Ha! Sorry, but that is just so rich you have no idea. I made a post extremely critical of feminists (seriously, just look at the last page), and then some time later, I'm now labeled as a strong independent feminist? GG on reading, and I guess that applies to most of you. I am now both a feminist and a feminist hater within the span of a page, amazing.

Anyway, I still think sexy armor can be cool, and it can make the game more fun.

No, you're an idiot who we're parodying.

It's idiotic to suggest that going into a thread about something entirely different and slobbering over random women in images online where you have never met them about whether you would bang them or not as a 230 lb male with man-breasts is slightly perverted or disgusting?

I guess I wouldn't want to live in your world.

Anyway, do any of you people have any remaining actual commentary on the issue or are you just here to whine?

1) Long hair, doesn't fit in helm.

That one is a bit of a myth actually. The Spartans had long hair. So did the Vikings.

It's amazing how this thread is still alive.

It's amazing how people keep replying to fairly blatant attempts to wind them up. I have no interest in this topic, but I keep checking in every couple of pages to watch the train-wreck.

I guess that makes me a neo-puritan feminazi sexist leering fat greasy timid trainspotter, or something.

Well excuse me, ms. neutral, but do you have an opinion either? Ms. "I have no interest in the topic" yet I am here anyway for some reason not attempting to answer the thread question?

Do you people not possess the power of concentration? I'm beginning to suspect most simply aren't willing to take a stand on the answer because they simply do not know.

See how ridiculous the above design is, though? Especially in comparison to the male's.

Isn't that better? It still has that feminine touch, too.

Well thankfully someone at least answered the question. Yeah personally I think she looks kinda of hot, still, honestly, it's a bit more aggressive than most and not perfect, but I think it's fine. As for the man well this is an instance of the man being too conservative AFAIK, which can obviously happen also. He's the one being overly submissive now.

*Sigh* Well, anyway, I just disagree with the OP and all that. I mean, the idea that it's being "forced" upon the character isn't really good, but at the same time, when you make choices about these kinds of things I think it ends up being that way. All things considered though, I think DA is mostly more on his/her side of things in this respect, and probably won't be disappointed. However, it does mean other people (i.e. myself) might be less interested as a consequence.

Yeah, true. Thing is, if you try to satisfy both sides, you end up with an inconsistent and thus unbeliveable and unimersive world. If armour works like in reality, in that actual protection is required, you can't justify "sexy" armour. If armour works by "magic" in the sense that leaving gaping holes or obvious weakspots doesn't impact on its performance, there's no need to wear massive encumbering suits of armour for protection and people would wear lighter, more comfortable gear (that's not to say everyone would wear stripperific armour, just that taking on the extra weight of fully protective armour is a waste of energy given that it's clearly unnecessary for protection).

To be honest, as much as I dislike revealing armour, I would prefer a world where everyone wore it, than one with "choice" and "variety". At least then it would be internally consistent.

Again realism, and practicality. This is not even two side. I don't care about realist clothing. Sexy or not it's irrelevant. Especially in world there magic exists.

Satele have no armour, Malgus have so what, he still was crushed.

If armour is useless, as you seem to be implying, why bother with it at all? In which case, full plate make no sense, and no-one would wear it. Conversely, if armour is useful, then most "sexy" armour makes no sense. This particular issue is not about realism it's about internal consistency (although, I do admit I would like the former as well), which is something every setting, no matter how fantastic, should be trying to achieve. Set out the rules for how things work, and follow them. Don't just switch between "plate armour being highly useful" to "chainmail bikinis are fine" within the same setting.

Anyway, more images, because, well, images. Here's some which show off the wearer's femininity without being utterly impractical.

This outfit was shown from behind on the previous page, but this view clearly shows off the narrow waist, making it clear the wearer is a woman, but without being too impractical:

grace_holley_plate11.jpg

Up next, Sorsha (both the original and a cosplayer). A mix of leather and a bit of mail (and a cool helmet). This'd look great on a rogue or a lighter armoured warrior.

sorsha1-225x495.png

sorsha-willow-cosplay-dragoncon-2013.jpg

A female knight. Some curvature on the armour suggests she's a woman without having silly individual breast cups (Although, historically, some male armour was curved similar to this to deflect blows, by the standards of video game armour, it's feminine)

Oh yay, I get to be included in Kefka's continuing attempts to upset people. Okay, this is the only reply you get from me, but I'll try to address your points.

First, I'm male, so it's "Mr. Neutral" to you. No offence taken, it's an easy mistake since my avatar (a composite of DAI characters) uses Cassandra's head as a base, and the hair is Morrigan's, so the character looks female. The nose, ears, moustache and beard are all from the male characters though, so it's actually fairly balanced. There's also an Iron Bull eyepatch too, but it ended up covered by the hair.

Anyway, I came into this topic initially to read some views relating to it, but quickly lost interest. This was not, as you may suspect, due to a lack of the ability to concentrate, but more due to a lack of any desire to become involved in what had become petty squabbling between two factions of people who couldn't accept that people had opposing opinions. Then the topic mostly became you posting increasingly obvious attempts to bait angry reactions out of people, and I was surprised to see that people kept falling for it.

A few moments ago, I saw that this topic had risen up the board again, and thought to myself "I wonder what is happening in there now, it surely cannot still be people taking this person seriously?" I ventured into the topic out of a morbid curiosity rather than an interest in the topic's original purpose, and found that yes, people were still replying to you no matter HOW ridiculous you got. Even when you said that taste wasn't subjective, and that only yours was correct, people still continued to take you seriously. I confess that as a social experiment, I find it fascinating, and wonder how far you will go before people are no longer willing to engage with you. Unfortunately I expect the topic will be locked before we can find that out.

In terms of my initial opinion on what the thread was about before it turned into the Kefka comedy sideshow, I already posted in this topic. I tend to just pick the armour with the best stats, so I don't care too much how it looks so long as it doesn't look utterly terrible. Video games are escapism, so I don't need everything to be super-realistic. However they do need to be realistic enough not to make me sit up and say "That's stupid." If everybody is wearing stylised impractical gear, then fine, because everybody is doing it and it fits in with the rest of the game. If everybody else is wearing armour, then one person fighting in their underwear looks stupid. If it is supposed to be a Hazmat suit (not that there would be one in a Dragon Age game) like the one posted earlier, it would be stupid to have exposed flesh as you suggested it ought to, because it defeats the purpose of a functional Hazmat suit. I have no objection to sexy armour, provided it looks like sexy armour and not "Why did you even bother?" armour. In other words, I would take each armour on a case-by-case basis depending upon how well it fit the character and the style of the rest of the game. If it doesn't ruin immersion, great. If it just looks dumb, not great. Same as pretty much anything.

I hope that addressed your concerns since you were so eager to hear from me. Unfortunately if it didn't, that's all you get. I shall, however, continue to check in on the hilarity occasionally, for as long as the thread remains open.

Yeah a bunch of greasy pasty men leering over photos of women online, yeah that's a bit of lighthearted fun if I ever saw some.

Hey, im not greasy or pasty!

I guess that makes me a neo-puritan feminazi sexist leering fat greasy timid trainspotter, or something.

The male design is awful too.

Where male armor designs like the above often fail is not in lack of coverage, it is in the ridiculously exaggerated proportions of some of the individual pieces of armor. The pauldrons, gauntlets, and boots all look like they were designed for an Ogre. I'm not sure why some fantasy RPG devs are in love with big, bulky, and oversized for male armor designs. I suppose they think it looks bad@ss. I think it looks silly.

Compare the above to some realistic plate armor:

Agreed. Pauldrons especially. Feckin' pauldrons. I do not need something twice the size of my head sitting on my shoulder. Oddly enough I do actually want to be able to look to the side on occasion. Yet RPG armour designers so often seem to not even take this most basic idea into consideration.

Im ok with wearing both practical & sexy armour if there's a choice, just annoys me when there's 2 versions of the same armour & the female version is restricted to looking sexy while the male version looks practical

Yeah I don't mind if the female version is more feminine looking and has boob plate*see Skyrim's armor* but I absolutely hate when the female version of full armor is lingerie and stripper boots. <_<

Pauldrons and boots/sabtons tend to get hit the most with the oversized ridiculousness wand. Look how large that male character's feet are compared to the female character. It's like comparing an elephant's hoof to human's foot.

Weapons are quite often ridiculously oversized as well. I'm looking at you Hawke's Key...
