Every time i see boob-plate and its ilk my opinion of humanity is lessened. Those boob shapes? They obstruct arm movement= no place on the battlefield. Exposed skin= No place on the battlefield.Sexy= NO PLACE ON THE BATTLEFIELD. GAH! The only skintight armor that is acceptable is leather and thats really just regular clothing. Ornamentation is one thing, making the actual shape of the armor to be impractical or compromise protection is entirely diffrent.
Romans managed ok while having a muscle cuirass, conquering all known world.

I'm pretty certain that is ceramonial armour. When they were off conquering "all known world" (actually, they knew of a lot of land they didn't conquer), for the most part they used mail, and then later switched to the lorica segmenta. The breastplate in that picture is utterly impractical.

Yeah that armor wasn't really used in combat. Romans were practical people and their armor reflects that. Simple yet effective.
Now that is a nice picture. Romans in mail with curved shields! So often we just see the later imperial era lorica segmenta and rectangular shields.
I'd love to gear my warrior Inqusitor up like that.

So Bioware cannot make anything for horny nerdy boys ? However, them making hot, handsome, masculine, buff males to satisfy the horny girls who play games, that's somehow okay ?
Making skimpy female armors are not okay but making armor that exposes most of Iron Bull's and male Qunari's chests are okay ? Talk about being a hypocrite.
I do not get this shaming of male gamers and male sexual preferences while glorifying females and female sexual preferences. You either make allowance to satisfy both of them or you don't. Tis' that simple.
I for one would like the inclusion of practical armors and sexy armors for both sexes. This is a fantasy game played by people of both sexes and as such should satisfy both of them.
That's not really the same thing. In Iron Bull's case, it's for one character with a set design; the leather armor in DAO mentioned existed for all characters and was completely inescapable. I won't complain about how revealing Morrigan's outfit was, because again, it was just for one character.
Also, FYI, I'm female and still vastly prefer sexy women, so the sweeping references to "male" and "female" preferences don't really work.

To everyone who brought up sexy armor and functionality. In a world with magic, dragons and demons, armor not being practical is what seems unplausible to you? Not that Dragon Age has any of those(except for Isabella, maybe), but you know, in general, because I've heard this one a thousand times before.
Otherwise, yeah, I agree with the OP, kinda. Ultimately whether or not there is sexy armor in the game is very much dependant on the tone of the game. In Saint's Row having ridiculous clothing is okay... nay... required. But in a more "serious" game, not so much.
This.
Also heavy armor is not the only thing that can keep you alive. For example for a rouge dexterity IS defense, which (s)he can't do in heavy armor. So if (s)he is already wearing fabric and leather armor, why couldn't it also be sexy?

I don't know much about what females find attractive on males, but I feel like the "bulk and sharp" of ridiculously pointy and unwieldy armor is "sexy" on males in a sense. I know I wouldn't be against an armor that seamlessly goes from "spikey shoulders that are in no way useful" down to showing a 8-pack ab region and then back around to spikey and unwieldy. I think that, however, making armor like that seems silly. It seems odd to try and attribute "female sexuality" to a male character. It is perfectly fine for females to be sexy in one way and males to be sexy in another way.
This is majority of females find attractive.

According to my experiences, no. Skinny is in fashion right now, not muscle, many of my female friends have told me numerous times that they prefer a skinny body build over toned and muscular ones, they have very skinny boyfriends.
I don't know why, and I don't care, thats just what I have observed first hand.
*shudders at the thought of a super skinny guy*
If a guy looks like I could bench press him.....eh. Dating or anything would totally be off the table.
I like both men and women to be toned (not ripped) and of a decent physical size (DA noodle arms for women bother the heck out of me...especially for warrior class).
As for armors...I like stylish, practical armor.....the sexy revealing stuff just totally breaky my concentration and ability to immerse in game 'cause all I'm thinking is "Really???"
And mage robes in DAI, glad to see it looks like there will be some change in the armor for them.....always hated playing a mage, with a lot of the dislike due to the robes....(like if a Templar couldn't tell you were a mage due to the staff you carried, they totally would be able to due to the robes even the apostates wore......you'd THINK that apostates would go to more normal looking clothing so they didn't stand out quite so much.)

The DLC mage robes were pretty good in DA2.

You never played Neverwinter Nights?
Spoiler
I'm not a huge fan of chainmail bikinis, but I'd take Aribeth's armor everyday. It's beautiful ![]()
So far, I think Dragon Age has given quite a large choice of armors for females, from full plate (warden commander) to less covering light armors (Dalish). I like it that way.

Functionality will always win out over asthetics, for me. Crafting should help alleviate this anyways.

Yeah, probably. I mean you provided the perfect example with Hawkes key. That thing is ugly as fu** and looks ridiculous.I think the impression that some weapons were ridiculously heavy comes from the portrayal of them in many (most?) fantasy RPGs, where they quite often are ridiculously oversized and bulky. They often tend to look a lot heavier in games than they would in the real world.
Hawke's Key vs. the longsword.

I think stuff like this is really not necessary in this day and age.
...The day I thought I was buying a snazzy looking robe for my female sith only to have it turn in to a bikini with a hood. Silly me for thinking that robe is a robe and not checking that its not a sexist robe first ![]()

Im pretty sure that in star wars lore the more revealing something is the more the force protects the wearer. So more skin showing equals more defense....The day I thought I was buying a snazzy looking robe for my female sith only to have it turn in to a bikini with a hood. Yeah, that makes sense. Especially since Yoda and Obi-Wan run around in tan hoods and jockstraps......

I really couldn't care less if armor looks functional, so long as it's not extremely ridiculous. I pick what looks pleasing to me, and figure other people will do the same. I certainly won't rail against the people who dress their characters like they're going to an orgy or the people who dress their characters like showing an inch of ankle is the worst thing you can do. I'll just do what fits my personal taste.

Ultimately, this is how I feel about it. I don't really care if people like to dress their characters in a sexy way. It's not my game. Especially in a single-player game. It's not like I'll even have to look at their inquisitors. As long as there are sexy options for guys and gals, I'm fine. I will probably not use them, but it's nice to know they are there if I want them.
In MMO's, it's a bit different because I have to see and interact with their characters. It doesn't really effect me in the long run, but I do tend to eyeroll male characters in bad ass robes and hoods and masks and armor being accompanied Mako running around in a slave girl outfit. But, again, it's a minor annoyance at most.

The issue with armour design is that its not just the PC that wears armour. A lot of NPCs do too. And even if I give my PC functional armour, if the rest of the women in the world are wearing chainmail bikinis and the men have such ridiculous shoulderpads they can't even turn their heads, then I find it hugely immersion breaking.
