(In the Genesis flood narrative, of the Hebrew BibleYahweh decides to flood the earth because of the depth of the sinful state of mankind.)

Perhaps this is the Makers latest attempt to rid himself of his creations?  Mayhaps this is his divine plan and the "Elder One" is just his minion or instrument in which to carry it out, and these tears but another tool at his disposal. Maybe the Andrastians shouldn't resist so hard and accept this divine judgement. Maybe the real villain is the spirit that imbues the Inquisitor with its power to close tears? Maybe it truly is Andraste's spirit and she is having a disagreement with her spiritual husband and is trying to fight back?

Mayhaps the Inquisitor is Noah in this, and he can only save but so many people before the Maker wipes the slate clean so to speak.

i thought it a funny parallel, and wanted to share it with you guys.

Faith and religion are said to play big parts in the game and the Last Supper and God crating man Easter eggs are nice touches. An interesting analogy.

I prefer this idea to the Chantry's idea that the Maker is just a very passive-aggressive deity.

Interesting idea, but the Elder One says "Bow before your new God" in the trailer, so I think it's unlikely for him to be the Maker's minion.

Although, that would be a really funny way to think of the situation XD :

i never though of that before. it makes sense, they already used the image of the war table to match the last supper. i'm thinking there will be a lot of religious themes in this game. after all the eldar one even tells you to call on the maker to stop him.

Not to be a nit picker but the tears are in the Veil.

Rift is just a school of magic.
