All the council races have a military -- except I have never heard anything about the Salarian military. I did just about everything to save lives and recruit people, but in honest I do not even remember them joining me in the battle over Earth. I know they have their STG, but is that it? I know they took part in the Krogan Rebellion, but that was a long time ago. I am not opposed to the idea of a society of pacifists, but I still think that every society has to have at least some type of force to defend itself. When I first went to Sur'Kesh I thought I would see organic looking Salarian tanks fighting Reapers, but that was never case. The Elcore never argue, yet they arm their troops like tanks. What do Salarian's have?

They have a fleet, I'll try and get a link.

EDIT: here we are all the known Salarian military assets in the reaper war. http://masseffect.wi...Assets/Salarian

That is it? I am guessing you get the fleets if you did what Dalatrass wanted?

They have the third largest fleet according to the lore. The Alliance comes in at fourth. Not much is said about Salarian ground forces beyond the STG, but it's probably safe to assume that they also have an army.

The war assets are kind of borked as far as the Salarians go, in that they are really underrepresented compared to how they are described in the lore. There probably should have been a few more Salarian fleets at least.

If you choose the Salarians over the Krogran, would you get more war assets? I am wondering because the Krogran do not have any military, and sense the lore says they have third largest fleet?

Yes.  It also helps  if the salarian councilor is alive after the coup.

I thought the STG was their army. Or was it their special forces.

They really didn't do much for the war effort. Mordin did the most. They meddle. They were going to uplift the Yahg.

Pyjaks are useless and they add negative war assets.

I would think the STG would just be a special operations unit within the army.

It seems their military is more focused on espionage and subterfuge, in averting a military threat before the need arises to actually use it, than in actual combat. Though, as we see on Sur'Kesh, they CAN fight, it's just that they prefer their wars won before they start.

Keep in mind that you visited Sur'kesh when the reapers were not invading it; also likely at a special STG facility considering Mordin.

To answer your question though; yes they have a military. Here is in fact the relevent codex explaining their military. Long story short, they possess a military like the alliance but due to their focus on espionage it is not a convectional military.

Salarians: Military Doctrine

In principle, the salarian military is similar to the Alliance, a small volunteer army that focuses on maneuver warfare. What differentiates the salarians is not their equipment or doctrine, but their intelligence services and rules of engagement. The salarians believe that a war should be won before it begins.

Conventional wisdom holds that the salarians know everything about everyone, and this is not far from the truth. In war, the unquestioned superiority of their intelligence services allows them to use their small military to maximum effectiveness. Well before fighting breaks out, they possess complete knowledge of their enemy's positions, intentions, and timetable.

In every war the salarians have fought, they struck first and without warning. For the salarians, to know an enemy plans to attack and to let it happen is folly. To announce their own plans to attack is insanity. They find the human moral concepts of "do not fire until fired upon" and "declare a war before prosecuting it" incredibly naive. In defensive wars, they execute devastating preemptive strikes hours before the enemy's own attacks. On the offensive, they have never telegraphed their intentions with a declaration of war before attacking.

Biotics are virtually unknown in the salarian military. Those with such abilities are considered too valuable to be used as cannon fodder and assigned to the intelligence services.

While capable of defending themselves against most threats, the salarians know that they are small fish in a universe filled with sharks. As a point of survival, they have cultivated strong alliances with larger powers, particularly the turians. Though the relationship between the two species was rocky at first due to the krogan uplift fiasco, the salarians take pains to keep this relationship strong enough that anyone who might threaten them risks turian intervention.

Something along the lines of, "When this is over, i have to go back through that fog by myself." ?

Instead of having the option to lie to the Krogran, there should have also been an option to cure the Genophage and lie to the Dalatrass. I am certain she would have eventually figured it out, but not before giving me my war assets.

You would lose those assets like you do when sabotaging the genophage with Wrex in charge

Unless that underrepresentation is really true in-universe because most of the Salarians sat on the sidelines during the final battle.

Even if you sabotage the genophage though you don't get much in the way of Salarian war assets. If Shepard sabotages the genophage you get the 1st and 3rd Salarian Fleets, the STG, and potentially Mordin.

Think of it this way...

Salarians = Little green ninjas with science degrees.
Krogan = Berserker-pirates without ships.

Ever listen to that story from the datapad in Anderson's apartment, where he talks about meeting a spectre for the first time? The salarian spectre beat the hell out of the guys who were beating the hell out of Anderson. While it was indeed awesome, it kinda made me wonder what was wrong with Jondam Bau? He should have never that guy even get close enough to get a chokehold on him. Like, the hell?

That whole side quest was ridiculous. There was nothing that Shepard did that Bau couldn't have done for himself. And that choke hold? Come on man, Salarians have longer arms than Humans do. All he had to do was deliver a swift blow to the guys trachea(only 33 lbs) to kill the poor SOB.
