fit the bill fine too.

I know my mother and father would. A few in Kassel too. And a few mercs. in Valo-kas would spill drink in my honor but soonafter move on.

The king in Hossberg that leaves his people to fend for themselves - who doesn't even count qunari among them.
 

66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
I certainly don't seek out conflict for kicks but I don't shy away from it when its in my face.
 

67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
I've earned my leadership role in Valo-kas and exercise my judgement like I'm paid to. In other situations - I don't just step right up as a leader but I will if its clear I can affect things for the better by doing so.
 

68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
Not really - but I won't balk at the task if it must be done.
 

69. Do you care what others think of you?
Of course - and I know more than I should at times.

Part 6: Likes And Dislikes

Sewing - believe it or not. I can't simply buy casual clothing for my size off a merchant and quality seamstresses are expensive. I took it up at nine and my work today is practically professional level.

My life. Its easy to lose in my line of work. But also an elven pendant of Mythal the Protector the elf Syfka gave my mother. I keep it on my person and have shown it to nearly every elf I've met. My hope is that one day its giver recognizes it and we meet.

 

72. What is your favorite color?
Cornflower blue.
 

73. What is your favorite food?
A nicely doctored crayfish and okra soup.
 

74. What, if anything, do you like to read?

I don't do a lot of reading but I like epics.

A round in the tavern and a good dinner. But an act at the amphitheater or a freakshow is a good time too.

I smoke and drink but not to the point my clothes stink or I fall over drunk.

On a job or spending my earnings.

A good joke. A funny story. Low brow humor.

I'm shocked at how hard life is for most people outside the Anderfels despite how much better the land and climates are. I'm offended at it too. But most at anyone that discredits me because I'm qunari.

I might pick up my needle and thread. Handling fabric in candlelight tires my eyes and usually puts me back to bed.

I break down whatever problem I have and handle it piece by piece - that's the only way to do it.

I prefer to have a plan but I can do w/out.

I don't have solid routines as my work doesn't line up that way.
