Can Bioware please be more careful with their promotional material? These mistakes need to stop.

I don't really see why Bioware would change there promotional material, or there approach to it

I mean yeah... there are some mistakes here.. but is there actually anyone at all.. who would cancel a pre-order.. or not buy the game entirely, just because of these errors?

I am very doubtful.. what this does is show the character, basically what she's about.. and succeeds at promoting the game which is its intention

I'd much rather have it it's a breath of fresh air in comparison to modern marketing where you have to assume things are 50x worse then what they look.

That is a really dickish thing to say. How about I come to your work and say each time you make a mistake or oversight I say your lazy and you're not doing your job properly.

This is the most unbelievable thing I've seen a gamer say on the BSN.

At least we have quivers this time. That is something to at least be thankful for.

Plus the fact if you really wanted to be nitpicky you might point out that quivers were generally worn on the belt, not on the back (at least in Europe) and DA gets a lot of it's theme/styles from Europe, so it'd be more fitting to have the quivers on the belts and not the backs.

The placement of the string does look weird. I would say perhaps she was meant to simply be holding the bow but that wouldn't explain why she has an arrow nocked on it, so it just looks weird and out of place.

We always had quivers. They weren't present only in the DA2 demo, but they were in the full game.

Right, the point of this picture is more about conveying the art, rather than conveying accuracy. I'm not saying you're wrong, only that artists do have a tendency of fudging details for aesthetic purposes and it looks like that is what happened with this image.

Well, I understand your point OP, but why so angry sounding?

Granted there are glitches and mistakes in the promotionnal art. So what? There will always be glitches, in promo, and ingame, especially for a large game like this.

As long as these mistakes don't stop us from enjoying the game, that's ok for me.

If I sent publicity material with mistakes like that out, I damn well would expect you to criticise me for it.

This is the most unbelievable thing I've seen a gamer say on the BSN.

What the fact that I prefer marketing to be honest? Or the fact that I don't appreciate people calling other people lazy especially when it's quite obvious that they aren't?

If to be a gamer you mean to swallow modern marketing tripe or call devs lazy good for nothings. Then I'm proud to NOT be a gamer.

I couldn't care less about this.

I noticed it, chuckled, then went back to being hyped for the game. Stuff like this doesn't bother me. I also don't see what caring about promotional material has to do with being a gamer, but okay,

Coin side...heads:

1. I agree, the bow string is unnerving...wrong side of arm.

2. the quiver should show the foot of it, to accurately represent the length of the arrows.

3. the bow grip, as displayed, wouldn't, couldn't, shouldn't nock an arrow to shoot accurately.

Coin side....tails:

1. it's art, not a photo.

2. it's an ELF posing.....elves don't exist.

3. Fantasy, fantasy, fantasy.

Which ever camp you back......it's all good...............................................................................................or not, hehehehe!!!!!!

Oh well. My eyes probably won't be exposed to this disgustingly grave realism omission anyway because in my game her unnaturally positioned hands and quiver will most likely be obscured by the realistic magical flames emanating from her gear.

FFS, what an absolutely trivial thing to make a complaint thread about.

I'm pretty sure everyone has more important things to do, things that effect the actual game.

Its a blooper, really. It won't harm the final product at all. That being said its ok for the OP to point out a blooper too. Its not a personal attack on fans of the Dragon Age franchise.

Sadly a lot of people here see it as an attack, and that I'm being OH SO ANGRY about it, and that I'm cancelling my preorder grrr!

I welcome people who disagree with me. Wish they could be more level headed about it though.

Seriously, the amount of defense on behalf of Bioware in this thread is bordering on the ridiculous. Bioware is a company, not a collection of delicate little flowers, I'm pretty sure they can survive having a glaring mistake in their promotional matierial pointed out to them by their fans. And let's be honest here, this is a glaring mistake. Anyone who knows anything about bows knows how to nock and draw the arrow, especially if they've gone to the extent of giving Sera proper archery protection equipment like the glove and forearm protector. Is it a serious issue? Far from it. Is it glaring? Yes, absolutely. And it's a mistake that should not happen in a project that is as big as DAI supposedly is.

It not the developers that are to blame, it's the marketing department. And they quite simply haven't done their job properly in letting such errors be released in official promotional material. And if someone hasn't done their job properly, thay should be criticised.

but then it wont look as good

art>realism

They could keep this pose and make her left-handed.

Then even the bowstring would be right.

I find it curious how many posters in here think he is saying the sky is falling simply because he is having a minor complaint, a valid one at that.

Just moving the string under her arm seems like such a simple thing to fix, especially considering the bow is already positioned in a way that supports it

Am I reading this right?

Somebody points out a couple of glaring errors in DAI's promotional material, and has the unmitigated GALL to suggest that it would be better if the marketing department took greater care to put out images that didn't have glaring errors? OUTRAGEOUS.

The backlash this person received was obviously justified - cries of "PRE-ORDER CANCELLED!" as though OP suggested it was a game-breaking issue are not only hilarious but make very reasonable points! People saying that they simply don't care about errors in promotional work need to step up their games though - take a leaf out of the book of the poster who claims they actually PREFER promotional work to be riddled with errors, because it's refreshing and innovative and honest to the consumer! Yeah! Now that's how to overreact to the slightest criticism with Instinctive Defense levelled up to the maximum.

Anyway OP, your suggestion that a company takes more care to avoid silly mistakes in materials that are designed to show off the product in a good light is completely invalid. I would actually prefer they release all promotional artwork as a series of stick figures drawn in MS Paint, because I am a TRUE FAN and I do not care about Basic Marketing Principles and the game will look good anyway.

I'm grateful what the OP pointed out is not something that would ever bother me. I can't imagine being so dramatic over something so minor. I think the OP needs to step back and get a little perspective. I mean, at least there *is* a bowstring to get your knickers in a twist over. ;)

Eh, I don't think a negative impression is what Bioware is shooting for. The quiver can be forgiven, but the way she's holding the bow is downright laughable.

Yeah I did notice it, twas a pity but looking at other images of characters released it seems to be across the board. These mistakes should be fixed before they release the finished piece of course but what are you gonna do *shrugs*

@Mathias:  You've already conceded that it would not change your pre-order; so I wonder as to the point of the post at all?

Why illuminate this artistic error at all?  Are you an artist?  Are you a game designer?  If it's truly to help Bioware, why post it to the consumer?

What is the point of the "concerned consumer" about this particular topic?

I would imagine that this has nothing, at all, to do with the game designers.  Instead, I imagine a commissioned artist did the work and the advertising department decided when it (all of them) were ready to be released to the public.

Perhaps you're an advertising agent?

If you're simply a consumer looking to point out a potential "blooper" in EA/Bioware's advertising campaign - kudos.

But again, you said it doesn't change anything for you.  So ultimately you're saying: "I saw something, and it's value is ultimately "0".

NOTE:  I didn't honestly read most of the thread.  So perhaps you illuminated this elsewhere.
