I like this:

hilde-soulcalibur-iv-screenshot.jpg

Surprising that she's a character in the Soul series, though.

About the only char I ever use in that game. The others look too big/skimpy. And look at that patterns

LOL, you're the one resorting to calling me names because you can't handle an honest question.  Your reaction to a picture of a woman who is a warrior is telling, as is your nasty attitude.  Get off the internet if you don't like people calling you out for pretty much freaking out about women wearing realistic armor in pictures.  Not every female character is going to wear "hot" armor, especially ones like Asha Greyjoy.  You can insult them all you like, but not everything is created for you.

I actually had trouble viewing the picture as female because the face structure just seems so very male. So, I wouldn't yell at them too much.

Fine, you and Remmirath are together on that one. For the most part though, I see a lot of adulation and attention for Japanese game armor/style/outfits, and virtually zilch for many western games, including potentially in this instance DA:I.

Worldwide, it seems to me the preferences are heavily skewed and so favors their general preferability amongst people. I count myself among them, I guess. And yes, I play JRPGs all the time, I played one earlier today, I just kind of take a break and go oh I want to play a PC game or something and there's nothing. I feel like most western developers are stuck in the stone age and are heckbent on jamming meathead toughguy characters and realism down my throat no matter what.

Sometimes it's ok, Witcher 2 had some pretty stylish stuff in there. Saskia was all right, at least. I just wish so many people wouldn't 1. pretend that they aren't leveraging sex or sex appeal in some way and 2. not feel guilty about it. DA doesn't have to be super realistic or super stylish, it can be whatever it really wants to be, right?

*snip*

In fact I got the statistics wrong, Soul Calibur V actually sold a lot more in NA/EU than Japan. I think the average western fan has more adulation and desire for J-games than even Japanese people do at this point.

I don't think I've ever played a meathead toughgay character in my life. BioWare is really good about giving their audience different choices and archetypes to play.

Just because they aren't conforming to your ideal standard of beauty doesn't mean DA isn't being what BioWare wants it to be. I find it plausible and I quite enjoy the look of most armours in the DA universe.

I think the whole point of this thread was to debate about sexy/fantasy vs realistic armor for woman and not about how attractive they are. The whole point is that it does not diminish a woman attractiveness when she wear a  more realictic armor. But than what you was talking about is .. ''how she look like a dude'' and not '' That armor look fine on her''. Why it's always turn around their attractiveness when what she is doing has nothing to do with it ?

It like these guy insecure around intelligent woman and always ending up with banal sexism insult. hell I was just watching a stream of USF4 .. Player .. competition. When a woman showed up everyone was talking about her ''BOOB SIZE'' and rating her on a scale of 1-10. THis stupidity is turning myself ( A hetero guy) into a feminism.

*snip*

Absolutely the topic is about realistic armour, and no one was saying that the female in the photo was being diminished by wearing proper armour.

However, I believe the caption lost its momentum and impact when it used a photo so androgynous that the audience can't actually tell the gender. It's a perfectly attractive picture, but the facial structure just seems incredibly male in the nose bridge and jaw line.

better pic for female in "realisitic" armor

never mind I was going to post a pic of kristen stewart in the armor from snow white and the huntsman but I can't find a good one. I know there is one somewhere.

I think the waist part would start acting like a  corset after a while... which has to hurt like hell, but otherwise is nice

Well I mean, most armours depicted zip in at the waist for women, but this one looks like it was drawn in her measurements instead of pulling and narrowing like an actual corset does.

Here, this one stops at her waist and continues in mail, instead of looking like a corset.

LOL, you should totally make a meathead toughgay character. Seems like it'd break some stereotypes, which is something I'd support  :P

Seriously, for myself, I probably won't ever make a meathead character, or a gay (m/m) one for that matter. Options are cool, though. Also, Bioware's definitely conforming to my ideal standards of beauty with Cassandra's character, so I feel pretty lucky right now :)

I've been watching aliens from quite some time. and shocking news some women can look somewhat masculine... still think sigourney weaver looks good but at least in this pic I wouldn't say she looks feminine. granted it could be the fact she's about 3 inchs from making out with a cute woman which just by comparison can throw perception off.

Still looks feminine in the nosebridge, jaw and forehead area. At least to me.

There's a difference though in not looking feminine, looking androgynous and then honestly being sure you're looking at the opposite gender. In that photo Sigourney looks like a woman.

In the magical world of Thedas, I say what works works.  If it's not plausible by uhhhhhhhhhhh any stretch of the imagination.   Then, nope.   Sorry.

Gee, let's see my Inquisitor just got flamebroiled by that dragon and she's in a metal bikini, with metal things sticking her who knows where, and she's not only walking away, but doing so at full health?

No.  Just hell no.

Ok well you don't know what you're talking about, what kind of fantasy land do you live in ? Some westerns do have a weird version of oriental mysticism when it comes to Japan but to say that there is lots of "adulation" for japanese design and none for Western games is just absurd(of the best selling games this year, so far, none are Japanese)

"western developers are stuck in the stone age"

W..T...F.?! How can you say that when you're defending JRPGS, with their interchangable characters, identical styles, convoluted storylines and kindergarden philosophy ?

Plus if you're so much better than them, why not try your hand at some designs? lets see what you've got.

^ So true, so true.

And about the JRPGs. I always hated the style so I couldn't bring myself to play them, but one day, decided to give them the chance.

Started with my PSP first.

"The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky" - snorefest, unimaginably boring.
then
"Jeanne d'Arc" - another boredom (this one was serious WTH ???? this doesn't have anything to do with the real Jeanne, so why even use her name, blasphemy)
then so famous
"Persona 2" - few hours of painful grinding and I gave up, after falling asleep due to boring story and characters.

Then on PC. And that was it.
"Final Fantasy 7 remake" no comments, this one was the worst one I think and the final nail in the coffin of my experiments with JRPGs.

All those games feels to me like made by the same dev, like they are exactly the same.

Everywhere silly characters, silly stories, a lot of fluffy pink/violet hairs, ridiculous armors and outfits, weapons twice the size of the person wielding it ........

I was like

Spoiler

If the "western developers are stuck in the stone age" the the Japanese ones probably just camed down from the trees.

So Kefka, now you see how easy it is to judge something you don't like and make funny of it.

Awesome armour is sexy
What can be sexier than an armour which shields your internal organs, skin and body and makes you an unstoppable death machine?
Metal bikini and loincloth are just pffffft pathetic in comparison

Proportionally? Because the population of NA/EU is approximately 1,031,700,000, while the population of Japan is approximately 127,300,000. That's over 1bn compared to 127million. Of course SCV will sell more total units in NA/EU.
