So I watched this video and I was wondering if anybody knew of any other common or slightly tricky questions such as those?

I'll list some of the questions for anyone who doesn't want to watch the video. But it is hilarious:

- What's heavier: A pound of cotton or a pound of stone?

- How many terms did Benjamin Franklin serve as the president?

- Thirteen puppies, all but eight died. How many are left?

- Your mom had four kids: North, South, and East. What was the name of the last kid?

- You're running in a race and you passed the person in 2nd place. What place are you now in?

I've got fifteen bucks in two bills in my hands. One of them is not a fiver. How does it work?

So you have two tens then.

That would be twenty bucks, not fifteen.

So a beautiful Elven woman walks into a pub with a Qunari, a human Mage and  Dwarf. The barmaid asks the Elf, what is the Qunari for? The Elf says, "When I'm feeling a bit horny or course." The barmaid then asks how about the Mage? The Elf replies, "Oh, he's just great with that staff of his." Looking at the Dwarf the barmaid asks, what is he for? The Elf smiles and replies.....

My answer was going to be "When I need somewhere to set my beer" but your answer is good too. :D :P B)

I know. I was throwing out a guess. Should I assume you made $15 out of change then? Those aren't "bills" right?

You're not really supposed to answer the questions. I mean, the answers are in the video.

Nope. All I got is two bills totalling exactly fifteen bucks. And one of them is not a fiver.

It's really easy, you just have to think sideways. When you get it, you will groan and exclaim "Why didn't I think of this sooner?!".

The bills aren't money! They're bills you have to pay!

A tip: think literally. Then think laterally.

If that doesn't help, I can tell you how it's solved. And you WILL groan on how easy the solution was B)

You've got a $10 bill and a $5 bill; "One of them isn't a fiver" =/= "Neither of them are." That's my guess, anyways.

Nailed it.

Yay!

I've got a couple common knowledge questions of my own, but they don't work online at all, because you have to do it in conversation and quite fast, but it might be fun to do these on your friends some time. Both involve asking someone a few questions and telling them to answer without hesitation.

For instance, you ask someone a bunch of simple mathematical questions, the answer to each of which is "ten" (i.e. "What's 9+1?" "What's 8+2?" and so on). Then you ask, "What is an aluminum can made out of?"

Another, equally silly one: Ask your friend a couple of questions, the answer to each of which is "white" (i.e. "What's the color of snow?", etc.). Then ask them, "What do cows drink?"

And for anyone wondering, yes I have fallen for both of these, because I'm an idiot. :)

This looks like a fun thread, so I don't want to stick my oar in here and bring things to a halt.

However:

"Which is heavier: a pound of cotton or a pound of stone?"

There was a variation of this question, more directly based on the story about Isaac Newton, which was a question on the B.C. Canada General Equivalency Diploma test. It was a multiple choice question. The question was:

"If you drop a pound of feathers and a pound of rock off a balcony, which would land first?"

What happened was, over fifteen years ago,  I was working in an office on an Indian reserve, and a guy who had been hired by the gov't as a tutor for the young adults, walked in and said something like "Wow, these kids don't even know that if you drop a ... both would land at the same time". I had to point out that the question was impossible to answer as given and that the intuitive answer, or the answer based on common experience, would be the pound of rock, because of the unstated factor of air and wind resistance. The guy just grinned and moved away. That's a real iIdiot.

Reminds me of the time our biology teacher asked us how many bones where in the ear after she explained the functionality of it, you know, to test if pupils actually listened, the usual procedure.

Picked me and I said "none" with a smug grin. Dear lord did she explode in my face, even after I pointed out that technically, there are no bones, they are just mistakingly called earbones. She was decidedly not happy I played the semantics there and decided I had been dozing off instead of listening.

And because I'm a vindictive jerkass, when she asked the same question in our formal exam for that semester, I again said (well, wrote down more like) "none". She did not award me points.

Still aced the exam with a comfortable A (really the only points I didn't have were the ones from that question and the odd one where I hadn't perfectly nailed every aspect of two or three other questions) and never saw that old hag again as she transferred to another school.

Good times. I miss school.
