Well if our Warden gets possessed/ transformed by the Elder One then the warden "sort of" appearing makes sense. But will Bioware do it though?

I think it was confirmed that we wouldn't be seeing them in game at all

Just references, but apparently a lot more in depth than how it was in DA2

Like Mr. Gaider said, They still have a story around them, so hopefully they will be somehow helping the inquisition :-)

I'm not saying that the Warden isn't a complete and total badass who killed a lot of things, as well as having a lot of connections with some very powerful and important players. But if we take that logic and run with it, then we're going to end up debating whether or not the Warden shouldn't be running the whole show instead of a complete and utter n00b who's only important because they've got a glowing palm?

The Warden not running the show could be due to various details.  Frankly, I would not want the Warden to be at the center of the game.  I like the idea of a new protagonist.  However, it seemed that you were initially implying that without a Blight, the Warden is not relevant.  I was simply disagreeing with you and the reasons I already stated are why.

DAA forces you to not just continue as a Warden (i.e., as a formal part of the organisation) but thrusts you into a leadership position that you seem to gleefully accept. It would be one thing if - like DAO - there was some reason to be forced into it. But you become the Warden Commander without any outside impetus because, apparently, you now <3 Wardens. Despite the fact that DAO did not require you identify or agree with the Warden organisation at all, and in fact you weren't even really a Warden in any meaningful way since you knew nothing about the order, had no actual formal contact with it since you just joined, and the only other Warden with you didn't know jack about the order or what it did beside kill darkspawn.

But in DAA you suddenly become a loyal stalwart of the order.

That's character assassination. Like a sole survivor Shepard who's suddenly real cool with Cerberus. Or a pro Cerberus Shepard who's suddenly super cool with the alliance.

Odd. It didn't come across that way to me. I was acting as the ruler of a province primarily, which usually is exactly NOT a Warden's task. That I was a Warden was useful because there was a darkspawn threat, and it was important because the Architect wanted Warden blood, but those are passive elements I don't have a problem with.

I guess if you're hostile to the Wardens you could take issue with canonically performing Joinings that aren't strictly necessary, but that's about the extent of it.

i thought it was weird as well, in origins there was no wardens just a few people taking on the world.  If alistair would have used his head for once, we would have ignored the blight and reported to the wardens on the border of ferelden as is the warden's duty....  wardens arent sworn to any country, and i found it really odd how we just all of the sudden wound up ignoring most of the rules in our order and get praised for it.  Where as in Da2 when the qunari are invading the wardens basically tell you to go f*ck yourselves cause we dont get involved, which is the total opposite of what our warden did in origins.  Da2s wardens really set the scene for me in terms of what a warden should be....  Origins just felt like i was just some wandering badass, not a part of an order

Disappointed that we won't see our Warden again in Inquisition. David noted that he seems to think that it's because he went missing that we expected him, but to me -and probably many others- it's not the fact that the Warden went missing that had everyone expect him, it's that DAII ended with this huge tease in which Cassandra and Leliana were looking for Hawke and the Warden, which suggested they were important in the next game. Heck, Cassandra's main goal in DAII was tracking down the both of them to get things fixed. Combine this with that tease where Hawke shows up accompanied by an unidentified Warden and of course we'd be expecting our Warden to show up.

I'll get over it and have tons of fun with inquisition anyway, but it was something that I'd been looking forward to.

David Gaider's first post is enough for me. Thanks for clearing that up!

I'd have quoted it, but my work laptop doesn't allow that for some reason.

Here is my ultimate problem with no including the Warden.

1. We don't know the resolution to his/her story, unless they died but seriously they could have finished  it in a number of ways but nope we got he.she "disappeared" great writing that is how I concluded my stories when I was 12.

2. They are bring back characters from DA:O that should be with the Warden depending on the players choices of course. It seriously pisses me off that they bring back these major characters and don't think we would expect a decent through-back to the Warden. It is cool to have new protagonist I'm for that but it is pretty hard to let the others go unless they have a resolution and a bloody good one, and then don't have characters that should be by there side return makes little sense, they will explain it but what are we gonna get a one liner like the DLC in DA:2 with Leliana I think it was something like "He was dear to me" something along those lines yup answered all my questions

3. They bring back Hawke??? seriously you want to remind me of DA:2 the only reason I am a fan is because of DA:O better in every aspect and I'm buying DA:I because I am hopeful the team can set the franchise right.

Seriously though the BS is getting old a blunt answer would be nice nothing ambiguous or left to interpretation either include him/her or don't and state that cheap teases are not cool

Either way this rant is pointless the decision has already be made and this post will get unnoticed but I have high hopes for this game it would be nice to resolve the story to my favorite character (ME! from DA:O) but I doubt they will :)

You can just skip Awakening and go straight to GOA/Witch Hunt/DA2 if you want. Awakening is optional and not mandatory for the Wardens story.

DAA happens no matter what if your Warden is alive. And we have no indication the Keep will let you have BOTH a living Warden AND a living Orlesian Warden.

Please. That's an exaggeration if I've ever heard one. You think that once word reached Weisshaupt of the HoF and the Fifth Blight the First Warden would just shrug and say 'next'? It's one thing to not enjoy being a Warden. It's another to shirk your duty. The Warden ends a Blight, in a year, with no back up except for Alistair/Loghain and Riordan. If they're anything it's dutiful.

Who gives a fig about the First Warden? If he has a problem his skull is going to sit right next to the archdemon. By the end of DAO you've killed hundreds of people, hundreds of darkspawn, demons and at least one dragon, one borderline god in Flemeth, and one actual (or almost) god in the archdemon.

There's no such thing as "duty" unless your character believes in it.

Wanting to save your home in Ferelden has nothing to do with giving a **** about the Wardens. If I fought in an underground resistance to repel a foreign invader that doesn't suddenly make me diehard loyal to the military of my country even if I was conscripted into it.

You're ruling the province for the benefit of the Wardens. You're explicitly told this is done as a way to expand the order's influence. There is no indication of any substantial darkspawn threat looming over Ferelden when you take the post. That there are rumours of darkspawn doesn't mean you can't go off on your own to investigate, which is basically what you do when you go joy-ridding off for Morrigan in WH.

Cass wasn't tracking the Warden. Neither was Leliana. There is just one line about the Warden also disappearing, as some kind of notable after the fact development.

The warden is the most powerful person in that universe I mean by the time I did With Hunt my warden was a level 35 mage had all the abilities almost I mean he was invincible. He sure as hell must be either in this game or the next one.

Level 35? How quaint, my most recent Hawke and his crew were level 50 (thank you developer console). :P

I think so. It's no biggie. I only use that on my lunch break.

Anyway, how do you think this story stuff will play out without The Warden making an appearance?

I think the Warden will be around and doing his/her own thing. Wether it's like helping the inquisition, or being possessed and doing bad stuff lol
Atleast we'll hear about it

Can't see Bioware going the possessed route unless they were going to appear on screen so it's looking good for them going the Badass Behind the Scenes route. :)

If your warden felt obligated to stop the blight, I'm pondering why he couldn't go out of his way to make sure it he cleaned the last remaining things up. Loyal or no, the DAA epilogue told me my warden left after all was said and done. Chasing Morrigan was more important for my warden.

DAA wasn't character butchering as much as it was a logical expansion given that it was hinted in the epilogue that there was trouble in Amaranthine. That Bioware didn't create a travel simulator where you traveled across the world with X companion / Love interest is fairly understandable.

That's just some of my opinion though, no need to go spread it around.

I can't speak to anyone else's opinion on this, but it seems to me that BioWare has put a great deal of work into meeting the considerable challenge of balancing its vision to move the franchise forward with a desire to enable fans to reunite with their Wardens in some way.  In the best of circumstances that is a tough trick to pull off, so I'm particularly intrigued to see how the creative minds at BioWare approached this issue.

A Warden appearance in Inquisition would have been incredibly satisfying for me personally, but I understand that moving the story forward must be the primary focus.  That BioWare has made the effort to include some Warden related content means a LOT to me & I would like to thank them for that.  If there is a way to see our Wardens again in a future game that is congruent with their vision, nothing would please me more, but if it would not serve the story, I can accept that.  Warden or not, more Dragon Age is always a good thing & I'm so looking forward to enjoying Inquisition.

Damm thats disappointing I wanted to see The Warden in Inquisition again

well I really hope that the cliffhanger from DA2 will be resolved otherwise I will be pissed

if they never wanted the Warden to return why say he is disappeared?? very bad decision on Bioware's part they

went for the cheap shocking cliffhanger instead of respecting the players Warden

And this ^ is why I'm not preordering the game. As awesome as it sounds, I can't tolerate BioWare taking a crap all over a character I love (like with Shepard). My favorite Warden (and my second favorite Warden) married Alistair, and there's no way in hell she'd walk away from him. My guess is they'll have either killed the Warden or he/she just disappeared after some traumatic BS and is either assumed dead or never be seen again. That Alistair is going to make an appearance, and Anora will as well, makes me think they've decided to force the two of them together and the hell with the Warden. Alistair wouldn't marry that ******, not after he got the throne on his own. Blech!

I'll wait until others play it so I can see if I'm right about my speculation. If I am, they can keep the game. If they actually do the Warden's story justice, and put her back where I freaking put her, I'll get it. I'd rather head canon what happened to her (she's knocked up, used something Avernus found to get rid of the taint from her and Alistair, and is staying low until the baby is born due to a plot to assassinate her) than have BioWare ruin it all like they did in ME3.
