You guys do realize that the Wardens are basically an autonomouse military force right? And just like serving the armed forces your not entirely free and there are plenty of times where you have to go where your told and do what your told to do without questioning your "superiors" yes?
Better to be a Circle mage or Warden mage?

Having recently played Dragon Age 2, I'm going with Warden. I suppose some of this would depend on which Circle and where (Fereldan seems friendlier than Kirkwall), but in any of them the Templars have too much control over your life and decisions, and where there is that level of control there will be abuse. You'd hope for benign masters, but in the lore it doesn't always work that way, and the Circle mages do not have a lot of recourse when they are abused.
Being a Warden would be no picknick, but personally I would rather live better and die younger than live a long life under Templar control.

Since being a Tevinter Magister or being an Apostate is not an option I say would rather be a Warden Mage. Well...hmmm I actually now that I think about it..I'm not sure, I mean being in a Circle would not be horrible if you rose through the ranks and were in a Circle like Ferelden's. Then again there are few Circles like Ferelden's so I say a Warden Mage since you have more freedom, and actually have a life. Even if that life is shorter than what it would had been if you were a Circle Mage, I still find it better because there is no life in most Circles...just existance.

circle cause you can live a full a life while warden mages will have to be killed cause of the taint in them.

It pains me to say it...but I'd be a circle mage. If you're skilled enough, you can be like Vivienne and live a life of luxury rivaling the richest of nobles. I know she's pretty much an anomaly but...it's a possibility.

I'd choose to be a Warden Mage over the Circle Mage, less things were improved a lot from being just prisoners. Apostate is second choice, again, unless circle is improved.

Circle mage definitely. You're, sheltered, fed, provided for and once you prove you're not a lunatic or a demon worshiper you can go frolicking along the countryside doing whatever you want like Wynne and Innes the botanist without being forced to fight darkspawn, and die a horrible guaranteed death at around 40.

Neither.
I love playing as a mage, but I'd hate to actually be one in the DA universe.
As a Circle Mage you're locked up and not allowed to have sex (Anders does mention that they have sex anyway, but I would hate to hide like school children) and if you have children they're taken away from you.
Wardens can't even have children and end up dying fairly quickly.
Both as a CM and Warden you have to "earn" the right to go where you want and be free... no thanks.
As for the other options...
If I was a Tevinter mage I'd die pretty quickly for being a softie.
An apostate might be the lesser of the evils if I could live like Flemeth/Morrigan...

It depends on what you value most.
Freedom not toi be pursecuted for being different, The Grey Wardens
The Comfort of not fighting for your life everyday, The Circle of Magi

Considering you get the taint as a Warden, and how alot of places give them shifty eyes for political reasons, the persecution thing isn't necessarily completely gone

well, given the state of the circle right now, i would have to choose circle, because (if i survived the rebellion to get out of my tower and assuming my phylactery was destroyed) I would technically be free. Course i wouldnt go join in the war either, i would either take refuge with the wardens like in Last Flight or i would try and make my way to tevinter (if im human), or just wander into the countryside of a country not called orlais and hide my identity like malcome hawke did...
now if we are talking before the rebellion, I.E. with circles still fully in tact.... i would go warden, yeah, ferelden has a nicer policy with their tower than others, but the chances of me being there wouldnt be high. Wardens have more freedoms, and though they have to follow orders. Plus, life expectancy in middle age times wasnt past like 35 so living till im like 40 and going on my calling is technically a full life by those standards

A Circle mage, by far. I wouldn't want that life, but the life of a Warden is awful. You're still not free, only you get to travel to all the worst places in Thedas, see broodmothers, ghouls and darkspawn corruption. You'll have nightmares, whispering in your head that grows as you age. If you wanted kids, you still can't really have them. And you'll die young, in a horrible way.
If you're really lucky, you'll be a Warden during the Blight: stronger nightmares, more horrors, and possibly dying even younger.
Tbh, if I was a mage, I'd want to be Dalish or an apostate, and even they have the short end of the stick in some way. Maybe a Rivaini seer?

I'd prefer circle to the taint anyday, but taint rather than tranquillity. I'd say Circle.

In terms of living a circle mage. Atleast then you do not have to end up in deep roads to die fighting darkspawn. A circle mage can stay his whole life in the circle or, if succeful, live his life as a renegade mage outside. Warden mage doesn´t have that option.

I think the best option is the Dalish if you're elven.
Tevinter is still a bad choice because remember, mages can be slaves too. If you're not born into the aristocracy or extremely powerful then you're still nothing.
Rivaini seers are probably a good second choice.

Anders said that in the circle in Ferlidin people were having sex all the time, and Wynn clearly had a son while in the circle. I'd rather live as an apostate to be honest. I would be easy enough to live undetected, just dont walk around with a staff on your back. Easy.
But to answer the OP's question, I choose the circle. I never liked the Wardens, and having the taint just sounds awful.

First choice would be apostate, and dalish, but after that Circle -comfortable living conditions, lots of books and become a big enough expert on something and you get some freedom. If people know you're a mage you'll be dealing with distrust and hate no matter where you live at least in the Circle your not dealing with it alone.
No one survives joining the wardens the variable is how long it takes to kill you.

Saying that, I would be a warden, not because of the extra freedoms you gain but because I actually agree with their goals and would find it to be a worthy cause to dedicate myself to. I think the shorter life span is a fair trade off, for the opportunity to fight the darkspawn, also could do some avernus stuff to extend that lifespan, lots of cool secret knowledge to get access to, spells no others know, very cool, also get to see some of the world.

The only time I would even consider being a Warden is during a Blight.
Otherwise, I'd be fighting for the reformation of the Circles.
