Do you prefer your gaming experience to be challenging or something you can breeze through? When it comes to games with compelling stories such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age I tend to keep the difficulty low so I can be more focused on the story and not die. I just like things to be more easy in story driven games. (Plus I'd probably get wrecked anyway) So how about you?

Usually my first couple of playthroughs are on the lowest difficulty to enjoy the story and the character interactions. After that, I will raise the difficulty level to make it more challenging for the combat.

Exact same thing I do

Always challenging. I don't enjoy easy games. I don't even enjoy intermediate games to be honest. I like games that force me to play to the best of my ability. It's certainly the most gratifying, imo.

For my first play run, I want to be able to only be concerned for my PC except during mini bosses and bosses. So a good amount of challenge but not so much that it sours my drive to play the story.

I've never much liked uber-challenging games. I don't want it easy, per se, but I don't want it so challenging I'm more frustrated than enjoying myself.
I'm sure an argument could be made that super challenging games are gratifying when you finally complete it, and that's all well and good, but a shard of glass in the urinary tract would be gratifying when it's finally out, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a bugger to have in there in the first place.
...I...don't know where I was going with that analogy.

Depends on the game, but for BW games I always go for maximum challenge.
In general, I have to actually enjoy the gameplay in order to want to go for challenge though (which is the case for BW games).
It's also important for immersion if I'm actually invested in the story (it's jarring to see things that are supposed to be hard go down easily).

I prefer combat to be just difficult enough to keep me paying attention, but not so difficult that I feel like it's a chore to keep my stats up so I don't get murdered by a trash mob.
So basically Normal/Hard in DA2, or Hard in DA:O. Some difficulty, but it doesn't hinder my story progression.

I prefer easy playthroughs. I don't think story driven rpg's should be designed around hardcore gamers. Plus if you are going to bother with difficulty settings then easy should be easy...I really don't care how hard Nightmare is, go crazy with it. I won't touch it!

I get bored very easily if a game isn't challenging. Mowing down enemies who can't hope to defeat me is not fun.

Somewhere in the middle between those two extremes, I suppose. I like a bit of a challenge, but not so difficult that it takes endless trial-and-error and lots of frustration before you can finally get through an area or past a 'boss.'

I hate dying over and over. I have a short fuse when it comes to games so dying over and over is why I play on easy. The people who can play on nightmare are awesome but im not going anywhere near that i like to have my controller in one piece.

I always tend to play on the easiest settings on these types of games, I'm in it for the story not the gameplay.

So how about you?
i see no connection between difficulty and story. and i don't understood how one can influence other.
however, bad game design can have direct impact on plot and difficulty.

I prefer a nice balance of the 2. Hell, I've beaten ME1 on Insanity as an Engineer (was hard as hell too.... damn krogan headbutts...) and beat ME2 on Insanity as a Vanguard. I also regularly played through ME3 on Insanity and that was barely a challenge. Beaten DA2 on hard a couple times but I haven't gone any higher and I don't play DA:O on hard or nightmare because of the friendly-fire. I love my AoE attacks! ![]()
tbh, playing ME2 on Insanity actually made it feel realistic, since every single fight was a challenge. Really helped with the immersion. ![]()

What i'm saying is that i like to be invested and into the story and its hard to do that when im angry from it being too hard

angry? why? on what? on the game? really?
maybe you should be angry on yourself instead? people tend to blame something or someone but not themselfs when they face some failures or difficulties.
have faith however, this game is being made on the west, with EA as publisher. you can't expect anything which can be considered as a challenge or difficulty.
