I'm reminded of a story in the "Chicks in Chainmail" series (It's a series of books of short stories that make fun of the "chainmail bikini" trope).  The King decides he wants to kick all the women out of the military, but he doesn't want to say that so he decides to do it in a less obvious way.  All armor is standard.  If you can't fit in the armor, you can't be a solider.  He then makes it so that pretty much any woman larger than an A is going to be VERY uncomfortable, if she can even wear it.  The women of course see right through his plan, and so they go to a wizard and get a magic potion that will remove their breasts.  Works great, until their husbands and boyfriends are like "WTF did you do?" and when the women explain, they all petition the King to stop being an idiot and let the women have properly fitted armor.

That's how i feel when wearing the armor in DA.....wtf were did my boobs go?!

For our Skyhold casual attire I would like an option or two that bares some skin, but for armor I'd be happy for form-fitting leathers or cloth which are practical while still being sexy.

Me, as long as its bikini armor on female, AND the male. Share the same type of armor between both genders. Having a choice isn't a problem as long as its equal to both genders.

 

 

Personally, I prefer the armor that I seen them all wear in DAI.

I think she overstates her case.

 

For one, the idea is not to strike where people are covered by plate armor. At least if we are talking about swords or pikes rather than weapons designed to puncture plate, like the pole axe, or weapons that kill by blunt force trauma like the war hammer. In either case, whether we are taking about weapons that puncture plate or weapons that kill by blunt force trauma, taking a full swing to the chest is going to be very bad. A person wearing standard plate would be just as dead as someone wearing 'boob armor.'

 

I'm also not convinced that someone would be killed by falling on 'boob armor.' I took a tumble off a small cliff with a flak jacket and a load bearing vest with magazines on my chest, and walked away with no major injuries. And that was falling from a greater height than someone who is on level ground. Also anyone who is falling is going to instinctively throw their hands out to protect themselves and will likely fall on their hands, unless they're unconscious. And if a person wearing plate armor is knocked unconscious they are going to be dead no matter what form of plate their wearing, because their opponent is going to administer the coup de grace.

 

'Boob armor' never really bothered me,  despite generally preferring armor designs based on those from history, because I think the argument that it wouldn't serve it's intended function (protection) is bit exaggerated. So long as the character's chest is completely covered by armor, whether or not that plate mimic's the female form, I'm okay with it.

i don't think the problem is that people don't like breasts, but rather why would an armorer go through the hassle of making separate sections of armor specifically for breasts. It seems just as valid to me as making two small indents in leg armor for a guy's testicles (ok maybe a slight exaggeration, but still a funny thought)

I like breasts... don't know about the rest of the crazies though... I think it's some of them got rejected by a... blessed girl in high school and have never gotten over it.

not everyone is built the same so one man's grape could be one man's watermelon, but that's not the point.

 

And true, i did reach when comparing one sex's primary sexual characteristics to the other's secondary, but what I was aiming for is why emphasize either? When playing, you know this character is male and that character is female. People got bent out of shape with eh George Cloony Bat-nipples and to me, breast-plate (as someone put it earlier) is just one minor step away from that.

Well, armor is actually fitted to the wearer, cant just pick up a set and put it on comfortably if not fitted for it and yes, boobs can be held in place.......chest wraps anyone?  no?  yes?  Chest wraps to tie down during martial training when no athletic bra's were available. Otherwise they would hurt themselves more without tying down. Ask the ladies if you can.

 

 

EDIT:  I don't play those MMO's that have bikini armor.  I am however, agreeing that choice is good, as long as it is shared between both male and female. I wont have an issue if both have the same effects wearing certain armors.

 

 

 

By the way.....what is the point of this thread?  Is it for DAI?  If so, then this is just a thread to fill in gap of time no till game releases?  If its not for DAI (which its too late anyways to bother with this stuff) then should be off-topic?

I still don't really see the reality argument. It's like, there is a reason people create games, because they just want to see the most fantastical amazing things and have these ultimate hero moments.

 

I'm sure on some level some sense of reality is being factored in, but I just can't really grasp it. I thought this character from a recent game I played was pretty cool. It's obviously at least intended to be attractive, but I guess you can tell she's a mage of some kind at the same time. Maybe that fits into the mage exemption... people don't seem to have as big an issue if it's cloth as compared to when it's plate mail, because of how little sense that makes.

 

Ah yeah... Her. Used her over Lymle. Her boobs are way too big in my opinion. I don't like how JRPGs designers do way too much fanservice... Although, this character's personality and storyline was actually the most mature one of the companions in Star Ocean 4. Can't remember her name... Myuria or something like that. Useful with the skill Fast Casting and Faerie Heal.

If said armorer could charge more money for it, I bet they would do it.

At least the fanservice is pretty equal. For every 'babe' there is a 'stud'.

I actually think its far more likely that the people pining for revealing armor are the ones who got/get rejected most irl. You aren't getting enough exposure to real people, so you want to see pixelated nudity.

And I never said anything about nudity, I was just wondering if people could even summon some sexual impulses what with all the anti-sexual outfit commentary. It's not unhealthy or immature to be interested in sex or attractiveness, I don't think reflecting that in game is a bad thing either.

JRPGs sometimes it happens anime it definitely does, but I don't appreciate the anti-fanservice of any kind approach DA has, I'd settle for at least something that looks good though, overly fan serviced or not.
