The funny thing is there is a pretty sizable interest from non-Asian countries in things like Anime or often JRPGs. Many JRPGs sell better outside of Japan than in Japan. Yet the reverse is virtually never true, and the reason for that is partially because these things really doesn't lie in the eye of the beholder. I can easily find dozens upon dozens of pictures where you are comparing one to the other, and one will win out for the majority of people the majority of the time.

Screw your majority & your generalizations. Some of us prefer full plate-armored femme fatales

I would be fine with more options for people who like skimpy, frilly armor, but it's really annoying me these assumptions you're making about how "everyone" thinks. Although, I suppose, I can't dismiss the possibility that that's how everyone except me thinks

I'm just saying, not everyone wants the kind of armor you do. I say it IS subjective, and ideally we could have both, but as for my preferences I could do without most of the so called "sexy" armor. I definitely wouldn't complain about more options and more varied options, though, if they were put in. The more inclusive the game is, the better, imo.

If you're gonna use WoW armour as least choose one of the better looking sets like Judgement:

I suppose the first one purely based on the clothing; I should point out this is between a dude and a chick, though. Also, TBH, I find neither really fantastic either way.

Adding this one to the other 3 options, I'd probably choose this one.

If you're gonna talk about sheer sales volume like it matters here, hope you're ready to defend Skyrim's armors as the sexiest stuff ever.

I tried to find a female one but it kept giving me the image extension error... it basically looks exactly the same though.

At any rate, it practically doesn't even matter, you found one you like better than all the others, if I had just used that one a consensus would of been achieved anyway.

My only point was that such a thing exists.

The game concept sold Skyrim more than aesthetics. A Skyrim set in the land of super-adorable outfits and crazy spells and so on would of sold 40 million.

Plus Skyrim wasn't really that terrible, it was average, but it wasn't bottom of the barrel. I feel like there were some decent cloth and leather... I think it was the Dark Brotherhood? They had some decent stuff.

A "consensus" between me and how many other people? JK, I'm sure you didn't mean it in that way  :P

That's such an unfair comparison though. Not only are you attempting to compare masculine vs. feminine, you're attempting to compare harsh vs. soft, light vs. dark, and two completely different styles of battle gear.

Something like this would be a much more fair comparison:

I just meant you are picking between different options, you aren't all, "oh my god cultural differences we have to put everything in the game because oh my god subjectivity" That's all.

As much as I like Triss I'm going to have go with the mage there. That one is sort of hard because Triss as a character is going to resonate somewhat regardless of what she has on her person.

Plus, I could just find something truly abhorrent, I thought that would be less interesting though.

The modding community has put those things in on PC.

So why hasn't it become the best selling video game of all time yet?

I have no idea which character is which, I just went with a google search that I found most comparable.

Either way, your first comparison was a bad choice and didn't prove your point.

Well, yes… I am human and do have preferences. I'm just saying that because there different people and different preferences, there is some subjectivity to opinion of armor. It's not all "human beings like sex and therefore love when people dress in this specific kind of 'sexy' armor"… That's not always true for everyone in all cases, is the only point I wanted to make.

As do I, but it's because I prefer the less winged-out, simpler silhouette. I don't find anything wrong with the first image, but I'd be less likely to play the game.

The modding community isn't as great as they think they are. It's kind of like transmogrification in WoW, supposedly you are able to correct the developer's mistakes, but having played that game I have basically never seen anything player-made that was really ever any good.

Plus you said the keyword "PC." They don't buy it on PC, I'm pretty certain.

Finally, even having the game on PC I don't mod it, that's the developers job to make things cool, not mine. I'm not going to compensate for their mistakes, I'm just going to try and find a game that does it right from the get-go.

I would just go with instinct, so what if it's not historically accurate? It's making a video game, for fun, not a documentary on the War of the Roses.

It's funny because a lot of the time people will just say things because they believe they have to, like, oh, society and game theory has told me this has to be realistic! This is the tenets of writing! Blah blah blah! But even then, if you ask simply for what they want, not what society tells them to think, or what the current paradigm on outfits in gaming is (which I saw a lot of people repeat like good little zombies), or what's correct, but just what you as a person or member of the human race want to see.

Or maybe they just like how those armor designs look, just like you like the frilly JRPG style ones. For both camps it's a matter of personal taste, not brainwashing.

Yes, my frilly girly soft BS crap-a-thon JRPG where the men are girls, something like that. So Han Shot First, how do you know about JRPGs, I take it therefore you have played some? Now why would that be. In the exceedingly rare instance that you really only ever have played and desire to play hardened staid CRPGs like Baldur's Gate and DA2, congrats on having the courage of your convictions.

It's funny because like would you call a CRPG like Diablo not frilly? The succubi in Diablo are signficantly more frilly and sexy than anything in most JRPGs. The only difference is that they're brazen caricatures of females and you slaughter them, oh Diablo, what would we do without your sexism.

Or there are the desire demons in DA. I think the only matter of personal taste is whether you want to dress your character in a hot outfit (JRPG), or mercilessly slaughter characters dressed in hot outfits in a hate filled vengeance quest (Diablo, Dragon Age). One way or another, it's in the game.

That's definitely a fairer comparison, but I still don't think it's a very good one. For example, I'd pick the 'sexier' one not because I enjoy sexy armor more than regular armor, but because I like the vibrant colors used. I find the second image's washed out look to be very unappealing next to it, especially for a magic user.

I'd argue that the modding community is better than you seem to think that they are. They're definitely a major reason that the game is still going as strong as it is on PC to this day even though it probably sold better on the Xbox 360 like virtually every multi-platform game of the last generation did.

Although really, the claim that Skyrim would have somehow doubled its sales if they used Final Fantasy looking armour is absurd at best. Even if the vast majority of people agreed that kind of armour looks better, not that many people buy a game based on the aesthetic of it.

I did my best.... Sorry. I actually really like the muted colours, simpler silhouette; I think the teal and olive are gorgeous.

I wouldn't choose the first image because I don't like the winged-out style, and I find it too bright.

What about this image, is it any better? 41826847af5f9f8ccb63b5703d16cc4d.jpg

No one called it a "BS crap-a-thon". It's just different. It's your subjective opinion that the styles found in the games are better. Just as it is my subjective opinion that they are not. Neither is objectively correct.

Pot meet kettle.

Are you trying to call me a hypocrite for having an opinion on the outfits? As if that means I'm somehow saying that objectively that outfit is better? I'm only stating my own personal opinion to which everyone should be entitled.

It certainly helps prop up the weaknesses in a thing arbitrarily rather than simply going out and enjoying something that is outright better. I can't fathom why people would do this, but they are certainly entitled to do so. I'm curious though, share with me this overwhelming Skyrim mod that makes the outfits really impressive.

If Skyrim had a more imaginative and fantastical aesthetic, combined with a world that emphasized similar things, I could of seen it working for a lot of reasons, probably not just entirely on the basis of outfit changes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had had a sizable impact.

Why yes, I am.

Oh really? Because having an opinion obviously means I don't respect anyone else's opinion and see mine as the absolute truth, right? To truly believe in the subjectivity of people's opinions on something, I need to be an unfeeling robot with no thoughts of my own? Sound logic, there.
