You know and I know that it was a lazy ass non committal cop out so people couldn't fanboy rage about having no choice in the matter and also so they wouldn't have to animate and code different content for different characters after harbingers beam. Anyway who's to say that the breathe scene isn't shepards final breath? - it might as well be given the amount of effort and thought that went into it to differentiate it from regular death.
