A couple of things, to clarify without giving away much in the way of spoilers:

The Warden of DAO will not be seen in-game, as you already know.

He/she is more than simply mentioned in passing, however. There is some story, though I won't say more than that.

If you were expecting DAI to be "the continued adventures of the DAO Warden", however, then no, it will definitely not be that. I feel quite comfortable in saying that will never happen, sorry.

Well, I respect and accept this decision....but for me it is also a little bit unfair, because Mike Laidlaw already confirmed that Hawke/The Champion will appear in-game, and that you can customize his/her appearrance. So why not do the same for The Warden? DA:O was in my opinion one of the greatest RPG´s ever made and this game has a very special place in my heart and now for the Warden not making an appearance, makes me also disappointed! You could at least give him a cameo or something like that. I never wanted DA:I to be the continued adventures of the DAO Warden............

Well if person cares about warden to the point it is for them "must buy" such person would rather follow such things or at least search for information whether warden is in game or not in fact all you need to do is read comments under trailer on yt.Bio was rather quick in telling us it wasn't the warden peoples were trying got around it in fuct some people still are trying to do that.If devs use that i rly can't blame them for them as peoples would do that anyway...

It's not about the Warden.

It's about the Warden, Hawke, and the Inquisitor. On the screen. At the same time.

Except it's NOT the Warden

Some people are just void of dramatic sense.

So I guess it's now official that George R.R. Martin is working as a story consultant for Bioware... :(

The entire Dragon Age franchise was inspired by (read: ripped off from) George R.R. Martin.  I remember being none too pleased about that when it was said during hype building for DA:O since I never liked Martin's work.  But I'm a longtime BioWare fan and decided to play it anyway, and I'm glad I did.

So, in any case, I always try not to get too attached to main characters since their entire "thing" is killing them off or making them suffer horribly.  Which in my opinion is a cheap way to wring an emotional response from the players, but oh well.  Even Shakespeare wrote some happy endings.

We just prefer that Bioware stop desecrating the character. DAA was bad enough.

I see no "desecration". Would you care to explain? Apart from that, I am rather suspicious of a mindset that would use the term "desecration" in this context.

There is no evidence that Bioware will do anything demeaning, horribly disfiguring etc. to the Warden. I don't even think they'll kill them unconditionally, though their survival may depend on decisions made in DAO.

Would people please stop putting their own fears into statements by developers and writers? There has been nothing said that would even remotely justify a statement like this (assuming it refers to GRRM's predilection to kill characters, which is greatly overstated anyway)

A valid concern for readers of GRRM's books, but not for Dragon Age, as yet.

Indeed. No need to assume worst case scenarios here. I didn't see anything in David's posts that said, "prepare for death and bitter tears!" - you know, beyond his normal subtext anyway. :)

How was the Warden's appearance in Awakening "desecrating" the character?

Warden alive:

Congratulations, you saved Ferelden from the Blight and survived. You're now Warden-Commander since someone is needed who's respected and trusted enough by the people to run Amaranthine, as well as because there's still some cleanup that needs doing, since for some reason the Darkspawn still haven't all returned underground? Just because you saved the world, you still have a job to do!

Warden dead:

The Blight is over! Unfortunately, most of the Wardens in Ferelden are dead. We're going to need a new Warden-Commander to oversee the clean-up and running of Amaranthine... Alistair is not an option, since he's King/exiled/dead/probably going to threaten to quit if given the job. If Loghain was recruited, the Fereldan people are never going to trust him to lead another army after what he did at Ostagar, so he's out too. Sure they'll hate an Orlesian Warden taking the post, but who else is there?

Perhaps you should've put a :P into your post then, instead of a :(. It didn't come across that way.

That was not a cliffhanger.

It was, at best, an unresolved plot point. You might also call it "sequel bait", if you prefer, but a cliffhanger is where the central conflict of the story is left unresolved pending the next chapter--and is generally done in dramatic fashion to leave you "hanging" in anticipation.

Wanting every lingering question answered is understandable, but that does not make it a cliffhanger. And, yes, I know that is pedantic of me, but I work with words, so there you go.

Well, it was an unresolved plot point, but it was one that showed up in literally the closing moments of the game.  I'd hardly call that "wanting every lingering question answered"  ;)

They could easily bring the warden back! I would not have a problem if the warden would be just wearing the black armor you get from the Awakening DLC and it would look different of course depending on the wardens class he or she would have helm or a hood covering the face.

Agreed. I really liked DAA, though I get why people wouldn't.

tbh I'm sort of glad the Warden wouldn't necessarily be seen in the game, and that's speaking as a person who adored her Warden way more than her Hawkes.

Hawke was, I thought, much easier to channel into fewer characterisations because everything was in some way given to one of three 'tones' along with how the VA chose to deliver the lines. I'm not saying that's a bad thing because it gave conversations a more living feel. I addition it gives them a sort-of consistent 'feel' to the character that makes it a bit easier to have them return outside player control. You only have to hear the voice and see the armour and 'oh, it's Hawke!!'

But the Warden would be much harder to line up imo, because not only do they not have a real voice in conversation (and three or four to choose from per race and gender outside cutscenes) but since the lines aren't read you can read them however you want. So while a writer might intend a line to be honestly inquisitive you could yourself read it totally sarcastic. So for me, it's much more likely that my Warden would differ from what I intended for her than my Hawke if either was brought back out of my control. I don't think either would be ruined at all, but people get prickly about characters they've spent so much time with, so I can' blame people for being a bit fatalistic.

That said, a Warden that had been rendered mute by injury or otherwise and had to use sign language or have Hawke/Alistair/whoever translate for them would be both pretty funny and really cool.
